their love was so shallow compared to every other love story in every ff before and after until 12
its not even as compelling as ff15 and that game sucks
what is this supposed to prove
it just shows that women are more forgiving of flaws and can appreciate lots of different things about lots of different types of men
whereas men are so shallow if you arent a literal goddess representation of whatever porn woman theyre imagining, they judge you as not attractive immediately

This. FF8's relationship is probably the most accurate I've seen of teenage love. Rinoa swings from Seipher to Squall because she's an immature girl. Squall being a lonely introvert crushes hard on the girl that pulls him out of his shell.
I'm reminded of middle school. There was this chick I hated since kindergarten. Not sure why, I just disliked her. In 7th grade something changed. She was smart, but could be funny and also a b***h. But she also was sympathetic when she heard about my mom being ill. Whatever it was I became obsessed. That's how it works. One minute you don't give a frick about anything, the next you're willing to die for a stranger.
Anon, the love stories in 7 and 9 are both better than 8. Nevermind 10 which blows it out of the water.
8 is the Squall-show and Rinoa is just along for the ride.
Give me a good romance story/plot/idea for my game.
Setting: Normal high school (no supernatural or magic)
Genre: Off the rails extreme drama romance/melodrama
Who are the characters?
What are the conflicts?
the school incel has rich parents and pays the Highschool Stacy to date him but she actually falls in love with him for his personality and then Chad goes on a mass school shooting to get revenge on Incel for stealing his girl
they got the aesthetics down perfectly, and they did the traditional knight / princess thing with a sorceress twist, which was really cool; they forgot to add a few slice-of-life scenes where they warm up to each other though, so it looks like Squall just becomes suddenly obsessed wth her for no reason. An interesting twist would be that Squall is somewhat linked to the sorceresses and that Rinoa being infected with Ultimecia suddenly made her really attractive to Squall (or disarmed Squall so he could realise his affections), but that's not really hinted at. R=U is a solid theory imo. Aesthetically it's the best FF love story but the character dialogue needed work.
I like Squall because it's both at the same time.
We get to see a lot of his inside monologuing which show him to be insecure or conflicted about a lot of things. If you only consider this dialogue to be his character then he would seem to be weak and only really just pretending.
However, it is still true he tries to use the reasons for his insecurity to motivate his actions. If he's going to be abandoned anyway he'll just make it so he can go at it alone.
In that sense the Garden environment is perfect for him. Train to become a strong mercenary, do as you're told and complete the mission you're given.
But in addition, even though he could just act like a drone he's shown to always be evaluating things, looking at things from different angles, which allows him to adapt to changing situations on the fly very well.
Which all translates to the behavior mentioned in
But despite his competency he is still a broken person inside. He shuts out people even when they're just doing natural people stuff with him, sometimes explicitly invoking the idea that they're just doing a job.
Even so those people show him that it's worthwhile to be able to get along. You can be focused on doing a job, but not being able to handle people is also a problem.
In that sense I also think his sudden switch to wanting to get Rinoa, while maybe not portrayed perfectly, is very consistent. After endless internal debate the realization that this is something he wants grabs him and he's going to complete the mission no matter what. It might be a case of 'what does he see in Rinoa', but it makes sense for his character I think.
Garnet was far more attractive, both lookswise and personalitywise and only morons would claim otherwise. Rinoa is just a typical damsel in distress. Garnet might seem like a damsel in distress, but she is actually badass.
FFVIII is almost as bad as XIV when it comes to the absurd notion of teenagers having massive geopolitical influence employing nothing but a ragtag group of mercenaries.
honestly I didn't mind that at all, the SeeD stuff is kino. I even like that weird arc in act 2 where you fight the underboss of Balamb with one party while taking down a Galbadian missle base with another, culminating in a kino cutscene. in general, for whatever flaws ff8 has, the aesthetics are absolutely amazing. there's some really inspired artwork in there.
Because real gamers don't play to watch cut scenes.

how was FF8 shallow?
they barely interact
women care about looks rather than personality. if anything that makes their relationship more authentic
>women care about looks rather than personality
You're thinking of men.
what is this supposed to prove

ok that at least makes sense for his argument
moron.
it deserves repeating: moron

If you skip all the dialogues, sure
>If you skip all the dialogues, sure
or never use the annoying b***h

9 is the best by far. Tifa and cloud are friends and squall...
>no cloud, no squall shall hinder our love - zidane
The transformation of Squall from antisocial butthole to some romantic Disney hero was so moronic and unbelievable and forced.
It made 9gays perpetually mad because their game is seen as inferior in comparison. Kinda the same that happened with GTA SA and IV.
>he looks cool, let's frick
Rinoa is bawd and Seifers sloppy seconds
I love FF8 and even I can tell you that the love story is ass

Where's the melodrama? I'm talking crazy juicy soap opera drama.
stacy is pregnant with chads kid before she leaves him for incel
I remember when spoony put the dance fmv to Nelly
Still makes me laugh

was Squall actually a chad or was he just pretending?
Squall is this archetype

The text to this reminds me of this a lot.
>not even the best romance in the series
FFX had the best romance development and actually had Chemistry
was Rinoa actually beautiful?
Garnet was far more attractive, both lookswise and personalitywise and only morons would claim otherwise. Rinoa is just a typical damsel in distress. Garnet might seem like a damsel in distress, but she is actually badass.
>Seifer's sloppy seconds
Yeah no thanks
thats only in the english version
She's the worst ff girl, absolute shit tier character.

>act 2
I mean disc 2 ofc
Compete with what? How shit it is? Bahamut Lagoon i guess.
Xenogears.
10? I swear morons on this board don't play videogames.
Every other FF romance blows 8's out of the water.
Except for 15's
Noctis has a stronger bond with his bros than Squall had with Rinoa.
because Noctis spent time with his bros.
Which is more than I can say about that lameass love interest from 15, Stella
the truth filters the plebs
stay mad 9gays
why do 8 fans have a hateboner for 9 fans?
HD Remake WHEN???!!
