>tfw when want a slide keyboard and touch pads
Closest I can get is either a gpd win4 with its optical mouse or a gpd win min or gpd win max with it's touchpad in the middle.
who is the target audience for thi?
I lost all interest when I heard the battery life is 10 hours at the most
I'll consider it when 10 hours is the low estimate
the deck's power consumption to performance is literally unmatched. It is genuinely impressive how well it competes when power starved even against newer APUs
there's nothing trash about it, you tech illiterate Black person
>technology that does not exist
the technology exists it is a matter of how expensive it is to produce it and whether or not it can functionally be applied to handhelds. there are batteries out there that have extremely impressice performance.
too bulky and not practical for portability. if I have to Carry around some frickass case for it what's the point? and how often are you really gonna be in a public space and want to play a full triple A experience?
we should go back to dedicated handheld
thats why I love the vita, fits in the pocket and has games designed with portability in mind
1. Already have a gaming PC.
2. Too busy doing at-home work.
3. It's too big.
4. I already have a Chinkboy, so I don't really need it for emulation.
5. That heating problem really bugs me as a techie.
6. I don't like expensive portable things because I'm always afraid of it getting stolen or dropped.
I've never used Linux in my life but am really considering saving for an OLED. as someone who plans on using it almost solely for emulation how do most emulators work on it and will Linux filter me in that pursuit?
There’s a program called EmuDeck that just lets you drop roms into folders it pre-configures then you press a button and they get added to your steam library like normal games and you just launch them like any Steam game with artwork and everything
Are you the kind of autist who will get mad at retroarch?
If no, all you gotta do is download retroarch and the cores for the games you have, maybe get standalones for stuff like gamecube and ps2, not sure how up to date the dolphin libretro core is.
Other than that it just werkz.
You can also download something like Emudeck to put shortcuts to directly launch games via emulators in your steam library, so you don't even have to interact with configuration.
There is a learning curve for the software but it's not too bad. Probably the biggest issue for me was the difference in file system where the os hides most folders automatically and also has different paths than windows. After using it for about 8 months the decks os singlehandedly convinced me that windows days are numbered. If valve were to release a desktop os I would completely drop windows.
>Is the dock necessary to buy
Do you want to connect it to your tv/monitor? Plug in an external harddrive? >any other accessories I should get in the order?
Well the Steam controller is unfortunately dead, but if you're getting the dock to play it on a tv, you might want a separate controller.
>Is the dock necessary
do you not have a PC? do you want to use it as a shitbox to play video games at a friends house? if the answer to both of these questions is no then the answer is it's useless
I have a Switch for portable gaming, and I have a gaming laptop for less portable gaming, and I have a desktop for least portable gaming. A Deck is redundant.
Because these days portability is overrated as frick. People really don’t take their portable consoles out and about, portability is just playing in your bed for most people. And if I’m gonna be playing something while I’m in bed it’s just gonna be Bloons TD 6 or I’ll watch videos. If I want to play anything else I’m more than capable of taking my lazy ass out of bed to play whatever on my computer.
I already have a good PC at home and a comparable spec'd laptop with an Xbox controller for when I'm out
I don't really see a use for it outside maybe playing on my side while in bed or while on the shitter. I don't commute via public transit either if I wanted to be the ">vidya in public" guy
I've been setting up emulation on my deck. Do you guys prefer playing games in the original aspect ratio or making them fill the screen? Also >still can't use chd files with PPSSPP through emudeck
Should I sell my hackable switch to buy a deck?
Or should I keep my switch?
On one hand, free switch gaems.
On the other hand, emulation and a bigger, more varied library.
i'm just theorizing here but I think the Steam Deck will get more support over the months/years and the switch will basically become outdated faster than the OLED will.
