maybe those youtubers actually do it in their spare time, but for the goldfish brained masses with short attention spam they opt for something wacky and with bright colours that looks silly and attracts clicks.

A lot of people I know recently got into Souls because of the Skyrim level hype around Elden Ring (funny how they never bothered to even try it when I was the only person telling them that Souls good. I guess an e-celeb shill's word is more important) and they all just keep making meme shit, mismatch clothes and look up meta. Which made me wonder if they even care about immersing themselves into the world and trying to pick apart the lore. I'll see what they do with Dragon's Dogma 2, which is also on their radar.

I do think iwht games like souls it's just after playing through the games 7 times you just kinda start doing whatever silly stuff to have a new experience

it's a defense mechanism employed by people who aren't actually interested in playing the game
they make a stupid character so they can pretend they're not taking it seriously, but these types are always the ones who get the most upset about dying and aren't having any fun even when they're winning

whatever it is, they're not actually interested in immersing in the world or engaging any of the content of the game itself, they just want to get it over with so they can say they played dark souls or get to the pvp so they can do the meme they saw in the youtube video

This is mostly a streamer thing because when yous stream you play a game AND entertain an audience, character creation is an involved and lengthy process that isn't inherently entertaining so if you have an audience to maintain you'll either do something stupid with it or skip it entirely
true roleplaying unironically requires high IQ and empathy (to envision a character outside of yourself, and how this character would act in X situation and why, rather than how you would)
most npcs simply dont have this ability, especially sensor scum
I don't use character creators, but I'll pick the wildest, ugliest class out there. There's enough games whee I can just be some bloke. There's so few games where I can be Shrek, the cowardly lion or gill-man the land fish

This is what social media and the constant need for external validation has done to people's minds and emotions. When everyone has access to a giant megaphone, then everyone becomes very afraid of everyone else's opinions. A life/world ruled by fear is one devoid of love. Fear is the true opposite of love, not hate. Hate is just a variant of love because you can't hate something unless you care about it.

Content creators started doing it for LE WACKY FUNNY views and iPad kids grew up watching and idolizing them. There is no alternative for them, it's the hip and cool way to play vidya and everything else is for losers.

The only character creator character I liked was the one I made in Nioh 2 and maybe the one from Dragon's Dogma. The rest I hid behind helmets.
that's mostly speedrunners and mainly when they're playing FromSoft games. Even for Nioh 2 people were making actual cool-looking characters. Now don't ask me why, cause I have no idea. I made my Dark Souls 1-3 characters cool-looking, and my Bloodborne character was made to look like my gf this was so she'd mind less that I'd spend so many hours playing and it actually kinda worked, kek
