Multiplayer is insane because you are playing against seasoned vets who have been playing for over two decades. Even in non ranked they are extremely good. Best thing to do is play with some friends and use funny jank builds against each other.
UMS is also really fun. I have sunk tons of hours into Sunken D alone and it is more about group strategy.
I love micro jail maps and ones where you have to mine the minerals to "dig out" base locations. The original cat and Mouse game was so fun I'd play it at least once a week. You played as a Protoss Probe (worker) and fled from the "cat" an Ultralisk. You could build pylons, but had to steal things from the cat to win.
How would you steal things? Build a nexus? Is the ultralisk player able to build?

People solved things too fast, but actually worse than that the delivery of that information became really bad because the fricking companies would "balance" the game with massive overhauls and because information is no longer centralized on public forums everyone is fricking yelling at each other because of X streamer vs what Y streamer says when nobody has the fricking time to get all the information. It was just easier for everyone to read fricking forums. And because you can't curate or debate strategy on a wiki because of concerns for objectivity you can't use the wiki format to centralize that information. DotA has become such a bloated fricking mess of a game and Valve gives so few fricks that it will never grow again. And SC and SC2 is fricking sunset so even if the ground is stable nobody wants to play it.
I agree with you it was better when everyone was just doing dumb shit and mastery was being able to adapt to a totally bad situation. The Elemental tower defense games would give everyone the same random towers in Same Random mode and you'd have to make due with positioning and adapting. You couldn't lean on your cheese strategies.

Nobody struggles to get into sports because the skillsets and knowledge is passed down. I did years ago. I still have my original cds too. I can't get back into it though, the people playing the remaster are all guys who have been playing BW nonstop for a decade or more. I just replay the campaigns every year.

I don't have the time to commit to gitting gud on the ladder so I play casually on my own time, still an amazing game. I also watch Artosis on youtube while I eat my breakfast some mornings.
I hate protoss so much it's unreal. I get that it's a fresh campaign once you're done with zerg, but the absolute tonal shift still gives me whiplash. You go from one of the coolest missions in the game, where you're finally hitting your stride as zerg and you've got a FAT mineral line and tons of resources, you just POUR over the map and overrun the place actually embodying the swarm 110% in a way that feels so satisfying, immediately followed by >en taro adun frickboy, something something arrest tassadar something something council bullshit

this is literally SC1 manual stuff. The protoss had a huge civil war and had to enact some kind of super caste system in order to create peace. And they banished a lot of their own to make the khala happen. When they have their empire, and need to use like 10% of their power, they work fine. But when they have to fight for survival on their own planet, they fail. Two of the biggest toss missions is you fighting a giant civil war WHILE THE ZERG ARE RAPING AIUR.
In the zerg campaign, the only ZvZ you fight is because zasz was assassinated. The entire broodwar is factions trying to use zerg as their own weapon while zerg cannot do anything on its own. Once the overmind was killed zerg was practically useless.

tassadar purging planets wouldnt have mattered one bit. The initial zerg raids were just zerg scouting parties. Aiur wouldve been fine if the judicators didnt sperg out. They couldve let some dark templar land on aiur, kill the cerebrates, and let the zerg murder eachother as they are without any master.

I used to play alot, but its online mode is fricking dead. There is no fun loosing 10 matches in a row from oldgays or asiatics and then go practice your spam clicks for another 20mins. AI for offline 1v1s is pretty garbage too, and its a shame that they havent updated it

the mission design in the campaign of sc1 is very archaic and poorly thought out but the game is still really fun to play and has a lot of soul to everything, voice lines, music and artstyle

I think the scripting and trigger tools were still very limited. Brood War does a much nicer job of mixing things up and makes it a lot harder to just deathball your strongest units.

I hate protoss so much it's unreal. I get that it's a fresh campaign once you're done with zerg, but the absolute tonal shift still gives me whiplash. You go from one of the coolest missions in the game, where you're finally hitting your stride as zerg and you've got a FAT mineral line and tons of resources, you just POUR over the map and overrun the place actually embodying the swarm 110% in a way that feels so satisfying, immediately followed by

And they banished a lot of their own to make the khala happen. When they have their empire, and need to use like 10% of their power, they work fine. But when they have to fight for survival on their own planet, they fail. Two of the biggest toss missions is you fighting a giant civil war WHILE THE ZERG ARE RAPING AIUR.
In the zerg campaign, the only ZvZ you fight is because zasz was assassinated. The entire broodwar is factions trying to use zerg as their own weapon while zerg cannot do anything on its own. Once the overmind was killed zerg was practically useless.

I think the scripting and trigger tools were still very limited. Brood War does a much nicer job of mixing things up and makes it a lot harder to just deathball your strongest units.
Is a shame there are no missions in single player where you have an AI ally.
I played SC2 competitively back in HotS and dropped it after reaching platinum. It's not worth the stress.
