Honestly I'm glad GF is finally starting to figure out how to use basic rendering techniques like normal and specular maps. Took them 3 gens to learn basic 3D technology that's been industry standard for over a decade now but hey... Maybe they will finally get the hang of making a proper 3D game after the next 3 gens, kek.
This half baked attempt at pseudorealism works on like... 5% of the Pokémon, and makes the other 95% look worse, as well as the trainers that occupy the world. Pokemon should always be striving to resemble anime, not the real world.

Don't quote me, but I think I saw GF had a job posting up that was asking for unreal engine developers. Here's hoping they realize they have to use a decent engine to do anything good.
Yeah for their spin-off games. They put more effort into those than the mainline ones
Gamefreak doesn't do spin offs though. They always get outsourced.
Combination of GameFreak's amateurishness and Nintendo's greed in making consoles that are 10 years behind
A bunch of first party Switch games use Unreal. GameFreak has no excuse.

Face it you were into Pokemons because the sprites were good-looking. Sure, Pokemon as a franchise has never have AAA graphics but at least it was charming in its own way
It would be better if they made their engine with all the old Pokémon preprogrammed in once per console.
