fatal frame?
rule of rose?
>tfw found two copies of Rule of Rose in a storage closet a few weeks ago
>one of them is factory sealed
stray dog was pretty unnerving when you examine the calender.
I got this and the sequel on my Steam Deck. I'm a little burnt out on Survival Horror games right now since I just finished Silent Hill 1, Fatal Frame 1 and Alisa.
Then wait for a bit, Siren is fairly long and requires a hell of a lot of patience. Also it was directed by SH1's creator.
Survival horror meets adventure game puzzles and a story out of order you're supposed to connect the dots on, by revisitng old levels, finding lore items scattered around and paying attention. Lots of Japanese religion shenanigans, lots of straight up fricked up story beats and character ends.
Frick, second post meant for
I got a boner when she showed up all deformed, eating garbage near the end.
>Alisa
Is it worth playing in your opinion?
Already played Fatal Frame 2.
Redpill me on this game. Critics and reviews sites gave it bad scores.
>Reading reviews instead of experiencing the game yourself
Hope you're not actually this moronic.
SIREN is the manifestation of Toyama Keiichiro's genius. The atmosphere of Hanuda Village, the lore and beliefs unique to this village, the story, the background music, the enemies, the main character (especially the fact that they used real actors I recognized), the setting, everything
I wasn't surprised at how well everything was done, it's a Toyama game after all.
Also, the story is very detailed and draws you in. The more I learned about it, the more I was amazed at how perfectly it was made.
This sounds enticing but I will need a guide to play it, right? Be honest. I fricking hate pulling guides.
For 100%ing the game? Yes. It's not absolutely necessary for getting a satisfying ending, it depends on the player himself but I believe 90% of the players will use a guide at least in some situations. You have to have one hell of a brain and unparalleled patience to play the game without a guide. I've replayed it a lot but I still look up a guide in some situations. It's certainly better to look up a guide only when you absolutely need it.
A fansite interviewed Toyama and they asked him why the puzzles and the solutions were so complicated and obtuse in SIREN. He explained that he wanted people not to figure things on their own but to share their progress and findings with others and work with them to beat the game. That's one of the purposes of the game.
>He explained that he wanted people not to figure things on their own but to share their progress and findings with others and work with them to beat the game
How shit that was a nightmare back then when the internet wasn't used as much as today
Japan loved it. Hell the main protagonist goes to the village the game takes place in precisely because he reads about it on some creepypasta forum
They still have anniversary events for this game every year with merchandise, like these Keychains
Reviewers probably got filtered by the tank controls and the obtuse sub-objectives. It's a great game, with an amazing atmosphere, it's just that you're almost guaranteed to get stuck somewhere at least once because you didn't do some some shit in a previous stage like hiding your escort mission character in a specific spot so they can find some object while they're hiding in that place.
Atrocious control.
They literally got beyond filtered.
It's Silent Hill + Fatal Frame + stealth
pathetic
don't post my wife ever again
I always get side-tracked by something else.
I wanted to like this game, but the gameplay filtered me HARD.
Second game has better controls, which is a big point of contention about these games.
Its like 80 hours long
why is there no undub for this game? the goofy bong voice actors takes me right out of it
>he can't enjoy Shiro's godtier VA or Yoriko going PROFESSAH every three seconds
ngmi
There probably would be one if subtitles were programmed into the game. Second game has voice options and subs.
Blood Curse is Americanized trash, completely soulless compared to the original.
>he hates the voice acting
Actual pleb.
Blood Curse isn't a bad game by any means (it was actually my introduction to Siren) but the original is by far the superior version. And 2 is a superior version of 1 in almost every way.
lol
lmao even
2 is better than 1 when it comes to controls and the game being less obtuse but the whole horror mood is ruined with how you play as soldiers with assault rifles.
That happens in most horror games. When you have better weapons and therefore in control, it turns into an action game instead
Not really, given you still go down like a b***h if literally any Shibito/Yamibito closes the distance. And you don't have guns (or even lots of asmmo) barring a few missions.
The only time it genuinely goes full action is when THE BUSTER returns, and that's literally post-game.
I'm playing it right now and you definitely get more weapons than in 1, low ammo is not really a problem since you can down more shibitos with other weapons and re-stock and you also don't go down that easily unless it's a shibito with a machine gun, the others you can tank quite a couple of hits.
I think it's better this way since it's less tedious but it also takes away some of the fear.
Also semi-unrelated but does anyone know if the in-game websites they give you don't work anymore? I tried going into one that I got in 2 but I couldn't access it.
