thats exactly what he is talking about anon, the massive filtering quake supposes for people who have never played it. Tried to get a friend of mine into the game back during q3 days and he just got instatly blasted all the time, the skill ceiling is so high that the gap between a new and old player is sometimes enough for people to give up and just not play. Meanwhile you can just log on counter strike and get blasted all the same, but at least you'll casually kill someone every now and then, which is something that doesn't happen in quake.
I started playing q3 on the Dreamcast with a controller. PC players would connect to the DC servers and completely destroy us all the time. There was a player called k1ller who was a fricking beast. I wanted to be as good as him one day so I built my first pc and started practicing 24/7.
I got pretty damn good but that k1ller guy was still unbeatable. He later changed his name to k1llsen and eventually became a quake world champ.
Good times
Shit engine
Shit optimization
Terrible lobby/matchmaking system
No server browsers/community support
Total fricking content drought

It's funny because all my casual friends actually found the rapid pace of killing, getting killed, and instantly respawning to be incredibly refreshing, but the sheer amount of downtime inbetween matches killed all momentum for them.
Pretty much this. The game has an a fricking insane art direction and assets, and some really cool concepts. Roller skating as Slash is one of the coolest fricking movement systems I've got to utilize in an FPS game, but the rest of just doesn't hold up.
It's got nothing to do with the genre being too hard when every other niche competitive sub-genre can sustain healthy populations with new releases (besides RTS games?). There just hasn't been a well packaged arena shooter in fricking forever.
>Shit engine >Shit optimization
Are you kidding? I could run it at consistent 60+ FPS on my old ass i5 6400 + R9 380. The game is superbly optimized.
Pretty much agree on everything else though.
It ran fine for me too, but there are numerous reports of it not working on hardware it should work on, and ridiculous fluctuations between updates. Combine that with a perpetual early access state and people simply stopped giving a frick one after another.
And I wouldn't be surprised if it the performance is in a much better state right now either, but it's very much a too little too late scenario especially given that Bethesda has completely abandoned the fricking game.
Apex Legends is a smash hit a quarter of the cast doesn't even work properly with one character having her core mechanic absolutely unusable for a random amount of time. Every other patch shooting hit reg breaks and people bexome invulnerable.
The game was actually good, but the technical issues were amateurish as frick. It didn't even work properly for the longest time. It got tiresome after awhile, to wait for the bare minimum to work and the content to roll out.
youre fricking lying. it had a huge memory leak problem for quite a bit of its life. you could only play 1-5 games before having to restart the program. i believe thats fixed now but its too late.
because they took the worst part of hero shooters, the ultimates, and crammed it into a game that doesnt need them at all and then you made it run like shit with shit map design
also locking CPMA movement to different characters instead of simply being on or off for everyone
and also characters having different stats and not just being a different model
Go play Quake Live Clan Arena into perpetuity, grandpa.
Although I will say I think all the abilities should have been focused on utility, with the damage they deal (if any) being secondary. Stuff like Slash's plasma trail, Athena's grappling hook, Visor's wallhacks and to a lesser extent Ranger's teleport orb are good examples of utility > outright damage. Deathknight's fireballs and Keel's grenades are examples of bad abilities where the utility use is minimal to non-existent; they're just raw damage increases with minimal effort on top of what you're putting out with your weapons.
Damaging abilities are okay it was just stuff like Deathknight and Sorlag's were way overtuned with the direct damage they did. That's been toned down thankfully and should act more like area denial than anything else. Also Keel's grenades aren't the easiest thing to land out there plus it's just satisfying to get pineapples.
I used to do cheeky shit with Keel where I'd get into people's faces and combo them with a point-blank rocket + grenade. If it didn't kill them directly it was very liable to send them flying off the map depending on where they were standing.
because they took the worst part of hero shooters, the ultimates, and crammed it into a game that doesnt need them at all and then you made it run like shit with shit map design
Factually wrong and you didn't even played the game
Had serious detection problems and performance issues, but the characters were great and the entry "barrier" is the copest of copes people auto reply to not feel left out.
>p, but when great players are practically playing a different game from the new players, it's pretty demoralizing.
I wouldn't say git gud often, but this applies so hard
This ain't Starcraft or a flying sim. It's Quake. shoot the fricker down. It's not even that fricking hard, people just are whiny little b***hes.
when i play quake i have alot of fun and if my internet was less shit id play it regularly despite my lack of any skill, but im not going to pretend that it can be a bit discouraging when you're really new.

>It's Quake. shoot the fricker down.
Good players can dismantle bad or new players so hard that it's not even funny. With that said, the average player skill in Quake is so low that it's not a real problem.
>With that said, the average player skill in Quake is so low that it's not a real problem.
This is true i mean any ANY game has people too good. You gotta either play in the kindergarden or keep trying and get good.

compare quake to cs
in cs you can get a lucky shot, an unlucky timing for the enemy etc which gives you i'd say a ~5% chance to beat a much better player
in quake you being just 10% better than someone will end in a blowout for you, because its exactly not "shoot the fricker down", quake is like choking someone out slowly if theyre near in skill level and a complete blowout if theyre apart

Being in a duel where you are completely outmatched is like playing a horror game. In fact its scarier than most horror games
You keep hearing the occasional footstep and item being collected then suddenly you get jumpscared and demolished without a chance of hitting back
>p, but when great players are practically playing a different game from the new players, it's pretty demoralizing.