I live in a neighborhood that's unfortunately next to a notorious street for homeless people. My neighborhood has decent people but it's like we live next to a homeless camp. Anyways, does Steam offer a signature required option at checkout? I would hate for it to get stolen by some bum off my porch.
Aren't Australian customs generally a nightmare to deal with and that's a pretty significant reason Robin Walker literally couldn't tolerate it and moved out?
I think it's very interesting and strange that they would release a "steam deck 2" with such minor updates. I almost bought the LCD version during the summer sale and I would feel like shit right now if I missed out on the new OLED version. The next gen won't come out for years after this.
That's the area for the NVMe. A heatsink deigned for it will circumvent this, which is what most will do since they also wanna swap out the sticks.
Point is valid for those that just wanna use a deck off the jump.
This is probably their start of eliminating the cheaper LCD model. Once they run out of that stock, they'll only sell the OLED for better consumer reviews as they prepare for Steam Deck 2.
I had an old smartphone laying around that I did want to keep for emotional reasons and found a telescopic controller for cheap that I could use in it, so now I have a sort of DIY handheld that does up to PSP, which is all I really need right now. I'm quite happy with it, though the Deck is sweet, it makes me happy that my device reminds me of it with the black color and orange analog base too.
realistically i dont travel enough to warrant buying one to game when im outside, and bringing it to the workplace to play on break would make things awkward in front of coworkers
I understand the coworker part. I work daily in my vehicle alone so my breaks are just me in a random parking lot where I can enjoy it alone in silence.
I do plan on getting one soon. The only thing that irritates me is some older games being 'unplayable' on it. Doesn't seem get some interns to bring everything up to decent capability.
Usually you can just assign Proton experimental, or a specific version of Proton or Proton GE to get stuff running just fine. The only single game I've run into where that doesn't work at all is Legend of Mana HD, the game is just gunna crash after a few minutes anyways. You might have to tweak some games, but a lot more work better than you'd think.
Because I already have an lcd deck.
It doesn't have a slide-out keyboard
you want this one then
>too big to use thumbs
>too small to use like a regular keyboard
what's the point
I can think of a lot of reasons
it has a software one
>tfw when want a slide keyboard and touch pads
Closest I can get is either a gpd win4 with its optical mouse or a gpd win min or gpd win max with it's touchpad in the middle.
I do
----
Sent from my Steam Deck
LCD deck owner already. It'll take a year before OLED decks filter down to my country. Might as well just wait for Deck 2 at that point.
I had an lcd one, but Linux and the loud fan turned me off to it. I have an Ally now and I prefer it despite it's faults.
i don't leave home so i don't need it
I have a laptop
I have a laptop to travel with and this is barely any more portable than that.
My bed is a few feet away from my computer desk, I can’t justify it.
'ove 't
who is the target audience for thi?
I lost all interest when I heard the battery life is 10 hours at the most
I'll consider it when 10 hours is the low estimate
People who don't expect to play 10 hours straight without any kind of break lmao
yes I know, Steam Deck gays are happy to play for 2 hours before having to charge, which is why they bought it
>you are asking for technology that does not exist
yes and? I'm not paying for trash products just because it's the only option
kys moron
the deck's power consumption to performance is literally unmatched. It is genuinely impressive how well it competes when power starved even against newer APUs
there's nothing trash about it, you tech illiterate Black person
>at least 10 hours
>x86 architecture
>can play full fledged modern PC games
you are asking for technology that does not exist
>technology that does not exist
the technology exists it is a matter of how expensive it is to produce it and whether or not it can functionally be applied to handhelds. there are batteries out there that have extremely impressice performance.
>who is the target audience
The japs.
I own a PC
BECAUSE IT COSTS 1105$ IN NORWAY
lmao why is that?
So the government can pay for the airfare to ship muslims and africans to live there.
i don't play video games outside of my house and i don't see a reason to use a handheld when i could just use my pc instead
I love her
too bulky and not practical for portability. if I have to Carry around some frickass case for it what's the point? and how often are you really gonna be in a public space and want to play a full triple A experience?