Last time I played the game was a couple years ago and shibito.com still worked, Akiko's Parlor was down but archived.
How do you access them? I tried the shibito one too and it didn't work
Just checked and the Wayback Machine has shibito.com, occultland.com (the forum that made Kyoya visit Hanuda), shu-mikami.com (self explanatory) and yumemi-salon.com (Akiko's tarot)
Thanks
the ancient facial capture and the stupid shitbrit voices ruin it. Honestly like Blood Curse better even with the Amerigolem characters just because the Japanses characters are all played by japs.
The plot is dumber in 2 and some of the monster designs are just straight up goofy. I like 1's concept on an infant insect alien turning a town into a horrifying bug hive better than the literal gods in 2.
This or Blood Curse?
Blood curse isn't bad but the original still has the better cast of characters and take on the story, Siren 1 and 2 feel very grand in scope and ambitious for the time while Blood curse is more like a cliff notes or abridged version of the first game with some mechanics from Siren 2, I'd start with 2 or Blood curse first then 1
I tried it butit's honestly too scary, I can't play it. I got to the level where you wake up as some scientist guy in a forest in the middle of the night, that was my breaking point and I couldn't go any further.
Too lazy to emulate and too poor to buy a ps4 and overpriced used copy of ding up game.
I was planning on playing either Siren or Kuon once I finish Fatal Frame 5.
Already watched a full LP of it. I had fun.
>full LP
gay
At least tell me it was supergreatfriend
It was, for both games.
>gay
I was never gonna play it anyway. I'm not that fricking in love with jank PS2-era horror esoterica.
Same goes for shit like Rule of Rose, Haunting Grounds, whatever Clock Tower was there on the PS2 first (Clock Tower 3 or something?). Those games are works of art, some more than others. I have no desire to ever play them, regardless.
I have, and it's times like this im thankful Siren perished in the Sony mines, because while I wanted a Siren 4 last decade, I'm optimistic for Toyama and Sato's future at Bokeh
didn't this game come with a little guide? i want to play it but i'm caught between how esoteric some of the objectives are and not wanting to just look everything up in a walkthrough. are 2 and blood siren like this as well?
Pic related is from the manual of the game
thanks motherfricker
You're welcome
WTF OP How did you know about this game and post a thread after I made a post earlier about it with 0 replies as first post? Is this game cursed or something? Please creepypastagays come home and tell me how I'm cursed to play gayem
how's it emulate? don't have an actual PS2 available currently unfortunately
Perfectly in software mode (but software mode only supports native res, not that it's a problem anyway since that's the resolution it would run at on an actual PS2)
Oh and if you haven't been emulating PS2 recently, just remember to download the nightly build of PCSX2, NOT the ancient stable release.
Because quite frankly I'm too stupid for it
Jesus frick. The secondary objectives are awful on a few of these missions man.
>post on Ganker
>post on Ganker in 1 minute and 55 seconds
>post on Ganker after throwing a janny down a well
Yeah the speedrunning ones are the worst everytime I replay this game I usually dread them but you learn new little tricks to shorten the time down like with Akira on Harayadori
i'm not contrarian enough to consider this, or fatal frame good.
Siren 2 is way better and criminally underrated. Siren 1 practically impossible to beat without consulting a walkthrough.
Siren 1 had terrible levels so I never finished it which made me never play 2. It's bad, why does anyone ever try to claim it's da best ever?
Because you were filtered instead of naturally learning the levels' layout like the back of your hand, which is what ends up happening and why it feels so good to conquer each mission and its objectives except the timed ones
The whole thing being laid out as levels was off putting as well. Gives the impression I'm just in for jump scares like that shitty until dawn vr roller coaster game. That being the case it doesn't feel like a world if feels like levels. It doesn't evoke any desire to "learn it like the back of my hand" if it felt like a world I was gonna learn about it's be different. Instead it felt like -get to the goal and do next level!- I didn't sign up for Mario.
I'll deal with being filtered - it's shit.
Siren Blood Curse is better than Siren 1.
>but it's americanized!
It's by the same fricking team and now instead of it being britishized it's "americanized" because SOME of the characters are American tourists. The story is the exact same but some of the characters are different. It has the kids in it so it wasn't "censored" or anything.
>but it does the story worse!
