Personally not too sure but I can at least say it's considered unsupported. You shpuod still be able to get it to run and set up custom control binds but it'll definitely take a little more effort than just native support.
I think my select button might be fricked. can someone check if its supposed to turn blue when you press it in the "test device inputs" section of the controller menu. Doesnt seem to be registering and i feel like its screwing with my dolphin emulation controls.
I have one but I barely use it because I don't pirate games and I don't get into situations where I wouldn't just use my computer. I suppose i could take it to work but we've been hiring a ton of boat people so I don't trust my co-workers not to steal it.
I've got no use case for it. I've got a more powerful laptop I can take places with me. Does anyone actually use Steam Deck to game on the go, like on a bus or something? I struggle to believe it.
Deck just came in boys (it smells weird and fedex didn't steal it).
What are some good accessories for it? The bare screen makes me kinda nervous. Also do I have to use their charger?
I agree with this anon. I actually do use my Deck charger to charge both my Deck and my phone on trips. Plus the Deck case neatly stores the charger under the strap on the back so it's technically not taking up any additional space in your storage method.

don't listen to these guys. the deck charger specifically does one power mode for the deck. if I plug my phone into it it only slow charges because my phone uses 9v/20w
Yeah I didn't quite understand it either. If someone wants a budget screen they may as well just stick with their default one. If someone is going to crack open their deck and install a new screen why wouldn't they make it more premium and actually a huge improvement? Hopefully DeckHD is just their entry level low budget option and there's plans for premium versions.
I just learned about this and i don't get it at all. A resolution bump at that size seems like it'd barely matter but I guess the colors might improve a bit. My only real complaint about the original screen is its brightness, which this replacement doesn't improve at all.
The color accuracy is better for sure on it but I don't even want the resolution increase. Probably barely noticeable on a 7 inch screen and it will only make my games run worse. I wouldn't mind just a Steam Deck native resolution OLED with good color accuracy and brightness. That's all I ask for.
It's fine on its own. The screen is plenty resistant. Even if you're tossing it around and bringing it unprotected in your bags, it'll be years before you've fricked up the screen enough to matter. You child will be considering the next iteration by then.
If you got the base version you might consider adding an SSD.
The Ally has a premium screen and runs modern games much better. That said it's a miserable experience getting it up and running that took hours of Windows updates plus ASUS updates. That said navigating Windows on it has honestly been much better than I expected with the touch interface and the ASUS software that allows you to change inputs or TDP modes or FPS caps actually works which is something I didn't expect. When this thing is plugged in and it can run at a 30w TDP it's actually pretty insane to see PS4 games running at 1080P 60 FPS.
The Deck is much easier to setup and use though. Buy it, turn it on, log into Steam after it's done its initial boot and start downloading games. It's battery lasts longer and I find it more ergonomic to hold plus the trackpads are really helpful when you want to play actual older PC games. Also Emudeck makes emulation a piece of a cake.
If I'm gonna be at home and want to play something relatively modern and hook it up to power, I'll grab the Ally but if I want to play something quick or an old PC game in bed I'll grab my Deck. And if I'm gonna travel and I'm not sure there's going to be power nearby definitely Deck and play older GBA or PS1 games at a low TDP
Thanks for the input. Probably will just stick with my Deck and PC for now then. Ally sounds a little more niche overall but the performance does sound good.
Yeah I'd just wait honestly. It's a cool device but the performance upgrades aren't like 3x better than the Deck or anything. I just had money to burn and it was a spur of a moment thing
how the frick are you supposed to back up non steam game save files? All the saves are in randomly named compatdata folders that are going to change name once I swap out the internal drive.
How the FRICK do I get F zero GX to play without crashing!! I've tried powertools and cyroutilities but when me and ai are zooming fast on master difficulty I get crashes. It's super frustrating cause it's not consistent, sometimes it'll wait to crash when I'm half way or on the last course of a GP.
Is there like a "first shit you do with your deck" general guide somewhere? I'm picking one up on Saturday but no idea what I want to do first.
Install a different OS?
Any body modifications I should be doing like new analog sticks or a case?
Decent emulation front end that is recommended?
>Install a different OS?
Why? The Deck's greatest strength is being a PC that's as accessible as a console and that's only because Valve has total control over the OS
>Any body modifications I should be doing like new analog sticks or a case?
There's a lot of people who likes cases and some have swapped out the analog sticks with Hall sensor that won't drift
>emulation
Google Emudeck and it'll do everything for you. You just need to supply the bios and ROMs
And if you got the 64 GB model think about replacing the internal with a bigger SSD even if you plan to use an SD card. The internal will quickly get filled up by shader caches otherwise
Yeah I already have a 1 tb mini nvme on my desk along with a 512 gb sd card.
Guess I'll frick with the stock OS and look up how much of a pain installing new analog sticks would be.