They should have just left it at "passive" abilities that are just movement related. Those were actually good. Quake doesn't need 'active' abilities, especially ones like Sorlag, death knight etc that are just a panic button for shit players
>people who like quake still play QL
And people who don't like Quake play Clan Arena, and all anyone plays in Australia is fricking Clan Arena. I'm sick and tired of that fricking gay-ass no respawn round-based trash gamemode. Say what you will about QC, at least it didn't have CA for the longest time so people HAD to play other gamemodes. Shit, even when Diabotical came out people here STILL only played it's CA equivalent, or the pregame FFA mode where you started with every weapon. Frick AFPS gays, they're brainrotted boomers who can't handle having to search the map for weapons, health and armour.
This is the big one for me. >play quake >have fun even if im getting absolutely shit on >game over >have to search for a game for another 3+ mins and then load in
Matches aren't that long and spending so much time in loading screens and queues kills the fricking fun momentum
Also the shit performance at launch turned a lot of people off.
The quake remastering got 2k concurrent players injected into the game for a period. If they decided to throw some support the QCs way and jiggered the menus to be less shitty a f2p quake should have some more population in it.
I thought it was a pretty great game. A modernization of the arena formula which isn't bad in itself. What they had there was pretty solid it just need balancing is all. Unfortunately technical incompetency on Saber's part and the autistic nature of Arena fans kinda doomed it from the start. Sadly it's just gonna be Quake Live until the end of time because everybody refuses to move on.
>Why did you take this away from me?
the only person that took this away from you is timmy swine, making a niche multiplayer game egs exclusive was a death sentence
going with egs was the only way to finish the game and have decent launch, it was never going to ever compete with ´bethesda, it was fun while it lasted, admittably much more fun than QC but everybody knew it was a seasonal thing
I'll play this any day than Infinite but I lose interest in playing it as I have to wait five minutes to get into the menu for some reason. Jesus fricking christ
arena shooter fans are massive posers rivaled only by KOF fans.
numerous fricking games and they all die within a month or two. Quake Live, Toxikk, Tribes, Diabotical, Doom 2016, Xonotic, UT4, DUSK, Serious Sam 3, and etc. were all throwbacks died within a month or two flat.
Even the OG games died after a year or two relatively, despite what anybody says otherwise. Most people only stuck around for mods.
maybe arena shooter fans didn't like it because it's not an arena shooter >uses overwatch-style ultimates, characters have different stats and abilities
not an arena shooter unless everyone is on 100% equal footing upon spawning.
Quakelive was big during its browser days and when it got to steam everyone that had a an account got it for free and transferred.
Like the entire Quake 3 playerbase at the time.
You can't just call a game dead when you mean "I don't like this game and neither should you"
750 daily peak is far from dead, I played tribes on steam when it had <100 daily peak for years every day, not only does quake have smaller lobbies, it can even function with a lobby size of 2
Hard and fast paced. Name one popular fast paced game. Anything faster than a lesuirely stroll is considered too much for the modern gamer and they tend to go braindead due to me tal stack.
Playing Quake is like cracking open a fifty year old bottle of scotch. It's great for a few sips, then you finish the drink and realize you could have just bought a cheaper bottle for the similar effect and not feel bad when mixing it to make it better.
Quake Champions is just boring dm with no way to customize anything. Quake 1-3 was so fun because of all the mods and custom models and shit. Without it, no one really gives a frick about Quake. Today I still like Q3A but I still liked playing the mods hundreds of times more. What does Quake Live give you apart from matchmaking, when pub stomping was the only real fun to have in these games with near instant load times and no waiting queues? Even Half-Life 2 mods that are out RIGHT NOW have more players than Quake Champions. Fricking Zombie Panic might have more players. It's sad but it's the truth, arena shooters are just fricking boring and no one really gives a shit about them but autists. Why do you think UT3 and Nu-Unreal just ate shit while Fortnite got popular?
Fortnite has baby collecting basedboys like. All the popular games have a ton of padding to postpone confrontation. Quake had a ton of engagement which is overwhelming and you lose all your shit on death and respawn at a huge disadvantage
Yeah, but when you die in that trash game you just start over and at least it's a level playing field each time. No one likes being farmed by someone going 20 and 1, it's boring.
Yeah that's the point. People hate losing momentum and snowballing because most lack the intelligence and willpower to comeback with pure skill. You either restart the game or create comeback mechanics
>months pass >feel like playing quake champions >go to install >30GB >no longer feel like playing quake champions
Many such cases. Nowadays, if I want matches with randos, I get enough success with Open Fortress and Xonotic during peak hours. If I want to play with friends, I've got enough for 8p FFA in Unreal Tournament and Descent 3. I don't have to deal with the hassle of playing Quake Champions, so I choose not to.
stop. don't dig this game up. it has been dead since the 2017 qcon when that greasy ass kid that puts the monitor 1 inch from his face won it all. they don't own the source and thus can't fix it after they fired saber. its over.

Small scale pure skill arena games are a dead genre. People want more progression, more freedom and some randomness, hence all the popular multiplayer genres of today.
>Embarrassingly bad engine >Load screens after load screens >No continuous lobbies (this is by far one of the most moronic mistakes) >Huge bloat on game files >RAM leaks every other patch >Timed duel took way too long to get added
So many suicidal decisions made by Saber. I remember one dev explaining the lack of continuous lobbies was so that streamers have a chance to interact with chat.
>I remember one dev explaining the lack of continuous lobbies was so that streamers have a chance to interact with chat.
oh god thats so fricking moronic
also >compiling shaders, please wait for up to 15 minutes, at random, with no workaround
it's fricking embarrassing how much time you spend loading compared to actual playtime >launch the game >anywhere between 1 and 3 minutes before it starts up >main menu >SEASON 69 PASS NOW AVAILABLE GARGLE MORE CUM AND BUY IT NOW >dismiss >press play >select whatever modes >FINDING MATCH >3 minutes later >WHOOOPAPOOM MATCH FOUND >vote on gamemode >vote on map >if you're on duel, spend extra time with picks and bans >loading match >loading map >warmup/waiting for more players to join before match starts >not enough players to start >booted back to lobby
>>No continuous lobbies (this is by far one of the most moronic mistakes)
This right here is what made me drop the game after spending 300h on it. The time you spent staring at menus was insultingly long.

