why hgss are the best games

i've played hgss 6 times and I have more fun each time i play it. its perplexed at first because they seem like they should be boring games
>generic team rocket villain story
>generic npc battles unchallenging
>weak wild pokemon
but realized that hgss is fun precisely because it seems generic - each time you learn of new strategies, new pokemon, that are 'hidden' and are not easily thought of. the game compels the player to search in unexplored locations, explore unconventional strategies, and experiment with new pokemon that you may not think of.
some examples
>using natural gift with shard berry man in violet to defeat bugsy with bayleef
>realizing you can go to route 45 right after getting surf to get level 25 heracross and level 27 ambipom or level 32 poliwhirl
>the 1/1000 level 50 magikarp/gyarados in lake of rage
>learning voltorb flip to get flamethrower ice beam thunderbolt
>getting abra with flip for synchronize nature instead of getting natu
>figure out how to to get level 40 raikou before morty
>figuring out what moves to sketch with smeargle
>gym leaders and elite four are generally more difficult than npcs so even if reg trainers are easy you still have to optimize for battles such as with battle frontier tutor moves
(never battle wild pokemon for experience)
>dungeons like mt mortar whirl islands to explore

and many other hidden gems you can find. i feel in other games the above is shoved in your face (xy) or there is not much to strategize or find (frlg)

    >feel like playing HGSS
    >boot it up
    >remember it has random encounters
    >remember it has HMs
    >remember it has TMs that only work once and can’t be repeatedly obtained
    >remember it has no trainer customization
    >remember it has no ranked online
    >remember the breeding is shit
    >remember the EV training is shit
    >remember there's no ability capsules, patches, mints, or bottle caps
    >remember it uses lazy static sprites instead of pokemon that are actually animated
    >remember it has no party exp share
    >remember it has no box PC
    >remember all the railroading
    >remember the difficulty is even shittier than the newer games
    >go back to playing SV

      Good.
The 3D models are ugly and ruined so many designs

        >I don’t know what the designs looked like so they ruined the designs
Are you one of those moronic zoomers who didn’t realize the Cyndaquil line can turn off its flames?

i was just battling an NPC and he switched out his sandshrew for a zubat when i put it to sleep with my oddish, i didn't even know random trainers could di that because it never happens but i wish it happened more now, these games really are special.

    >learning voltorb flip to get flamethrower ice beam thunderbolt
how does one "learn" voltorb flip with RNG manip?
it feels like you often get situations that are 50/50 where you have to guess

i love spending 12 hours overleveling my chikorita to 23 (bayleef to 26) and spamming rock smash to get shards for a chance at the right berry so i can beat a level 17 gym leader. oh wait, i beat red and got a gold print from factory manip by that time

Not overlevelling if you only battle trainers have literally just enough experience with rare candy to make it work

        >grinding on optional trainers past Scyther's level is not overleveling
        >using rare candies on a meme strat when PoisonPowder, Cut and even Magical Leaf would've worked anyway because you're still overleveled
        >shards from rocks are uncommon and RNG
There's no point in using Natural Gift here. Unless you want to get pissed from using Chikorita instead of Bayleef in battle and deal with rock smash RNG, just do the speedrun strat with Bayleef and PoisonPowder and Cut. Bayleef's and Meganium's offensive movepool is shallow, so keeping Cut there hardly matters afterwards.

If you need to overlevel to beat Bugsy you're moronic