Like? Give an example. First game had cutscenes like this https://youtu.be/q31KHcK0Irk?t=4882 so don't give that crap that the first game is some next level BONE CHILLING SLOW BURN HORROR
>but it plays worst >:(
Flat lie. It has better controls and performance. It adds checkpoints and removes the cryptic shit that required you to have a gamefaqs guide open 24/7. It lets you splitscreen the shibito instead of sitting there trying to get your bearings. You can see where you're going instead of running around blind because if you turn on the flashlight it pings everyone nearby to where you are. RPCS3 has a 60fps patch that doesn't break anything and no reported bugs with the emulation
>but it omits this cutscene
It streamlines the game's story in a good way. With the original, over 15 of the missions are just "this blimey bastard is ahead of us, we need to get out of here my good ol chap!" Then you have to play it twice, minimum, for the secondary objective.
This game gets one of the worst cases of blind OLD GOOD NEW BAD I ever saw. I don't need to sugar coat it, it's just better. I recommend anyone interested in Siren to just play the remake. Siren 2 had a bunch of gameplay improvements so that one's fine but Siren 1 is just not good to play. I put this game off for so long and it's awesome.
Another one to the list of RPCS3 games to download.
Blood Curse is inderrated. The child part and the ending was hilarious and terrifying at the same time0
Hope you get better soon
I like both games but I think I just like the larger original cast, I really think it evened out with letting half the cast be locals of Hanuda with a only 3 characters being outsiders, we get more from how Shiro and Kei act that show us how Hanuda residents act. Which you can argue is done well with Seigo Saiga, but I like how we also get more of a perspective from the average non zealot or political resident of Hanuda through the eyes of Tomoko Maeda and Takato/harumi (risa not necessarily counting since she left Hanuda for tokyo briefly). The player feels Hanuda as a community falling apart even more when the Maeda's are fully turned as well as seeing Mrs Takato and the Principle evolve. In Blood Curse we don't really get to feel Hanuda as a community really collapse since we predominantly see the 3 days through the eyes of the foreigners.
While I think the gameplay is better than Siren 1. I still prefer the originals art design and aesthetic. Feeling more like an independent film like the blair witch. I think Blood Curse is too visually dark but I like the film effects and the game isn't bad when you can actually see. Overall I don't think Blood Curse is bad and it really took a few steps forward with Siren 2's mechanics but if anything it felt more like a safe test for something better.
I ain't reading all that
I'm happy for u tho
Or sorry that happened
>hating on THE BUSTAH
why must I be forced to read such shit opinions every day of my life
Also making the sightjack mechanic split screen in Blood Curse was a stupid idea
New Translation is "fine". That's it, just "fine". It translates the gameplay well enough into next gen but downsizing the cast was moronic, as was retelling the first game instead of making a new story with new folklore like Yamijima Island was to Hanuda. If a game remakes an existing one, it better be a flawless objective 10/10 masterpiece or the original wins by default simply by being the one that actually had to come up with the ideas and mechanics to begin with and make them work with stricter limitations
first one has a much better atmosphere, it has such an unique feeling, it deserves to be played
Blood Curse is a good game. But don't try and act like it's better than the original because it downsized the cast or cut out lore by trying to be a "remake" instead of just making a new story to expand the world. And unlike the first two games, it doesn't have a Siren Maniacs lorebook to compensate or help expand on shit.
I'm actually in the middle of playing it right now. Been fun so far.
Because I played Forbidden Siren 2 instead.
Wish Sony would release it on Psn, it's a masterpiece
Got this for $8 at a video rental place years ago but it totally filtered me. Ended up giving it to a friend after he asked to borrow it and it became one of his favorite games
Reminder the cop in the first level of the first game isn't even a Shibito yet, honest to god he's just so fricking drunk from sake he finds a random teenager in the forest and opens fire. Kyoya genuinely kills him by hitting him with the truck, and only then when the siren blasts is he revived as a Shibito.
It's too hard.
If you find Fatal Frame scary, you are a b***h ass homie.
>yfw you saw it running at you
I've only played Siren Blood Curse, which I really wanted to like. Great style, but it was horribly boring, repetitive, and the objectives were strange and not intuitive. It wasn't scary.
Are the other games better?
I heard this was moronicly complicated coupled with escort stealth missions plus timing puzzles, so I never bothered.
Based moron
You can just switch to jap voices
Bro this entire thread is full of people saying they had to use guides.
You're a moron for not trying it out for yourself, BRO
Really? I guess I really wasn't bothered by the dub
You seem really upset at people for not playing your oh so beloved game. I have it on PCSX2 and I might delete it now bro
>You can just switch to jap voices
Only in the second game. Only the jap version of the first game has jap voices.