you can't just say every game you don't like is dead game
Not him, but I'm also curious as to what you mean. Are you talking about the health pips?
The technical issues are far too prevalent for me to ever even notice these issues.
if you like duel quake, hp and armor pickup changes fricked the core game balance that maps and weapons had been designed around since the beginning of time. keep in mind that's not even getting into topics like half baked weapon nerfs or the inherent balance problems that come with selectable characters having different movesets
>railgun nerf >lg nerf >plasma/nails nerf >damage reduction (scarborough, clutch), invulnerability (nyx), full heals (Black personki) >health and armor healing only to a full fricking "pip" and only existing in the form of red/mega and 25 hp/armor, so no shards/5hp pickups
don't even try and defend active abilities because there is not a single one that's fun to fight against >wallhack >double damage >invulnerability/invisbility >damage shield >damage reduction getaway >aimbot turret >grenade spam >teleport/free instant kill at point blank >full heal + max hp increase >invisible proximity mine traps >wallhack + dot + blind, twice (DK + sorlag) >wallhack + suicide bomber you can barely see

Because trying to get into the game is literal hell. You have people who know every single mechanic and map layout by their autistic heart and can literally kill anyone in less then a second. A new player experiencing that in the first handful of matches will just quit because its clearly too late for them to join in and learn how the game works in a way that isn't just throwing yourself in a raging fire and hoping you manage to come out unscathed.
I liked the game and still do, but I'm simply saying a new player would very likely get demoralized very quickly and ultimately just quit. Also the load times were so fricking bad I eventually just stopped playing because I got sick of them.
because it's hard. I'm not saying this as an elitist or anything but most people don't want to play a game where they have to spend months before they stop getting rekt in 5 seconds.

ignore him, clearly moronic. the player numbers for this game are the only objective fact needed, but they will still ignore that and say the game is good. quake 4 was even better than this shitshow, and THAT was horrendous.

Player numbers only tell you people just dont want to play Q3 clones anymore.
Take any half working half assed survival game and it will have 100x the players with half the effort
>rockets still fly past you then teleport connect >you still die to rails after teleporting >rockets still take an age to come out >splash damage and knockback feels random because of how bad projectiles are
QC is fricking trash anon. Always has been, always will. It was made by poor as frick russians
>wiggling your mouse around to quadruple LG efficiency >nails and rockets straight up doing no damage on direct hits >getting hit by rail that was fired before you entered a teleporter and dying AFTER you exit the teleporter
>let alone their netcode if you think this
I was playing the game when it was in the fricking game you idiot, and yes it was removed after people won thousands of dollars using it. you're the one that says everyone here know snothing about netcode when the game still has issues with rockets, nails, rails and the lightning gun still. oh yeh and you're disdain for youtube....it took a youtuber posting about how the fps affected fire rate for them to separate it.
DB > QC >db has better maps >db has better rule sets >db has better lobby/pickup system >db has beter matchmaking >db has better huds >db has a map editor >db has custom server settings support >db has threaded input >db has better mouse config support >db has better crosshair support >db has better sound >db has racing >db has better dev support >db has endless lobbies >db has better frame pacing
in all measures, diabotical is the better game
oh my fricking god you reminded me that LG did like half the damage if the game was running sub 60 and was completely unusable at 30
numbers might be off but it was fricking horrible
Because it has no appeal to anyone but boomers and it pissed off those boomers when it first released when the heroes had too much of an emphasis. The current version has the heroes much more in the background and is much better but a lot of people still have a bad taste in their mouths and the true Quake boomers would never like the heroes anywat no matter how they're implemented. lt's a really good game, but it just doesn't appeal to the vast majority of gamers and not even to a big part of the Quake fanbase.
Because the truth is that arena shooters are stale as frick. How many times is Quake III gonna get remade before people realize people just dont wanna play that game?
QC had some issues like the engine, some heroes being a pita etc but it would have succeeded if people were that keen to play Q3
Q3 is pretty much a perfect game but its also exhausting. You can't really specialize like you can in other games, there are no "easy" playstyles like spam decks, cheesing, or playing an easy champion. Its more like chess in the sense you are either good or bad with little way to get around it and little theory crafting to do outside the game (which is usually the kind of things that get you thinking about the game and booting it up when you get home)
Also fails to engage the casual crowd. Most popular competitive games have a big casual playerbase that are terrible at the game. Quake games could sustain it in the 90s but they can't now
For me it's because it isn't Quake. It's a hero arena shooter wearing the flayed skin of Quake. They should've just made Quake with modern graphics. Simple as.
trying to adapt afps to the modern release formula doesnt work
ditch season passes, medals, detailed stats, rankings, esports bullshit and just let people freely join/leave ffa/tdm/ctf on classic fun maps, leave all the autistic bullshit for duel which is objectively the least fun gamemode
>nobody has said server side LG is good >you have less hours than me in QC >its been demonstrated multiple times ITT QC is a broken pile of shit >QC is a literal downgrade from QL in every capacity
Listen, theres just something better about an arena shooter
like a fighting game, the only reason you arent doing better is because you havent played enough. other shooters now a days are just too demanding and hand holding at the same time
750 daily peak is insanely good for a small game like this, I played Tribes for years when it had less than 100 daily peak and the server size is 32 players compared to max 16 in QC
>Why is it dead?
because it's dogshit, abilities and varied hitboxes make this game unfun, not to mention this game had completely moronic duel format for a long time. no grenade launcher allegedly due to spam but they later added this moronic tri shot something which is even more spammy. sounds and announcer are ugly as frick. no "classic" mode. add lack of customization of hud and graphics and here you go, the worst quake game up to day.
literally no reason to play this when ql and cpma exist
tim tried to pull both boomer and zoomer audience and ended up pulling neither
Dunno man, I don't really get excited about arena shooters anymore. I used to play these type of games a lot during the early 00s. I download the game, jump into a deathmatch game, blast people for 30 minutes, think it was fun and then for some reason never play the game again.
I just find games like Warzone or objective-based games like Hell Let Loose way more interesting.
Arena fans are the most stubborn, dug in fans in Vidya. Anything that comes out is doomed to die because it's not Q3A or UT2004, and if it is a carbon copy, then why bother because I already have the original?
>shit engine made by literally whos instead of IDTECH >hero shooter in a game that doesnt want it or need it >no 3rd party maps >no 3rd party mods >shit maps >a myriad of technical issues >shitty management that failed to capitalise on its launch or essentially any publicity >million dollar tournaments while still in early access
the list goes on and on and has been done to death in the last 2 years or so, its dead and SyncError killed it.
I had my fun with quake champions. Played 700 hours in the first few years. It was fun as a casual tdm arena shooter. Obviously not as good as q3. Saber bullshit killed it and them not adding real rocket/clan arena killed it for good for most people. even back then no one liked 1vs1. community was never as "hardcore" as it would liked, the majority prefered casual ra3map1/11 for all eternity.
Just make quake a single player series going forward. arena shooter tards will cry about any game that's not a quake 3 clone and the game will die. Nobody plays arena fps. Not even arena fps gays
it's not going below 750 daily peak for years on now, and 750 is more than enough for a niche genre, there are fg's that are considered popular that get less than that
In other words, you can't just say a game is dead when you mean you didn't like it and neither should anyone else
It's dead. It was intended to be a heavily monetized hero shooter and failed. Having less than 1k players for a hero shooter isn't something to brag about
>It was intended to be a heavily monetized hero shooter and failed
they completely misunderstood their audience and vastly overestimated its appeal to normies, quakers dont give a shit about cosmetics and normies cant into arena shooters because they dont want to take the time to get over the initial skill gap and would rather frick around in fortnight or whatever is popular, its a shame really as it looks like it was the last real shot at an arena shooter and its dead, perhaps a SP Quake sequel could do something.

