Why is CDPR so shit with villains?

First it was Eredin in Witcher 3 who gets almost no scenes and you barely know who the frick he is by the time you fight him then the exact same thing again in Cyberpunk with Smasher.
Eredin at least had a cool looking fight but Smasher doesn't even have that, he just goes out like a b***h after doing nothing the entire game.

The main antagonist of Cyberpunk is V. Everything he does ends up hurting him and those around him.

They should've had him kill Jackie while talking shit to V.
Would've legit been enough motivation to last the entire game.

Adam Smasher isn't a villain. He's a plot device that GMs throw at the uppity players.

  8. 8 months ago

He’s just the heavy. Literally the exact same as someone like Frank Horrigan in Fallout 2. The actual villain is Arasaka itself.

You're giving people a lot more credit than they deserve, assuming they can understand a plot with a depth greater than 0.

The biggest blunder wasn't having him do nothing, it was having him lose. Ruins the entire point of Adam Smasher being the "end" of the "Night City Dream." The story would have been better if V fought another actual final boss, before facing Adam Smasher in a fight where he is so beyond your character that he will kill you no matter what.

Especially considering that CDPR wants to do a sequel. Now they just lost their best villain unless they pull some "BUT ACTYOOALY HE WAS DATAGRAMMED AND PUT IN ANOTHER BODY" bullshit.

Both DaiOni and Dragoon suits come with an increased risk of Cyberpsychosis - plus they come partnered with Behavioral Inhibitors, which Smasher disliked. Literal brainwashing.

      >Adam Smasher being the "end" of the "Night City Dream."
Smasher isn't this, Night City / the world itself is. It's a dystopian hellscape where no one is granted a peaceful or meaningful end: from street junkies to Saburo Arasaka—even smasher is a walking husk at this point, essentially soul-ripped by his augments, a drone doing what his owners tell him to. Yorinobu said it best, they're all captured by a world that no longer exists, one that may never had existed.

      Also, Yorinobu did nothing wrong

It's cause you play as the antagonist. V fricks up everyone, and everything he touches. Hell, you have ANOTHER antagonist in your head.

It's great. You play the villain and the ending is you die, maybe you frick the lot lizard, or maybe you roll a chick with a penis and futa frick the lesbian asian who's roleplaying as a spanish gang-banger.

Adam Smasher was the good guy.

      >The real villain is Arasaka or corpo's in general if you want to be real basic.
the corps and government are completely morally neutral
not sure if you caught this but every single implant and whatever that you buy is made by one of the corps
corpo lifepath is just American Psycho, everyone's life is exactly as meaningless as the "underlings"
Adam Smasher is essentially what you'd become if you follow the corpo path without getting axed by Arasaka in the beginning, just a hitman underling
the villain in CP2077 is the human condition, as shit as that concept is

at what point does degeneration of society become the corps' responsibility?
you have people gutting each other for implants then going to frick parlors and gooning in time dilation
assassinating rival board members and waging corporate wars is natural selection, it's not like anyone in the corporations ever verbalizes anything other than "i mean it's my job, I'm fricked if I don't" or "this will be really good for my career"
machiavellianism isn't evil, it's just socially pathologic

Here's the recipe for making a good villain:
    >have them thrash the player in the start of the game
That's it, that's literally all you need. Then the player is driven by desire for vengeance the rest of the way.

You are literally just talking about Eredin and Adam Smasher being sub par. It's because they were villains of the main quest and they didn't really make the main quest all about them or ran out of time. Villains like Imlerith and the Crones were good as they got way more interaction.
Master Mirror was great as the story was entirely driven by his villainy from start to finish and you get to take to him a lot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeaQHdLhoZk

OP is one of those childbrained frickwits whose concept of good writing comes from childrens' cartoons where a "good" villain is cartoonishly evil and constantly shows up throughout the entire run.
