This but with roguelites
Why the fuck would you ruin your game into forcing your players into a repetitive grind and instead of making nice levels just ruin it by using procedural generation?
Because consumers demand hundreds of hours of entertainment from their 15 dollar indie game and the only way indie devs have been able to produce enough content to satisfy this unrealistic desire is procedural generation. Hand designing levels takes time and on top of that if you make a bad one you can't blame the procedural generation. There are indie devs that made real linear games in the past whose newest releases are roguelites like the Hyper Light Drifter guy and commented that it was basically because of this. Audiences view your indie game as a waste to buy if it's not a rogulike because they know they will play that for a longer period of time even though a shit load of that time will be failed runs on poorly designed levels. It's extremely unfortunate how short sighted and stupid consumers are.
Bitch there shitty unity games who last 2 hours who still get popular.
I just think it's devs seeing roguelites and believing it what people want pushing the cycle deeper and deeper
This but with roguelites
Why the fuck would you ruin your game into forcing your players into a repetitive grind and instead of making nice levels just ruin it by using procedural generation?
It's definitely not for every game, and it can of course be done poorly, but procedural generation is great. I think all the hate it gets is just there was a phase where everyone was doing it and not well.
>complaining about cuphead's difficulty >When it has easy mode, the hearts, chaser, crackshot, parry heart and especially fucking Chalice
Yeah nah, the only people I see crying about Cuphead's "difficulty" are gaming journalist-tier retards who do deserve to be filtered out pike the chaff they are, let's be honest.
Honestly, that's the best way to do it. Have easy mode, but unlock progress only for higher difficulties. Children can have their training wheels but if they want to see the rest of the game, they have to grow out of them
I don’t agree especially with how the game plays and how they do easy mode. They should’ve just increased the damage and then give you a d rank every stage. You get to see the content but you feel bad for it unless you play the normal difficulty. But im more lenient about game difficulty i guess it just comes down to your personal game philosophy
While it is fun to see losers seethe when games mock then for using easy mode, I dont think letting them see everything is a good idea.
For a start, this method lets you design content exclusively for higher difficulties without worry about balance across the board, which removes a lot of possibility of shit going wrong or being underwhelming. For example, Saltbaker and the Devil font even have easy mode variants to fight
some new boomer shooter where you’re a violent fleischer artstyle mouse who shoots at other mice in that artstyle. A tech demo trailer was released yesterday, showing the gameplay
Swedes are the garden gnomes of the anglosphere, you really think they actually care about rapefugees or some plot by muh Zion elders? Nah Swedes are just fucking cheapskates and want to drive down wages by importing cheap labor from a low IQ population. Swedes are fucking retarded.
Classic cartoons were regularly being shown on TV through the 80s and 90s plus you had your boomer parents remembering them and buying them on video too so people around 30 to 50 years old have nostalgia for them.
Facile visual style over substance.
These are pseudo-moviegames made by non-creative gen xers as part of the subconscious drift towards media convergence.
>driving on the left
heh nice fake fo- >On Sunday, September 3, 1967, Sweden changed from driving on the left-hand side of the road to driving on the right.
what the fuck
That's not entirely true. I have nostalgia for cartoons from the 80s even though I was born in the early 90s because I still saw them on TV or rented them from the video store. People can experience things in their formative years that are from before their time and then end up having nostalgia for them.
No offense but 80's cartoons all suck ass. I tried watching some of the staples of 80's cartoon nostalgia like He-Man, Thundercats, GI Joe, gen 1 Transformers, it's all just blatant advertising that's unwatchable today unless you grew up buying the toys.
Well yeah I never said they were good, that's why it's nostalgia. I would never expect someone to watch He-Man or Thundercats today and get what I get from it. For me those shows remind me of a better time where all I had to worry about was which one I was going to rent from Video World that week with the one video rental my parents gave me. Though I think even without nostalgia you appreciate how unintentionally funny the low quality is sometimes. There's a reason there's so many He-Man memes.
yeah yeah I get that they did a good job recreating that artstyle and animating all of the enemies, but I think it just looks like shit. That artstyle is just inherently garbage, no matter the quality of the reproduction.
why do zoomers call every period influenced work as "nostalgia"? Is Red Dead Redemption also a Wild West nostalgia?
I know modern indie market is saturated with nostalgia, but use your fucking brain lmao
Gen Z literally has no idea how 2D animation is done. The entire art form is dead, in fact its so dead that not learning any form of 3D as an animator basically means you cant make it. If you arent doing endless Boss Babies, Minions, Turning Red garbage you fail.
zoomers and manchildren will tell you easier animation is "chill and not tryhard" which ironically enough is suits the fact that corporates like bland shit because it's cheaper
yet these cartoons are still outsourced to overworked koreans
It looks good and it's very different from everything else ? especially nowadays.