Good times
being better than that shit isnt enough, it needs to be GOOD
like a normal arena shooter, and not stuck in EA hell, with gimped mechanics, engine, and monetization.
Shit engine
Shit optimization
Terrible lobby/matchmaking system
No server browsers/community support
Total fricking content drought
No advertising
>Shit engine
>Shit optimization
It runs decent but the loading times are abysmal. 1+ minute loading time for a match that takes 5 minutes at most is just too much.
60 fps is about third of the fps you need at the minimum for mp fps
engine includes netcode genius
Apex Legends is a smash hit a quarter of the cast doesn't even work properly with one character having her core mechanic absolutely unusable for a random amount of time. Every other patch shooting hit reg breaks and people bexome invulnerable.
For me, it's Xonotic.
It's too late now, but they need to take it out of Early Access.
But I just finished playing a set with a friend and it was just fine? Bad region?
They did had a good game going on but the technical issues killed it
It's not about the arena fps excuses, or about the champions having different abilities, it was pure old school Saber incompetence.
Infinite is dead bro
>infinite matchmaking: 20-60s
>QC matchmaking: 5-10min
The game was actually good, but the technical issues were amateurish as frick. It didn't even work properly for the longest time. It got tiresome after awhile, to wait for the bare minimum to work and the content to roll out.
Basically what happened to Halo Infinite
this. i remember when the closed beta dropped and you had to use fraps or dxtory to limit the frame rate in the menus or else the game would crash.
Slash is CUTE.
This is bullshit.
I played both beta tests and launch and the game was smooth as frick.
I would be playing it right now if the servers weren't dead. It was great
5 mintues for a game isnt dead
You are bullshit it had framedrops, bad netcode for the longest time, 0 damage rockets
youre fricking lying. it had a huge memory leak problem for quite a bit of its life. you could only play 1-5 games before having to restart the program. i believe thats fixed now but its too late.
slash is the most fun i had with movement in a fps game in YEARS
because they took the worst part of hero shooters, the ultimates, and crammed it into a game that doesnt need them at all and then you made it run like shit with shit map design
also locking CPMA movement to different characters instead of simply being on or off for everyone
and also characters having different stats and not just being a different model
I miss release strogg where you could suicide bomb all your enemies with the drone, that was some funny shit
wait, you can't do that anymore?
fricking morons hating fun
too hard to get into for most, also it's lack of advertising, tech issues and the splitting of arena FPS into 30 games doesn't help.
Factually wrong and you didn't even played the game
Had serious detection problems and performance issues, but the characters were great and the entry "barrier" is the copest of copes people auto reply to not feel left out.
the abilities help, but when great players are practically playing a different game from the new players, it's pretty demoralizing.
the game has matchmaking.
litearlly just get gud
just started getting into quake in general a month ago and I'm already a cut above most players
when i play quake i have alot of fun and if my internet was less shit id play it regularly despite my lack of any skill, but im not going to pretend that it can be a bit discouraging when you're really new.
>p, but when great players are practically playing a different game from the new players, it's pretty demoralizing.
I wouldn't say git gud often, but this applies so hard
This ain't Starcraft or a flying sim. It's Quake. shoot the fricker down. It's not even that fricking hard, people just are whiny little b***hes.
>It's Quake. shoot the fricker down.
You keep hearing the occasional footstep and item being collected then suddenly you get jumpscared and demolished without a chance of hitting back
nah. ultimates are gay
They should have just left it at "passive" abilities that are just movement related. Those were actually good. Quake doesn't need 'active' abilities, especially ones like Sorlag, death knight etc that are just a panic button for shit players
someone told me the only people who play it are russian boomers
the game is bad. people who like quake still play QL
>people who like quake play QL
lol, QL nerfed the railgun to not be an instant kill on unarmored people, which is the entire point of the railgun
>people who like quake still play QL
And people who don't like Quake play Clan Arena, and all anyone plays in Australia is fricking Clan Arena. I'm sick and tired of that fricking gay-ass no respawn round-based trash gamemode. Say what you will about QC, at least it didn't have CA for the longest time so people HAD to play other gamemodes. Shit, even when Diabotical came out people here STILL only played it's CA equivalent, or the pregame FFA mode where you started with every weapon. Frick AFPS gays, they're brainrotted boomers who can't handle having to search the map for weapons, health and armour.
>no mod support
>no dedicated servers
There is a reason why the old Quakes are still alive and this is dead.
>takes minutes to boot up the game
>takes minutes to find match
>takes minutes to load up the map and start the match, on SSD no less
This is the big one for me.
>play quake
>have fun even if im getting absolutely shit on
>game over
>have to search for a game for another 3+ mins and then load in
Matches aren't that long and spending so much time in loading screens and queues kills the fricking fun momentum
Also the shit performance at launch turned a lot of people off.
The quake remastering got 2k concurrent players injected into the game for a period. If they decided to throw some support the QCs way and jiggered the menus to be less shitty a f2p quake should have some more population in it.
no porn
>2022
>still no Galena game
Horribly optimized and it takes way too long to get in the game and once you do it's nothing but old autists who've been playing Quake 3 for 20 years.
You'd think the one thing Quake would have is optimization. was it actually made by ID or the B team?
It's Saber interactive. The stupid homosexuals didn't even add Vulkan support.
