Batman and Spider-Man make good game material because they're actually not that strong (if you don't count their plot-armor). Spiderman has minor super strength, agility, Spider-Sense, and gadgets. Batman is just a genius IQ martial artist with gadgets. Their villains are all complete jobbers.
They are barely super heroes, if you look at it from a DBZ-style 'power level' perspective.
Well yeah, you've got to shake it up sometimes when you've been making multiple monthly comics for decades. I'm sure one time he merged with Uncle Ben's alien clone and could shoot lighting out of his eyes for a while. But the basic concept of Spiderman is that he's not absurdly strong. His usual powers are pretty minor.
cringy fanfic. spidey gets his ass beat by flies and scorpions and octopuses on the regular. he busts up his hand punching an otherwise normal mafia guy with a metal plate in his head.
because EVERY part of development wants it to be the MCU
the costume designers want it to look like the mcu, so they might get a job in a future mcu film
the writers try to quip like the mcu in hopes ogf having a job writing for a mcu film
the publishers demand it be more like the mcu because the mcu makes money
and the devs make it super realistic because comics are fricking lame the mcu is cool
Early 2010s capeshit somehow ended up being unusually decent. >Spectacular Spiderman >Wolverine and the X-Men >EMH >Young Justice
It came just early enough to avoid being bogged down by movie timelines but not too late for people to become fatigued by heroes. The worst part is every show there got cancelled before finishing their storylines.
>Spectacular Spiderman
Oh no need to remind me, it still has one of my favorite Eddie Brock/Venom origins of all time. >Wolverine and the X-Men
It's been a good while since I've seen it, but I remembered liking it and thinking Rogue was a cutie. >Young Justice
It kinda lost some of it's luster in the later seasons, but I thought seasons 1 & 2 were great, and partially filled that void left behind by Teen Titans.
Oh, and Batman: Brave and the Bold is great too. Campy, sure, but it plays into it really well, and I can appreciate the classic designs over modern and their tacticool obsession.
Because once a story becomes a brand, it can never be a story again, and capeshit is 100% a brand.
Anything made in it has to earn billions for stockholders while simultaneously maintaining established canon without resolving any conflicts.
What's the point of beating the Joker if you know he'll be there for the next Batman game, movie or comic anyways? At least non-capeshit stories have closure.
For the same reason all anime games are bad. The source material is trash.
but everyone loves mahvel
man, i imagine mahvel would sell gangbusters if they make is as accessible as sf6 complete with story mode.
It's really not. There's been good Spider-Man and Batman games for years.

That would be moronic. They are superheroes.
Yeah, but they're not that strong by superhero standards which is why they make kino games.
Spiderman once held up a skyscraper, stopped a plane from crashing and fought Phoenix Force empowered mutants.

Spider-Man is. They've made it a point multiple times that he's just holding back.

I thought Injustice was good. Didn't really care for the sequel though, to be honest.
most licensed games are not allotted the budget they need to be good, nor are they ever given to dev studios that care about the source material

Only game I can think of was Marvel's Avengers
>guardians
>spider-man
>midnight sons
all the same, they take comic stories or original stories and just write them like their mcu knock offs.
The only one that worked was spider-man because he is known for his cringy quips and they managed to have good gameplay too
Bamham is pretty good
The ultimate alliance games were all right.
Thought the new Guardians of the Galaxy game was solid enough and even liked by Ganker contrarians.
The opening theme had no business being that good for a kids show.
Wrong reaction image but my point still stands, the song is 10/10.
Marvel cartoons often struck gold with their themes
And ofcourse
I've always been a fan of Spider-Man: Unlimited personally.

I can't forgive Disney for cancelling this and replacing it with Avengers Assemble of all things.
It probably didn't help that they went from Skrull clones as enemies, to Ultron android clones.
Source material quality (the lack thereof)
>Source material quality (the lack thereof)
>Looks a Krakoa, Ninja Punisher and NTR Spiderman.
Yeah...
I want a cel shaded DC game helmed by Paul Dini and crew
Something like BTAB + JLA but in vidya form
