Why don't video game devs integrate unlimited music streaming in video games instead of relying on a finite set of music?

limp bizkit in elden ring
>dies ingame
>hear Fred Durst yell "GET THE FRICK UP"
would be ludo
>Turn down music volume
>Open spotify
I don't want to play a really great, fitting song during battle only for it shuffle at the end and play some mumble rap shit.
>playing against a difficult boss, fully immersed
>"want a break from the ads" comes on
>stands up and says MCDONALDS
>game resumes
premium is only 11 bucks
how poor are you
All entertainment should be free
if artists can't profit from their work they won't bother making it.
as long as we live in a market based economy entertainment can never be free.
I do think copyrights should be massively reduced. the lifetime of the author + an additional 80 years after they're dead is just ridiculous. they should expire after 20 years in my opinion.
>if artists can't profit from their work they won't bother making it.
They might if we threatened to kill them
It doesn't have to be free for everyone, just me
and destroy my ARTISTIC VISION??
is it just me or did that big spotify update a while ago completely frick the app?
it used to be perfect but now it lags and loads so slow
>you could just
>NO I CANT
lmao, consolecucks
What's stopping you from just running this piece of crap in the background while playing?
Are you fricking moronic?
>mfw i'm looking for specific game/anime OST and all i get is samuel kim's garbage ass """epic version""" remasters
>it's almost always worse and tries to go too ''hard'' that ironically ruins the mood of the song
Wouldn't that mean the player would have to pay for it just to have music in the game?
>relying on external services for your art
>integrate spotify
>spotify dies x years later
>game sucks
You are a fricking moron, basically. It's fine for games where you're meant to customise things yourself, though. Things like sprays or midis or even yes, integration, but these are multiplayer games or low scale games with official content that players can supplement.
>licence music
>game updates x years later
>removes music
Yeah, it's fricking stupid. Music will only be "removed" if the game is re-licensed. If it is there originally the original will/should have that content in perpetuity. Another reason remakes suck.
Why do you want to destroy video games even further?
They're already basically TV shows and now you want to integrate spotifty and remove the amazing music that games have as well and replace it with generic licensed rubbish?
What's wrong with you people?
Copyright dumbass. Doesn't matter if it's on a free streaming service, royalties still have to be paid.
then pay em, companies have infinite money
Even Rockstar doesn't want to pay for music licenses in perpetuity.
they will
There should be a minimum IQ test to be able to post on this board.
if they run out of money they can just say they have more and promise it to get what they want
t. RIAA
spotify has ads so no
Licensing
You're soooo out of touch, Fortnite does this
I just play youtube in the background.
>integrate unlimited music streaming
Epic does this by aislop integration
You should ask this about movies on Ganker too I'm sure you'd get just as good answers
>subscription services
lol
I have 500gb of music on my hard drives, total cost: $0
It costs you money to use the electricity to access that data on your hard drive
>spotify keeps bugging me to buy winter tires
>I don't
MUH COPYRIGHT MUH COURT MUH LITIGATION NO FUN ALLOWED
which is fine but cringe and annoying, no wonder modern art and media is trash
one of the forza games had a radio station linked to your microsoft music account
I think Euro Truck Simulator 2 has something like that.
Dogshit thread but you're right, how do all the real time radio stations just work, did they each simply agree to be in the game? Good exposure and more listeners I guess.
I highly doubt that. You're just connecting to the radio stream through the game instead of your browser or music player. You can add more radio stations to the game too if you have their direct stream link. I remember putting r-a-d.io in the game that way years ago.
licensing nonsense / you can already turn the music down and spotify / winamp up
licensing.
spotifiy works by gathering money via add revenue or premium subscriptions and thein paying rightsholders according to how much their music was played.
this business model would not work in games becasue it would either warrant a subscription or perpetual licenses.