WHAT
THEY LET ANYONE BUT ID TOUCH QUAKE
THOSE FRICKS
are you a zoomer?
i plead the fifth.
yes, now yell at me.
And Quake 4 was a piece of shit too...
no it wasnt
A multiplayer Quake can't get better than Quake 3, which people still play.
The fans of Quake 3 aren't interested in QC. There's no need.
Matchmaking only + small playerbase = dead game.
It's literally filled with hackers and no one gets banned.
>Absolutely 0 casual/fun modes
>hero shooter
>microtransactions
quake is dead
Why did you take this away from me? Matchmaking is 1hr+
>Why did you take this away from me?
the only person that took this away from you is timmy swine, making a niche multiplayer game egs exclusive was a death sentence
going with egs was the only way to finish the game and have decent launch, it was never going to ever compete with ´bethesda, it was fun while it lasted, admittably much more fun than QC but everybody knew it was a seasonal thing
>going with egs was the only way to finish the game
what's the point of releasing a multiplayer game if only 8 guys ever played it?
>what's the point of releasing a multiplayer game if only 8 guys ever played it?
it was way popular at launch
let's see the numbers
oh, wait
?
you say it was popular, let's see the alltime high for concurrent players
it was popular and anyone who played it at launch can attest, if you don't want to believe me then you don't have to
so you have nothing, got it
yep, just my anecdotal evidence of playing the game for 200hrs
>200 hours
>since launch
You were talking about the launch, what do you mean
been enjoying the piss out of the game recently.
hoping they announce something for Quake Con next month
my old bones need this
I'll play this any day than Infinite but I lose interest in playing it as I have to wait five minutes to get into the menu for some reason.
>>>/vm/
>Doom 2016
didn't that only have the demon vs slayer mode thing?
Doom 2016 had a traditional multiplayer, Eternal is the one with only a demon vs slayer mode
oooh gotcha
Pretty sure Doom 2016 had loadouts.
maybe arena shooter fans didn't like it because it's not an arena shooter
>uses overwatch-style ultimates, characters have different stats and abilities
not an arena shooter unless everyone is on 100% equal footing upon spawning.
arena shooter != quake clone bro
every single arena shooter follows those rules until these modern "arena shooters" started coming out
so? in dm and duel the balance flies out the window after the first frag. why cling to the old mechanics that serve almost no function?
But Kof has 500 man tournaments.
Every time I try to play that I get shit on.
Quake is insanely overrated & that one runs so poorly I consider it malware.
normies hate quake since they cant camp
>months pass
>feel like playing quake champions
>go to install
>30GB
>no longer feel like playing quake champions
Many such cases. Nowadays, if I want matches with randos, I get enough success with Open Fortress and Xonotic during peak hours. If I want to play with friends, I've got enough for 8p FFA in Unreal Tournament and Descent 3. I don't have to deal with the hassle of playing Quake Champions, so I choose not to.
stop. don't dig this game up. it has been dead since the 2017 qcon when that greasy ass kid that puts the monitor 1 inch from his face won it all. they don't own the source and thus can't fix it after they fired saber. its over.
chinese spyware
its not unreal tournament
Because it's a shitty game that pleases no one. Too hard too normies and too zoomerfied for boomers
QC is an abomination.
Frick sinkerror.
Zoomers don't like arena shooters and boomers don't like microtransactions, cosmetics and hero abilities in their arena shooters.
top 10 list of shit things about quake champions
1. dynamic weapon switching speed
2. starter shotgun doesn't upgrade instantly to super shotgun upon pickup, fricking the firing rhythm up
3. dynamic weapon switching speed
4. ghost walk
5. ghost walk
6. interpolation on rockets
7. networking problems
8. quake 2-3 movement is fricking stupid clunky moronation, only the cpma and crouch slide characters are fun
9. ghost walk
10. the tri-bolt doesn't do 45 damage per hit
11. there isn't a weaker tri-bolt that you can spawn with which is identical to the current one that you get and also you get the nailgun too because who the frick would pick the nailgun starter by itself
12. ghost walk
13. no painkiller movement character
14. unreal tournament movement character is too fat
15. lockout time on acid spit makes me upset
16. ghost walk
i used to play this game so much, then about 2 years ago i stopped playing because i gave up hope on the devs ever completing it. only check it out from time to time and everytime, i'm depressed it has barely anything added
DBT was better
>le overwatch but with wacky featureless blobs
nah, it fricking sucked and i'm glad it flopped
it was way better than QC
no it wasn't, 2gdBlack person
EGS exclusivity was just a rotten cherry on top of that pile of shit
moron cope
>exclusive to the Fortnite launcher
Who thought that would work?
>launcher "exclusivity"
are you moronic
b
Small scale pure skill arena games are a dead genre. People want more progression, more freedom and some randomness, hence all the popular multiplayer genres of today.
core gameplay is absolutely fire, but the client and everything surrounding it is ass
also no dedicated servers
no community maps
>Embarrassingly bad engine
>Load screens after load screens
>No continuous lobbies (this is by far one of the most moronic mistakes)
>Huge bloat on game files
>RAM leaks every other patch
>Timed duel took way too long to get added
So many suicidal decisions made by Saber. I remember one dev explaining the lack of continuous lobbies was so that streamers have a chance to interact with chat.
>I remember one dev explaining the lack of continuous lobbies was so that streamers have a chance to interact with chat.
oh god thats so fricking moronic
it's because it's made up
also
>compiling shaders, please wait for up to 15 minutes, at random, with no workaround
it's fricking embarrassing how much time you spend loading compared to actual playtime
>launch the game
>anywhere between 1 and 3 minutes before it starts up
>main menu
>SEASON 69 PASS NOW AVAILABLE GARGLE MORE CUM AND BUY IT NOW
>dismiss
>press play
>select whatever modes

