No, Japan actually likes Kalos to some extent. The region that would be considered less popular by western standards would probably be Hoenn which is often considered to the best here, while it's typically ranked in the middle in Japan. Alola is still hated of course, and in this poll it didn't even manage to get on it at all.

That and Gen 3 remakes were released two years ago and had a similar tropical feel to Gen 7 games.
Two pokemon games set in tropical locations being released so close to each other might have been too much for japanese players.

There's a lot of problems with Gen 7 as a whole, but Japan doesn't have copers like here jacking off about the idea of it because some poketubers overhyped it prior to release. The only games that truly deserve hate are SWSH.

I think one of the reason i can't completely hate SWSH despite those games being awful is that when i played it, i had absolutely zero hype and zero expectations.

Mostly because people thought it would be a return to form from the shit Gen 7 started, not the sequel of it.
Dexcut is the proof that unlike other JRPG fans, pokemon fans are simply way too attached to these creatures.

To be fair, SMT, Digimon, YW, DQM and just about all of the other monster tamers never had all the monsters in one game. Meanwhile pokemon was doing it for a solid 20 years until gen 8.

I feel like that was a mistake they made and then tried to fix it way too late into the franchise's lifespan.
Can you imagine a Digimon game with pre-Gen 8 Pokemon's all creatures accessible in one game mentalilty? good luck trying to fit around 1,400 digimon into one 60-90 GB game.
