it probably didn't make them any more money.
>Why have we progressed backwards?
This question is anti-Semitic, anon.
It's not progressing backwards, it prioritizing face rigs over shallow customization.
>prioritizing face rigs
Face animation still looks like ass in almost every video game, though. Dragon's Dogma 2 faces barely move and (outside of scripted, "game takes control of the camera" cutscenes) never emote beyond 'smiling' and 'not smiling'
More customization options is a fair trade-off for my character's teeth clipping through their lips sometimes. That's *my fault*, I'm not gonna blame the game for something I chose to do
(This is also my argument that every game ought to have an "uncap the sliders? yes/no" option)
>outside of scripted, "game takes control of the camera" cutscenes
Sounds like they are animated when it matters, the only time you'll actually see your characters facial features anyways instead of your character creation monstrosity for reddit pictures. But capcom is shit and has always been shit, so I don't know why you are using them as an example.
>your character creation monstrosity for reddit pictures
I show them to my friends and loved ones for fun
Also there's a roleplay appeal to knowing how your character looks, even if no one else in real life does, and no one else in-game cares. it informs how I interpret my character's personality, which informs the build I choose, etc. i'm an autist and I get attached to my player avatars very easily
>But capcom is shit and has always been shit, so I don't know why you are using them as an example.
I couldn't think of any examples of "2020s RPG with character creation menu" besides DragDog2, BG3, and Elden Ring 🙁
(and I specified "hack'n'slash" because, if I'd included BG3, someone would have um-actually'ed me because CRPG character creators are shit by tradition)
I compromised my integrity to write what I thought was a more engaging post and you'll forgive me
>I compromised my integrity to write what I thought was a more engaging post and you'll forgive me
God forgives, and I forgive.
>shallow customization
I think its enough, In fact, I think its too much, game should return to wizardry-likes "choose a Portrait" method.
Its a really gay to spend so much time on Char creation
Did you miss the part in the DD2 character creator where after picking a face it gives you the option for detailed customization?
... Did you not edit your characters body at all?
>progressed backwards
Because it's pointless. Just include 3-4 default faces and that is enough, or better yet just have 1 face/character and don't bother with moronic unnecessary shit like face creation.
>all these DDtards seething that they can't even get a character creator that's as good as what bethesda shat out a decade ago
pic related, it's the massive cope that will ensue
Same reason modern consoles often render at lower internal resolution and framerate than a PS2: it's all about spending as little as possible without upsetting the vast majority of customers.
An RPG without sliders for the character creation is not an RPG.
Competency crisis.
Is this post implying that the middle greentext is the good one? I genuinely can't tell. To me having excessive sliders for stupid shit you would never notice or care about unless it were specifically pointed out to you is the definition of dogshit character creator. I'd rather pick from a selection of completely unmodifiable presets than feel obligated to spend 3 hours of my life going through a bunch of superfluous sliders for dumb minutiae.
What a way to admit to face blindness