>3 minutes later
>WHOOOPAPOOM MATCH FOUND
>vote on gamemode
>vote on map
>if you're on duel, spend extra time with picks and bans
>loading match
>loading map
>warmup/waiting for more players to join before match starts
>not enough players to start
>booted back to lobby
>duel
>not enough players to start
Holy shit it's dead.
it can literally happen if your opponent crashes mid-load, which isn't all that rare
true
that's all minor. i think they just need to change the monetization system again to bring people back.
>>No continuous lobbies (this is by far one of the most moronic mistakes)
This right here is what made me drop the game after spending 300h on it. The time you spent staring at menus was insultingly long.
>one dev explaining the lack of continuous lobbies was so that streamers have a chance to interact with chat
holy fricking shit
can a dev be more of a simp
I tried to play it, hard fun, but im too old to get good.
im 31 and still learning
how old is too old
im 27 and i feel the age anon. Reactions are slower, I get stuck on level geometry i wouldve jumped around before, i miss shots i shouldve hit, i forget timers. I choke where i succeeded before.
most likely you were never good to begin with, i'm older than you and i can get 160-170ms reaction easily, plus top players are all over 30
I never played FPS when I was young. Thats why I had to learn
>ruin damage system
>ruin items
>add press x to awesome
>wtf why is the new quake dead guise someone explain
>ruin damage system
what damage system
>ruin items
you mean pickups? how
>add press x to awesome
passives are by far more important than actives
>wtf why is the new quake dead guise someone explain
you can't just say every game you don't like is dead game
>>Why is it dead?
>hurrdurr you cant just say every game you don't like is dead game
>what damage system
please be bait
I thought you were baiting, but now I know for sure
Not him, but I'm also curious as to what you mean. Are you talking about the health pips?
The technical issues are far too prevalent for me to ever even notice these issues.
if you like duel quake, hp and armor pickup changes fricked the core game balance that maps and weapons had been designed around since the beginning of time. keep in mind that's not even getting into topics like half baked weapon nerfs or the inherent balance problems that come with selectable characters having different movesets
QC is a mess, always has been
>railgun nerf
>lg nerf
>plasma/nails nerf
>damage reduction (scarborough, clutch), invulnerability (nyx), full heals (Black personki)
>health and armor healing only to a full fricking "pip" and only existing in the form of red/mega and 25 hp/armor, so no shards/5hp pickups
don't even try and defend active abilities because there is not a single one that's fun to fight against
>wallhack
>double damage
>invulnerability/invisbility
>damage shield
>damage reduction getaway
>aimbot turret
>grenade spam
>teleport/free instant kill at point blank
>full heal + max hp increase
>invisible proximity mine traps
>wallhack + dot + blind, twice (DK + sorlag)
>wallhack + suicide bomber you can barely see
the only two abilities that arent' a pain in the ass are fricking worthless and might as well not even exist (athena, slash)
>railgun nerf
moron
full shot chargeup just like the tf2 sniper rifle, 100-90-80
were you there for the closed beta
no
Black person
moron
frick off homosexual
rail was nerfed at least 3 times
eat shit with your cherrypicking
here's the (You) you forgot, pussy b***h
I'm not saying this as an elitist or anything but most people don't want to play a game where they have to spend months before they stop getting rekt in 5 seconds.
>writing an essay just to say you didn't play the game
lol
lmao
Ugly artstyle and not as fluid as old Quake/Quake Arena.
he's going all out