Enjoy destroying the thumbsticks
1. Already have a gaming PC.
2. Too busy doing at-home work.

>5. That heating problem really bugs me as a techie.
What heating problem are you talking about?
Who was this video made to appeal to?
all the Steam Deck buyers, they are into this sort of thing as evidenced by their purchase of a steam deck
I own a superior 7840U device.
The deck reminds me of my dad's old sega saturn handheld thingy. Was just as huge.
>put in a more powerful cpu
>power limit it rendering it pointless
I do, THOUGH
Put my 'ick on my 'eck
I love this fat bastard so much I can't even put it into words I want him desperately
chuds lost
Chuds won hoe.
Owned an LCD Deck and ended up selling it. Too bulky and Linux is aids when you want to get more out of the deck than just playing your steam library.
Is there an all encompassing video that explains it on youtube for the Steam deck?
It is extremely easy even without a guide. KDE is babymode for wingays and emudeck sets up literally everything for you.
Are you the kind of autist who will get mad at retroarch?
If no, all you gotta do is download retroarch and the cores for the games you have, maybe get standalones for stuff like gamecube and ps2, not sure how up to date the dolphin libretro core is.

Because i'm being israeli and I was expecting it to go on sale during the winter holiday but it most likely won't. I'll probably just buy it already.
Is the dock necessary to buy and any other accessories I should get in the order?
>Is the dock necessary to buy
Do you want to connect it to your tv/monitor? Plug in an external harddrive?
>any other accessories I should get in the order?
Well the Steam controller is unfortunately dead, but if you're getting the dock to play it on a tv, you might want a separate controller.
Ok yea I can see myself connecting it to a monitor at times. What controller would you recommend for it? just curious.
Personally I prefer Dualsense/Dualshock 4 for Gyro.
I'd moreso recommend Dualsense because it has USB-C.
Both Xbox and Switch Pro have USB C.
Specifically out of DualShock 4 or Dualsense, I'd recommend Dualsense since it has USB-C whereas the Dualshock 4 doesn't.
Also Xbox has no Gyro.
>Is the dock necessary
do you not have a PC? do you want to use it as a shitbox to play video games at a friends house? if the answer to both of these questions is no then the answer is it's useless
>any other accessories
an sd card
Oh yeah, you might want an SD Card depending on what size hard drive you get.
Keep in mind it needs to be micro.
I have a Switch for portable gaming, and I have a gaming laptop for less portable gaming, and I have a desktop for least portable gaming. A Deck is redundant.
More like a deck can easily replace all of those
Not really
No reason to
I'd rather have a normal PC so I can play vr porn and run stable diffusion.
Because these days portability is overrated as frick. People really don’t take their portable consoles out and about, portability is just playing in your bed for most people. And if I’m gonna be playing something while I’m in bed it’s just gonna be Bloons TD 6 or I’ll watch videos. I do, but not that one. Don't like that orange.
Valve should make it more tantalizing. Like throw in some verified games for free and it could be a good christmas gift.
If they had more games that specifically work on Steam I could see them doing a bundle.
They could really do with a new Orange Box.
most pc games are free
Why WOULD I own one?
I already have a good PC at home and a comparable spec'd laptop with an Xbox controller for when I'm out
I don't really see a use for it outside maybe playing on my side while in bed or while on the shitter. I don't commute via public transit either if I wanted to be the ">vidya in public" guy
Because I have a launch model and don't have a reason to "upgrade".
I've been setting up emulation on my deck. Do you guys prefer playing games in the original aspect ratio or making them fill the screen? Also
>still can't use chd files with PPSSPP through emudeck
more like
>still can't use chd files with pcsx2
My PS2 games are chd and they work. It's only my PSP games that aren't being recognized.
big if true
emudeck wiki says they aren't supported, unless i'm thinking of m3u's for multidisc
Should I sell my hackable switch to buy a deck?
Or should I keep my switch?
On one hand, free switch gaems.
On the other hand, emulation and a bigger, more varied library.
only point to own a deck is to emulate switch games and it can't even do that well
just modchip a switch OLED and never look back
Enjoy the portbegging sister!
every game worth playing is on switch
enjoy never playing bayonetta 3 at native frame rate
i'm just theorizing here but I think the Steam Deck will get more support over the months/years and the switch will basically become outdated faster than the OLED will.
But I own an lcd one.
>he got the limited edition
he bought a defective unit marketed as 'special' ohnononono
i own a switch already
>2 hour battery life
No thanks
more like 90 minutes kek
>90 minutes
No thanks
Do powerbanks not work on the steam deck?
no they brick decks
very unfortunate
Waiting for Switch 2.
I live in a neighborhood that's unfortunately next to a notorious street for homeless people. My neighborhood has decent people but it's like we live next to a homeless camp. Anyways, does Steam offer a signature required option at checkout? I would hate for it to get stolen by some bum off my porch.
Get a P.O. box or UPS address brother.
I just use my Vita and moonlight.
'ecks not 'fficially 'old in 'stralia
GabeN still hates us for forcing those refunds.
Yes i could buy from some third party or some shipping site. no im not going to.
>hates
There's no hate involved, it's just business. No merchant would want to sell to a place that made him lose money.
What refunds?
before europa was forcing corps to obey consumer friendly laws australia was at it.
>the end of the line
>Valve gets bioware'd
woohoo
Aren't Australian customs generally a nightmare to deal with and that's a pretty significant reason Robin Walker literally couldn't tolerate it and moved out?
deck sure fricking sucks shit huh
I think it's very interesting and strange that they would release a "steam deck 2" with such minor updates. I almost bought the LCD version during the summer sale and I would feel like shit right now if I missed out on the new OLED version. The next gen won't come out for years after this.
Forgot image of their heat differences.
I do.
homies really be eating chips oml
Because I own a gayman laptop.
I literally have no use for it.
I don't leave my computer and I have a squatting stool thing that makes my shits slide out at lightspeed, hence no need for toilet entertainments
I support it because it makes the Windows israeli monopoly seethe.
i have switch lite. I would be interested if they made steam home console
>steam home console
It's called a usb-c hub
I had an old smartphone laying around that I did want to keep for emotional reasons and found a telescopic controller for cheap that I could use in it, so now I have a sort of DIY handheld that does up to PSP, which is all I really need right now. I'm quite happy with it, though the Deck is sweet, it makes me happy that my device reminds me of it with the black color and orange analog base too.
I don't understand the appeal of not owning your games.

I understand the coworker part. I work daily in my vehicle alone so my breaks are just me in a random parking lot where I can enjoy it alone in silence.
Why would your coworkers care?
Andoid phone + switch style controller
better battery life than deck and also cheaper
I do, it's my favourite gaming device of all time. Bought the OLED on day 1 because I use it so much.
I do plan on getting one soon. The only thing that irritates me is some older games being 'unplayable' on it. Doesn't seem get some interns to bring everything up to decent capability.
*Doesn't seem hard to get interns to work on those unplayable games and bring them up to compatibility.

Bought the LCD on a sale some time ago and enjoy it. Didn't think they'd bother with an OLED screen until Deck 2 but here we are