Also it's more than a particular artstyle, the whole 'cartoon logic' thing with very surreal situations, characters and environments is a bottomless pit of ideas for a creative mind.
I'm not really interested in a boomer shooter or action-oriented game but an exploration/puzzle game in a 30s cartoon world could be really nice. Solving puzzles in all sorts of wacky ways would be fun.
I've played all sorts of those games and I was never "drawn" to them. Space Invaders and Pacman and Pong are just stone age tier shit and I played it when there was nothing else around.
Rootbeer Tapper, Spy Hunter, I've played it all man.
Way back in the early 90's, Disney used to pad their schedule by playing reruns from every era of their production, at least, the stuff that was PC enough for TV at the time. It wasn't unusual to watch cartoons late at night and see material from fifty years ago. Now, most of those cartoons are deemed not suitable for children and there's enough content to pad schedules with out the archive. The concept of adult content presented in this visual style has been revived by movies throughout the 80's like Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
>"""GOLDEN""" AGE of animation >People like it
Are you stupid? It's not nostalgia, it's reverence. Not everything in art is based on what you liked as a kid
>nostalgia for times they didn't live in
The fuck? Hanna Barbara and Looney tunes cartoons were everywhere during the 90s, did you not grow up watching Cartoon Network back when it aired actual shows and not just Teen titans go all day?
That chromatic aberration is really killing my eyes.
I like how people still don't know what chromatic aberration is
Me neither, but why reply that to me?
Because you're gay
fug
Becuz dem white folks wanna remember dem good times wen racial segregation was still a thang.
>racial segregation
>things that never happend
Id like to play Cuphead more but it's too hard, what's people obsession with gatekeeping via difficulty can't they just make an easy mode too
Get good or accept reality and play something else.
Just watch a longplay and get the same experience.
It's not like it's a free roam game.
This but with roguelites

You can’t progress the game with easy mode
Honestly, that's the best way to do it. Have easy mode, but unlock progress only for higher difficulties. Children can have their training wheels but if they want to see the rest of the game, they have to grow out of them
I don’t agree especially with how the game plays and how they do easy mode. They should’ve just increased the damage and then give you a d rank every stage. You get to see the content but you feel bad for it unless you play the normal difficulty. But im more lenient about game difficulty i guess it just comes down to your personal game philosophy
Nah. I like how easy mode prevents you from even seeing the final transformation of the bosses
Literally 99% of the games out there are made specifically for gays like you. Let us have the remaining 1% please
if it were easy it would over too quick. thats how those platforming shooters are.
Cuphead does have an easy mode. But playing easy doesn't get you soul contracts, so if you play easy you can't actually fight the devil
Just use a trainer for infinite health.
>all these serious replies to this blatant bait
You don't watch too many movies or cartoons?
Was Kingdom Coem Deliverance 1400s nostalgia?
underrated
yeah
Sorta
Has ANYONE ever been nostalgic for the kingdom of herding cats that was the Holy Roman Empire?
I don't really think so.
Who let their bot post on Ganker?
I'm feeling quite hungry
Really need to rack in those 90 y/o gamers
it just looks good retard, because back then they actually had standards. nothing to do with nostalgia
is cool
what's the bottom game
some new boomer shooter where you’re a violent fleischer artstyle mouse who shoots at other mice in that artstyle. A tech demo trailer was released yesterday, showing the gameplay
Nostalgia isn't the only reason people appreciate and take interest in older things.
imagine not being a kid in the 80's and growing up watching classic disney and looney toons shit
at least morons are more honest than Swedes
how are swedes dishonest?
They wouldn't be importing shitskins in droves if they were honest, it's a way to undermine your opponents.
They will also pretend to be your friend even if they hate you, a moron would just shank you when they get fed up with your face.
Swedes are the garden gnomes of the anglosphere, you really think they actually care about rapefugees or some plot by muh Zion elders? Nah Swedes are just fucking cheapskates and want to drive down wages by importing cheap labor from a low IQ population. Swedes are fucking retarded.
>the garden gnomes of the anglosphere
it's literally just garden gnomes
Classic cartoons were regularly being shown on TV through the 80s and 90s plus you had your boomer parents remembering them and buying them on video too so people around 30 to 50 years old have nostalgia for them.
It's a nice aesthetic, especially if you're an actual animation-buff.
Everyone in the 90s grew up with re-runs of these old shows.
some of the appeal is the work put into the animation. Most games being cheap 3-D nowadays takes away a lot of soul and charm that 2-D games had.
Not playing the one below, 'cause I don't like FPS.
Animation used to be a craft that you had to learn and required draftmenship, skill and dedication
It's a really appealing aesthetic. Not fucking rocket science.