The worst fricking part is everything you mentioned could have been solved with a proper engine and some basic fricking effort.
>graphics scaled back for performance
>the worst FPS netcode in existence
you know very little about online multiplayer fps, let alone their netcode if you think this
>he's defending QC netcode
>"netcode is bad"
>lists 3 year old bugs
it should be a requirement to show your hours played and last time played when talking about video games
sure, post examples of the netcode being good
the fact that I can LG an enemy and it hits the enemy instead of having to LG behind the enemy because of serverside hit detection
how about you learn how the words you're trying to use work moron
>learn the words you're trying to use work
the irony
still waiting for proof
post your steam hours and last played
I last played in 2020. The game is fricking trash.
?t=64
hahahaha LG is still 100% client side with no rollback HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>implying server side LG is good
Like I said, you have very low understanding of fps, and netcode things
That's not what I'm implying you colosal moron. I literally mentioned rollback you fricking moron.
>you have very low understanding of fps, and netcode things
You have DEMONSTRATED you don't understand netcode in ANY CAPACITY.
You're defending pure client side hitscan which leads to moronic shit like getting shot behind walls as demonstrated here: https://youtu.be/1zk3s07w744?t=64
have a nice day, you're too fricking brain damaged.
nut up homosexual
>inb4 lmao 200 hours
i have little tolerance for bullshit
inb4 the netcode gets good at 500 hours :^)
just outed yourself as a noob. had this bullshit on the bethesda launcher from the start of the beta. get the frick outta here with your steam hours.
>the fact that I can LG an enemy and it hits the enemy instead of having to LG behind the enemy because of serverside hit detection
you just outed yourself as having no idea what you're talking about
and you're defending QC which everyone (including top players) agrees is trash
ignore him, clearly moronic. the player numbers for this game are the only objective fact needed, but they will still ignore that and say the game is good. quake 4 was even better than this shitshow, and THAT was horrendous.
Player numbers only tell you people just dont want to play Q3 clones anymore.
Take any half working half assed survival game and it will have 100x the players with half the effort
>rockets still fly past you then teleport connect
>you still die to rails after teleporting
>rockets still take an age to come out
>splash damage and knockback feels random because of how bad projectiles are
QC is fricking trash anon. Always has been, always will. It was made by poor as frick russians
>wiggling your mouse around to quadruple LG efficiency
>nails and rockets straight up doing no damage on direct hits
>getting hit by rail that was fired before you entered a teleporter and dying AFTER you exit the teleporter
you never frickin played the game then. someone won one of the first international pro tournaments because of the lightning gun exploit.
was it vengeur?
i recall the dude being very young and new to the scene
wiggle LG hasn't been in the game for 3 years, like I said, you don't play the game and can only parrot youtube videos
>y-you don't play m-muh youtube
i watched this atrocity live and knew that the game was beyond saving
>let alone their netcode if you think this
I was playing the game when it was in the fricking game you idiot, and yes it was removed after people won thousands of dollars using it. you're the one that says everyone here know snothing about netcode when the game still has issues with rockets, nails, rails and the lightning gun still. oh yeh and you're disdain for youtube....it took a youtuber posting about how the fps affected fire rate for them to separate it.
>stop ignoring my bait and give me replies reeee
prove that you're not a larping homosexual and show your closed beta chievos/nameplates
how about you try refuting any of the issues listed instead of backpedalling with LE BAIT XD?
shills never argue in good faith anon

