Its odd, her face isn't anywhere near that shape in the first game, I'm playing it now. I don't see why they changed it that way, As far as playing other characters, in the first game you play as her a bit and miles before he gets his powers, its not horrid or anything . MJ is basically sneaking around and you have to cause distractions with lure things she got from Peter , and then you can call Spider Man to drop in and take out the guy once he's lured out of the way. Eventually you do that a few time, peter talks her through defusing a bomb and then its back to playing as spiderman. Miles sneaks through an area at one point and then gets fricked over trying to escape, but the point is at this point he doesn't have any powers and its the terrorist attack that ends up killing his dad, so you're not supposed to feel powerful, its just another angle for the story and doesn't go on too long.
When I finish SM Remastered and maybe Miles Morales, I'll have to give SM2 a try because it really seems like they added some neat stuff,but also totally fricked up a lot of the plot/character elements and othergarbage unfortunately. By the time I'm ready to play it either an official PC port will be available or the Brazil PC mod will be pretty close to perfect given how they're at 1.4.x so far and its apparently 100% playable with a handful of graphic/sound glitches but each builds fixes more.
I didn't care for playing as her in 1 but then again her best mission was Grand Central in where you could basically sic SM on guards all over. If there was more of that, I could get behind that.
