Why has no other From game managed to capture the same sense of adventure and wanderlust as the first Dark Souls?

Maybe they weren't expecting to make more than the first game
>they weren't expecting to make more than the first game
>sign three-game contract
After the success of the first you fricking monkey brained moron.
because they got lazy with the level design. fast travel unironically kills the sense of adventure, and especially in most open world games.
Adventures dont involve backtracking
I recently replayed it again. God the atmosphere was so great. Elden Ring for all it's budget couldn't recapture the same magic.
Discord troon thread
Thank you I hate these dick riding dark souls 1 homosexuals
Soul
looks good on my machine
Not much has changed I see
>Those ground and rock textures
This can't be real.
Maxed settings. Can't wait to see how badly they frick up the RTX update
Where in the game is it?
Gael Keep or whatever it's called, where you get the Redmane Flame ash
From
From never changes
Left actually looks better
oh yeah that's exactly how everyone plays the game, totally now spiriting past everything, barely stopping for a second, and just porting to a grace whenever minorly inconvenienced.
not everybody has ADHD
this game is fricking aimed at ADHD zoomers
Zoomers hate Elden Ring.
Yes, that's how straight cis people play the game, I stopped constantly to admire the scenery in the game, every few steps is a landscape worthy of being in a museum.
Wrong
I feel a few have done so. Heck, in Elden Ring, there are moments where you find beautiful underground worlds, and even aerial worlds, and can explore far more of them than what you could explore in Ash Lake.
Because you know what to expect after seeing their shit once
If you had played Demon Souls you wouldn't have been that impressed by Dark Souls either
these
Superior game design, game map that well thought isn't impossible to make but requires a bit of effort, which contradicts modern business philosophy
Every souls game after that was just a cash grab.
Because you got used to the formula and while the newer games are also good, you're never going to have it feel as new as unique as the first one you played. That or because OLD GOOD and NEW BAD, depending on how jaded and contrarian you want to be
Because it's just not the kind of game that they want to make, for some reason, and I have no idea how 1 happened in the first place if every game since has been HOW ABOUT WE MAKE IT BIGGER AND REALLY FRICKING HORIZONTAL, and even Demon's Souls before it was similarly horizontal as hell, so to speak
That's how you feel? Imagine starting with DeS and playing DaS. It's literally the same game then Artorias released and ended RPG in the souls series.
Elden Ring does everything DS1 does but 100x better, not even close discord troony.
ds1 still beats it in level design and lore.
No it doesn't. That's you again being emotional.
Soul
that's not soul shut the frick up it's bad
>the worst area of DS1 is just the blueprint for 99% of the copy-pasted dungeons in ER
what did he mean by this?
Reminder that this is DS1 and Elden Ring literally does everything better. If you're too blinded by emotion and nostalgia that's fine, you were 12 I get it, but you have to concede that DS1 is flawed..objectively and fundamentally.
>Clearly telegraphed attacks
>Single attacks
>No insane tracking
>All attacks can be easily blocked or rolled
Take me back.
>you were 12
Is this the new thing? Everyone that disagrees with me is a zoomer? I was 25 when DS1 came out and played it when I was 28.
I believe I was 22 when it came out. Dark Souls 1 is a great game homosexual.
Because it's the first one you played
Still the best one to me. This was the game that started the whole craze of souls-like games. I wish that remaster added proper QOL improvements and some minor alterations though like improving izalith. Dark Souls 1 still remains my favorite of all time game.
i was burned out with the series and couldnt finish 3 due to getting bored but Elden ring rekindled my interest and i played like 400 hours with multiple playthroughs. I think Elden ring is the best, its biggest flaw is that its not that great to replay when you know where everything is.
I feel sorry for people who looked up builds or where to find stuff instead of looking for it themselves and i feel sorry for people who sucked at the gameplay and didnt appreciate all the new features they added to combat like jumping/ducking to avoid attacks, stance break, etc. It is one of the best games in terms of exploring to find items, up there with morrowind.
Literally fast travel
going down the forest elevator to get to the underground city in Elden ring is literally just ash lake but better.
Elden Ring was better.
because it was the first (not counting snoy souls). that's all.
Not level design
Not atmosphere
Not enemies
Not lore
if Elden Ring was the first, this thread would be "why has no other from game managed to capture blah blah blah".
There's no way for them to capture that feeling again without drastic changes.
Elden Ring suffers from dishonest art direction. It makes you think the world his bigger than it really is. Dark Souls is more transparent with its limitations yet it works around them in a genius fashion.
DaS wasn't transparent about anything and that's part of the appeal.
Elden Ring wasn't dishonest about anything and was in fact, bigger than it appeared. The first trips into the lower river areas were a surprise for everyone, guaranteed.
>Elden Ring suffers from dishonest art direction. It makes you think the world his bigger than it really is. Dark Souls is more transparent with its limitations yet it works around them in a genius fashion.
What the frick is dishonest art direction? Your entire post is pseudointellectual diarrhea.
after DS1 they are forever out of gas it seems. Just look at the Elden shit.
KNEEL
>He hasn't played sekiro
Also, Elden Ring almost did it. But the combat was ass in a game revolving around exploring to kill shit. DS1's combat was jankier, true; but the whole world adhered to those rules. Enemies were also jank-ish in their own way. in Elden Ring only the player janks.
Dark Souls didn't give you teleportation for a fair chunk of the game. Not only did you have to make the trek from one place to the next but you have to fight your way back out after.
Simple as that. People will cry "wah! Backtracking bad!" but it's what gives places that sense of travel.
No warping meant that you constantly had to calculate the risk of exploration in term of resources and character ability, while you'd have the drive to "see what's at the end of the tunnel" as something to keep you tense. Like going into the Great Hollow/Ash Lake too early, and not being sure if you'll be able to make your way back up when stuck at the bottom bonfires.
The hability to warp between bonfires. Remember the first time you got to Tomb of the Giants or Ash Lake and had to leg it all the way back?
hard agree. what the frick is up with graces every 100 feet
And then being able to teleport to every one of them? Terrible for the atmosphere and sense of adventure
I'm hoping for a mod that removes most of them
Imagine a soulslike set in the universe of Mad God
Because Dark Souls became more about le heccing difficulty! and less about the stuff Dark Souls was actually fun for. Like the exploration, obtuse storytelling and atmosphere. Only morons played Dark Souls for its combat.
Bloodborne unironically ruined Dark Souls forever, and Dark Souls 3 cemented its fate.
>sense of adventure
>wanderlust
