Work on the Chilchack mod is in progress, but we're still in the early stages. The Marcille mod has been put on hold again because it refuses to work. Kot mod is up and running, might get more updates down the line. The Laios mod is still jank as frick and will be getting a revamp and art update somewhere down the line.

If you want to buy it you can't avoid giving Beamdog money, but on GOG you also get the original versions of the games. Apart from the added content Beamdog's "enhanced" editions also have uglier UIs, the graphics have scaling issues, there's forced filtering, and generally a complete lack of options to control any of it, making it inferior to the original+mods even from a technical standpoint.
Getting it fully modded is a bit convoluted, but I recommend following Part 1 of this guide and skipping all the optional steps: https://www.gog.com/forum/baldurs_gate_series/baldurs_gate_2_essential_mods/page1
