As a franchise it can never fail, perfect testing grounds
Right gba games look soulless.
(you)
small indie company
This but unironically
game freak has 200 employees. You are a massive imbecile if you think that's indie. Hollow knight has two guys and a b***h who does the female bug voices.
What's that cave on Treasure Beach? I don't remember that being there.
Same. I don't remember something being there, either.
Is this shit a romhacking?
It's on FRLG, at the Southwest of one of the sevii islands. Can't recall which one right now, but I'm pretty sure was one of the three first.
Yes, that is the place I showed people the map. There's no cave there.
You can search google 'Treasure Beach' and watch it on youtube, wiki. You can't find any caves on Treasure Beach as the one OP posted.
Agreed. They could make up bullshit to blame GF.
As someone who played both games (Zelda and Pokemon) on GBA, I can say this photo is slightly biased.
This scene is a masterpiece, but it only happens in this place; the rest are like Pokemon. If you have to take pictures to compare, you should compare the weather effects between the two games.
Though. I agree that Groundon's Harsh Sunlight effect on the field isn't as pretty as Zelda's.
>the rest are like Pokemon
Pretty bad cope when this is in the OP too.
It's not about the sunlight. It's clear to see that the spritework in that game is miles above the spritework in RSE/FRLG.
makes sense considering all of game freaks original artists are talentless hacks
It doesn't.
That photo deliberately chose the best scene to make Pokemon feel inferior. If you play Zelda then most of your sprites will look like this.
Minish cap is still the best game but I'm not here to be biased
and its still better
Still better spritework than pokemon
Lmao do you imply that pic looks as bad as Pokémon?
Imagine being this delusional
Nah dude, everything looks way more vibrant and most of pixel art here have actual depth in it.
Frick, it even have soulful moving shadows from clouds above. It is nowhere near as shit as gen 3 with it vomit inducing color palette and shitty tile work
Hello, here.
Because the color scheme in that scene is nothing special. It's just that you try to paint a good picture on a 2D background, while the sunlight scene clearly shows the depth of 3D in the 2D image.
see
The reason I chose the sunlight scene is that they mixed colors well. Warm and cold are two contrasting colors: by painting the lawn light green (cold), the photo brought out the colors of the sun (warm), creating the feeling that you are really in a deep forest with a layer of leaves that shade from the sun if viewed from above. RSE needs at least two frames (i.e. animation) to show Groudon's sunlight, so it can't be put into a single image like OP did to make a fair comparison.
For the rest, It's not comparable because the OP's photo intentionally doesn't put everything in the same frame of reference.
You guys can say whatever is better because beauty is subjective, but there must be a reason. If you didn't have one, you could prove it with specific data, like a survey with a good sample. Count me in if you have one, or else this is not going anywhere.
>You guys can say whatever is better because beauty is subjective
Uh, no. This isn't really a matter of beauty or style, it is blatant that Zelda has superior animation, visual fidelity and rendering of assets when putting the two side by side. There is an absolutely zero chance that Pokemon actively wanted it's trees and landmarks to look as artificial as possible for "artistic reasons". You're doing the equivalent of comparing SwSh's shit wild area to BOTW's standard wilderness enviroment and saying "welll... it's in the eye of the beholder..."
Pokemon RBY has the graphics and performance of a launch GB game, its basically a trademark of the series by this point
inb4 the obligatory "those other games look like shit!!!"
But those other games do look like shit tho
The real question is why does SwSh look better than SV? What is wrong with this bastard franchise? What did we do to get stuck with GAME FREAK?
Frick off galartroony
You can't keep lying to yourself forever, Ohmori-kun
>why does SwSh look better than SV?
Because Sword and Shield have an actual art direction (cel-shaded with outlines that are an "evolution" of what they were already doing with XY and SM) instead of just getting ride of the cel-shaded and pasting shitty textures in everything with some generic lighting.