Hand drawn animation will always have a nostalgia factor.
I'm not really sure if it's nostalgia in this case, it's just a cool looking artstyle, and an unusual one for vidya
It's not nostalgia it's using a type of style rarely used in a game because it's new and fresh, stupid moron
>1930s animation style is new
It is new in gaming.
Facile visual style over substance.
These are pseudo-moviegames made by non-creative gen xers as part of the subconscious drift towards media convergence.
>t.
>driving on the left
heh nice fake fo-
>On Sunday, September 3, 1967, Sweden changed from driving on the left-hand side of the road to driving on the right.
what the fuck
>that one bitch patch nobody wabted and killed the game
>Death animations all look like shit
>The levels just look like dev test levels or some shit
Hard pass on the Mickey Mouse Mobster game.
There is not such a thing s 30s nostalgia, there is nobody alive that can have nostalgia for that.
But you compare that animation to what indi games hace nowadays, or the calarts shit in cartoons, and you have your answer.
That's not entirely true. I have nostalgia for cartoons from the 80s even though I was born in the early 90s because I still saw them on TV or rented them from the video store. ...nah, you're just a very gay zoomer. I can tell you grew up watching shit like Spongebob
>POC are le bad! Because i said so!
Fuck off, Ivan
>moron lover
Get lost
Its nostalgia for things you never experienced. It seems more common than ever nowdays.
Right because you cant watch 20s cartoons when you are a child
It's not nostalgia, I just enjoy the aesthetic
yeah yeah I get that they did a good job recreating that artstyle and animating all of the enemies, but I think it just looks like shit. That artstyle is just inherently garbage, no matter the quality of the reproduction.
Old Dinsey and Looney Tunes was a golden age of animation, the fuck don't you understand about this?
I can't even remember a modern traditionally animated film its all-3D computer animated slop for forever now.
People have forgotten what distinct art styles are like, stumbled upon some old cartoon and were blown away like it was almost 100 years ago.
People aren’t afraid of watching old cartoons
>AHHH BLACK PEOPLE WALKING
couldn't you at least find a video of actual crime?
Them being there should be a crime
I just like the artstyle of this particular type of animation
Sinple as
I play games actually set in the 1930s.
SOVL
SOVLLEST
Rubberhose animation is fucking kino and anyone who animates in that style should be celebrated.
Maybe the art style is cool and not everything is about muh nostalgia.
Whites really have kinda game-ended themselves huh?
Flanderization
Like how 80's has been boiled down to shitty VHS "aesthetic"
why do zoomers call every period influenced work as "nostalgia"? Is Red Dead Redemption also a Wild West nostalgia?
I know modern indie market is saturated with nostalgia, but use your fucking brain lmao
>Zoomer
>Brain
You're talking about people who had computers and cell phones practically out of the womb.
Gen Z literally has no idea how 2D animation is done. The entire art form is dead, in fact its so dead that not learning any form of 3D as an animator basically means you cant make it. If you arent doing endless Boss Babies, Minions, Turning Red garbage you fail.

Man I have mad nostalgia for Mickey Mania I love all of the random shit you could interact with in the Steamboat Willie stage.
For the same reason people who have never played pacman or tetris or any other really fucking old arcade game are always drawn to them
I've played all sorts of those games and I was never "drawn" to them. Space Invaders and Pacman and Pong are just stone age tier shit and I played it when there was nothing else around.
Rootbeer Tapper, Spy Hunter, I've played it all man.
>sweden.webm
This is Paris, France.
Was about to say, the architecture looked suHispaniciously french and our crosswalks do not have diagonal lines.
What is the game on the bottom pic?
Mouse
>have the ability to interact with 1930s cartoons directly
>let's just kill and shoot stuff
video games will never be art
lots of people on this site have 1930s nostalgia
It's just a cool aesthetic, what does that have to do with nostalgia you retard?
What is this exactly?
Way back in the early 90's, Disney used to pad their schedule by playing reruns from every era of their production, at least, the stuff that was PC enough for TV at the time. What is this? Illegal immigrant holding? Don't cross my border illegally, brown. If its sandmorons I literally do not give a shit.
Any American who sympathizes with eurotrash in any capacity should be publicly executed
>Why is 1930s nostalgia even a thing?
a lot of people grew up watching reruns of looney tunes and tom & jerry
The cartoons were better
Any period in the past was better than nowadays. "Every period is good in something and bad in something" is a myth.
It was a cool animation style made back when animation had to be done by hand and not on a computer and/or outsourced to Korean wage slaves
>"""GOLDEN""" AGE of animation
>People like it
Are you stupid? It's not nostalgia, it's reverence. Not everything in art is based on what you liked as a kid