Linux "just works" for a lot of games and actually makes some older titles like GTA IV and Bioshock run better because of Vulcan. Just google whatever game you're thinking of playing + "protondb" and see if it'll have any issues. The only titles that usually don't work on Deck are multiplayer ones because of anti-cheat
Good thing I haven't played a multiplayer game in over 8 years or something outside couch co-op with the gf. Already have a bunch of emulation folders for LaunchBox on my PC so curious how much I can just drag and drop in EmuDeck
Why get Deck 2 when Deck 3 will be better? But seriously though I do understand the sentiment if the current hardware doesn't serve your needs or the screen issues are a roadblock for you. Steam Deck 2 will likely be a better launch product than the original. I do love my Steam Deck and will probably upgrade to the next one.
>Lying in bed or on the couch while something else is playing on your TV or PC?
why not do whatever i'm doing with the deck on pc as it seems whatever is on the pc is so boring i need something to distract me from it, listen i too bought an xbox one, just admit it's useless accept the buyers remorse and move on with your life
I was hesitant about trying it out because I heard they changed the SD card mounting path which would frick up all my roms and non steam games but I also heard they symlinked the new path to the old one or something like that? Did it just werk for you?
frick my gf please
I do
Your kind do not belong here, leave.
Gamers? Makes sense knowing modern Ganker.
give it back
How does company of heroes 1 and 2 play it on?
Personally not too sure but I can at least say it's considered unsupported. You shpuod still be able to get it to run and set up custom control binds but it'll definitely take a little more effort than just native support.
Probably fine for kb+mouse but may need some tweaking.

Just bought a deck but I'm not black, did I frick up?
>bought
no
I have one, been playing Nuclear Thorne on it all day. That game's a bliss now that it's playable at 60fps.
Bbc bros?

C-C-C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER
(I'm white)
'eck on 'ick?
chillin with my deck out
Post tummy
>autistic anime or moon rune t shirt
Yeah we can tell you’re white Timmy
You don't fool me, pedro.
>not fat
>no 'ick on 'eck
bwos...
just post 'ick on 'eck
give it back tyrone
But I do have one.
I have no interest in handhelds, but I appreciate the 'eck for fighting the M$ monopoly.
I have one but I barely use it because I don't pirate games and I don't get into situations where I wouldn't just use my computer. I suppose i could take it to work but we've been hiring a ton of boat people so I don't trust my co-workers not to steal it.
Finally, a PC with all the drawbacks of a console.
Waiting for 1.5 refresh
It is simply too big.
Mine got stolen and those are the exact same games I had on it
no 'ick to put on 'em 🙁
>doesnt own the rog ally
Ick on ally just doesn’t have the same ring to it
I've got no use case for it. I've got a more powerful laptop I can take places with me. Does anyone actually use Steam Deck to game on the go, like on a bus or something? I struggle to believe it.

Deckmate
DeckHD
Any dock
Hall Effect analog stick replacements
What about the charger, can I just use my phone charger with it?
I'm planning on bringing it with me on trips, so one less charger would be nice.
no, the deck charger is 30W and your phone charger is most likely not 30W or more, you're better off using your deck charger for your phone instead
I agree with this anon. I actually do use my Deck charger to charge both my Deck and my phone on trips. Plus the Deck case neatly stores the charger under the strap on the back so it's technically not taking up any additional space in your storage method.

AoE2? How? I know that you can't use the nice Xbox controls on the Steam version, right?

I have an 'eck and a 'og ally
What is your experience with both devices? Which one do you find you use more and what are some of your favorite features of both?

Because you stole it, please give it back.
cute
>2 hour battery life.
Depends what you play and how willing you are to mess with settings
Which games should i try on the deck? I have only played slay the spire, brotato, vampire survivors
Probably a fighting game.
I hate fighting games
Civ V
Sounds interesting
Fallout New Vegas
Never played any Fallout, should i try itj with graphic mods?

I'm sure people have made tons of videos on youtube with clickbait titles like "JUST GOT A DECK? HERE'S THE FIRST THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW!"
I do and I enjoyed it, then my fricking SD card died on me. Is it possible to recover my PCSX2 save, or is it a lost cause?
Save is rip. There are a lot of cloud save methods on various emulation forums/reddit to prevent that from getting you in the future.
im waiting for deck 2

Ok
'ig on 'eck
I do, but I stream games from my pc to it since it’s so underpowered. I pretty much only use it docked to my TV
Honestly shocked with how light this thing is. Every picture I looked at implied it would be chunky and awkward, it feels lighter than my phone.
Ick on eck
>buying a Deck when the Lenovo Legion Go is about to come out
I just need something to play indies, emulate, and read pdfs with. Not some $800 overkill machine, thats why I have my desktop.
i cant think of a single reason i would need one
Emulation
It's the only reason I see to get one
I don't ride the bus.
I have a pc,do you have a PC OP?
You can have a PC and still play on handhelds
Lying in bed or on the couch while something else is playing on your TV or PC? Playing in the bathroom? Playing while you post on Ganker?
yes i can , i still dont like handhelds
When do you make time to touch grass?
>Lying in bed or on the couch while something else is playing on your TV or PC?
why not do whatever i'm doing with the deck on pc as it seems whatever is on the pc is so boring i need something to distract me from it, listen i too bought an xbox one, just admit it's useless accept the buyers remorse and move on with your life
because playing on tiny screens is shit
i play my miyoo mini plus way more
Should I play Max Payne 1 and 2 through emulation on PCSX2 or try and get the controls to work on the native PC port?
I own this bad boy instead. PS3 emulation is godly on this.
SteamOS 3.5 preview is pretty fricking good. Sucks about the significantly increased load times in some games.
I was hesitant about trying it out because I heard they changed the SD card mounting path which would frick up all my roms and non steam games but I also heard they symlinked the new path to the old one or something like that? Did it just werk for you?
I didn't run into those issues, Everything worked fine.
you gays need some salad
I bought one because of the ick on eck poster.
Best handheld for up to xbox/ps2/gamecube era?
All if not most of the stuff brought up in this thread honestly.
Deck can do all of that no problem.
Deck will work for PS2 and Gamecube not sure about Xbox though
I sold mine and got an Ally. I'm happier with the Ally.
How?