sure it is, James
sure it is
I'm glad you agree.
Based. The game was too advanced and fast for the bethesdazoomers
Shooting robots is far less satisfying than fragging flesh and blood characters, though
this is also what the illfated fanmade UT remake did
featureless humanoid robots as enemies
fricking hell
shit load times and optimization, never bothered to install it cause how heavy it was on hardware compared to ql
stop shilling your dead piece of a Black person flop, 2ghomosexual

i dont get it
is it making fun of qc or dbt fans?
>FPS affects netcode

oh my fricking god you reminded me that LG did like half the damage if the game was running sub 60 and was completely unusable at 30
numbers might be off but it was fricking horrible
>someone is defending QC netcode ITT
> *just one more launcher*
Because it has no appeal to anyone but boomers and it pissed off those boomers when it first released when the heroes had too much of an emphasis. The current version has the heroes much more in the background and is much better but a lot of people still have a bad taste in their mouths and the true Quake boomers would never like the heroes anywat no matter how they're implemented. lt's a really good game, but it just doesn't appeal to the vast majority of gamers and not even to a big part of the Quake fanbase.
How is QC still getting updates?
the west cant make attractive females
shit engine
Quake games could sustain it in the 90s but they can't now
>Why is something produced by Bethesda dead?.
>QC plays like Q3
>chess analogy
that bait is going to hook a lot of people
Tim Willits killed it, like he killed Id
For me it's because it isn't Quake. It's a hero arena shooter wearing the flayed skin of Quake. They should've just made Quake with modern graphics. Simple as.
Why not just play Quake Live in that case?
>with modern graphics
Why not just play Quake Live in that case?
lol esl
>no answer
i accept your concession
unironically learn to read
>still no answer
still accept your concession
>Set the (skill)bar too high
>Why genre dead anon?
?t=5
>please stop playing quake live
>please
hahahahaha
How many here have acually played any arena shooter in the last three months?
I haven't
Be honest. Its not for cred I just think AFPS have a big retention problem
trying to adapt afps to the modern release formula doesnt work
ditch season passes, medals, detailed stats, rankings, esports bullshit and just let people freely join/leave ffa/tdm/ctf on classic fun maps, leave all the autistic bullshit for duel which is objectively the least fun gamemode
Nope I just talk about a game I don't play and claim serverside = LG gud lol
Nobody in this thread is claiming server side LG is good you homosexual
>nobody has said server side LG is good
>you have less hours than me in QC
>its been demonstrated multiple times ITT QC is a broken pile of shit
>QC is a literal downgrade from QL in every capacity
Who are you quoting?
Listen, theres just something better about an arena shooter
like a fighting game, the only reason you arent doing better is because you havent played enough. other shooters now a days are just too demanding and hand holding at the same time
>Its literally better than CoD, Battlefield, infinite.
>not even 6k current players on steam
ok, f4t4l1ty
750 daily peak is insanely good for a small game like this, I played Tribes for years when it had less than 100 daily peak and the server size is 32 players compared to max 16 in QC
please stop coping, this is beyond sad
750 people worldwide is fricking pathetic
how many do you want?
>20+ year old legacy ip
>AAA dev budget
>AAA marketing budget
>massive publisher worth 7.5 billion
>small game like this
Tribes is "legacy IP" as well and you can't even play the game unless you installed it in 2011-2017 because the game is hidden.
Also where did you get the idea that bethesda is putting AAA money into this, the dev team is literally just syncerror
>try to find sauce for budgets
>cant
sorry disregard
I suck dicks
it's fun for 30 minutes, but tf2 is fun for the whole day
>Why is it dead?
because it's dogshit, abilities and varied hitboxes make this game unfun, not to mention this game had completely moronic duel format for a long time. no grenade launcher allegedly due to spam but they later added this moronic tri shot something which is even more spammy. sounds and announcer are ugly as frick. no "classic" mode. add lack of customization of hud and graphics and here you go, the worst quake game up to day.
literally no reason to play this when ql and cpma exist
tim tried to pull both boomer and zoomer audience and ended up pulling neither
You can't just say it's dead when you mean you didn't like it and neither should others.
Dunno man, I don't really get excited about arena shooters anymore. I used to play these type of games a lot during the early 00s. I download the game, jump into a deathmatch game, blast people for 30 minutes, think it was fun and then for some reason never play the game again.
I just find games like Warzone or objective-based games like Hell Let Loose way more interesting.
>people complain about abilities
>they drop a ranger only no abilities mode
>crickets
too little, too late
yeah, i sure do love getting a requested feature 3 years after it was requested
i love quake and didn't even know this was a thing. first time I see a thread about it here. it's normally just persona threads or 2B's ass
Arena fans are the most stubborn, dug in fans in Vidya. Anything that comes out is doomed to die because it's not Q3A or UT2004, and if it is a carbon copy, then why bother because I already have the original?
>shit engine made by literally whos instead of IDTECH
>hero shooter in a game that doesnt want it or need it
>no 3rd party maps
>no 3rd party mods
>shit maps
>a myriad of technical issues
>shitty management that failed to capitalise on its launch or essentially any publicity
>million dollar tournaments while still in early access
the list goes on and on and has been done to death in the last 2 years or so, its dead and SyncError killed it.
>have free and instant access to IDTECH for your shooter
>don't use it
wut
saber doesn't have any right to use IDtech
For some reason I thought it was all under the Bethesda umbrella.
just give me a 24/7 ra3map11 server with people to play 5v5 for eternity please
I had my fun with quake champions. Played 700 hours in the first few years. It was fun as a casual tdm arena shooter. Obviously not as good as q3. Saber bullshit killed it and them not adding real rocket/clan arena killed it for good for most people. even back then no one liked 1vs1. community was never as "hardcore" as it would liked, the majority prefered casual ra3map1/11 for all eternity.
because it's full of autistic crackheads that do nothing but play 24/7. it's not 'fun' playing with such reckless moronation.
Just make quake a single player series going forward. arena shooter tards will cry about any game that's not a quake 3 clone and the game will die. Nobody plays arena fps. Not even arena fps gays
where does this meme even come from? QC is more popular than QL ever was
Nice meme. QC is dead
it's not going below 750 daily peak for years on now, and 750 is more than enough for a niche genre, there are fg's that are considered popular that get less than that
In other words, you can't just say a game is dead when you mean you didn't like it and neither should anyone else
>tldr; game isn't dead because i say so, please come back i don't want to be alone
It's dead. It was intended to be a heavily monetized hero shooter and failed. Having less than 1k players for a hero shooter isn't something to brag about
>It was intended to be a heavily monetized hero shooter and failed
they completely misunderstood their audience and vastly overestimated its appeal to normies, quakers dont give a shit about cosmetics and normies cant into arena shooters because they dont want to take the time to get over the initial skill gap and would rather frick around in fortnight or whatever is popular, its a shame really as it looks like it was the last real shot at an arena shooter and its dead, perhaps a SP Quake sequel could do something.
wasnt the game mode that started you with rail, lightning gun, rocket launcher pretty popular?
yes Clan arena or Rocket arena (original mod)
QC didnt get it for ages , considering that it literally kept Quake alive for decades not including it at launch was a truly surreal design decision.
All their devtime probably went to sculpting Nyx's ass and thats a good thing
you keep saying the game is dead and this isn't even your first post in this thread, move on dude
are you a POE player by any chance? they defend its crap just like you
>Nobody plays arena fps. Not even arena fps gays
there is a reason for this, the primary audience for arena shooters are all pushing 40.
>Hero Shooter #56378
>Why is it dead?
Total Biscuit was right arenagays.
I enjoyed it but like every game that isn’t CoD or Fifa the Australian servers quickly died and I was no longer able to play.
I played it when it went f2p and I liked the actual game but the perfomance and lag was too bad for me
>comes out
>3 maps
>8 characters
>shit netcode
There is only one chance to make a first impression, and they shit the bed.
zoomer mentality and i can't even imagine how many games you've missed out on that were shitshows at launch but now are actually good