A Pokémon game has never been as soulless as scarlet and violet, which are more like any generic Chinese game for android.
art style wise yes
but the main side characters themselves have a fair amount of soul for pokemon standards
>SwSh look better than SV
In what fricking universe?
It doesn't
GF can't handle open areas.
After all, what's the worst looking part of SwSh? The Wild Area.
its the artstyle
vibrant colors + celshading + outlined textures
all contribute to a more cleaner and visually appealing look
what's the top left GBA game?
Pokemon Emerald
damn mr brineys house looks better than I remember...
Sword of Mana
ah, I've played secret of mana on snes but couldn't tell. GBA one looks much better and I thought secret of mana looked good still.
pretty cool
At least use real pics, the last one in the GBA Pokemon games row is from a shitty ROM hack.
because tendie pedos have zero standards and will consoom anything with a Nintendo logo
That wasn't really the case until the Switch. Pokemon's graphics are usually mid but not terrible. I can think of much worse looking games on the GBA like Demikids.
>left
SOUL
>right
souvless
They could have gone for yummy pixel art direction on GBA. DS games were nice tho
Game Freak suck at making games, but their 2D games weren't horrible to look at like the 3D ones. They also had the benefit of having generally larger worlds than most other RPGs on the same hardware.
Sun & Moon look better than most 3DS games
>but their 2D games weren't horrible to look at
yes they were
They really weren't. Especially not in battle.
gen 5 is the ugliest game in the series to date, ESPECIALLY in battles.
6*
5*
What? You just posted peak 2D and 3D Pokemon respectively. B2W2 are the best looking games on the DS and XY are the best looking games on 3DS.
>B2W2 are the best looking games on the DS
play more video games
there are GBA games that look better than BW2
>B2W2 are the best looking games on the DS and XY are the best looking games on 3DS.
Absolutely not
nice bait, zoomer. It's obvious you either don't know what quality even is, or you're dedicated enough to post fake sprites that don't actually show how the game looked like.
I never had a hard time looking at a pokemon game aside from Area Zero, but comparing it to other games on the same engine, you could tell from day 1 they were behind the curve, and not just graphics wise. Every single mainline pokemon game, EVERY single one, would look like dogshit when comparing it to other games on the same system.
Pokemon's graphics were serviceable until Swoosh
Even Let's Go looked fine despite its blocky world. Nothing amazing or groundbreaking, but fine nevertheless.
Despite its absolutely shitty mechanics, LGPE was a masterpiece in terms of graphics
I liked the capture mechanics, but it really suffered from having no form of wild battles at all.
>LGPE was a masterpiece in terms of graphics
let's not go that far. it looks like a clean mobile game
I would've enjoyed this game if it had regular capture mechanics and could be played docked. Unfortunately, they HAD to add in some autistic shit that made it incredibly unfun for no reason.
I actually really liked the idea of a Kanto revisit for pokemons jump to HD/home consoles but it was so weird
Why do you keep recycling the same shitty bait?
Most of Xenoblade's overworld looks like a shitty jpeg file I don't understand why people wank it so much
I feel the same. Dragon Quest XI's look was what I was hoping for. I never cared for how Xenoblade looked.
Game Freak isn't very talented and (more importantly), rushes their games out.
talentless hacks
this
pokemon has some good character designers but pretty much everyone else in any other art department is a talentless hack
and it looks like the actual talented people have left as well
the scat toilet character designs are some of the worse i have ever seen
Because gamefreak is a shitty studio compared to those big studios really you ask repetitive and dumb questions
The real reason is because Gamefreak is TINY. They were a small team who happened to stumble into making the franchise in the world. But they never really left the "small studio" mentality. It's why they largely stuck to handhelds right up until they no longer had a choice. They still have an EXTREMELY small staff compared to any other AAA studio, even after being forced to expand for the Switch games.
I actually own dragon quest XI and it doesn't look all that pretty on the switch, sure it looks better than sword and shield but it's also a game made out of literal hallways.
The answer is obvious: yearly releases.
Compare how many Zelda games we got in the last 10 years with how many Pokémon games we got.
