Actually, the whole thing was going to be Aztec- and Dogu-inspired like Huitzil from Darkstalkers.
If they kept this design, it would have been a story about a robot exploring ancient ruins.

It's hard to imagine a world where Klonoa bombed even harder than it did, but that is what would have happened if it stepped on Megaman's toes.

It's the face. Nothing wrong with LV Klonoa besides that, though technically that started in MM (1999) and was (supposedly) done because his big cat eyes seemed scary to some children. I don't hate his new face or anything, and if that was the way Klonoa looked from the start I'd still find his design appealing, but when you look at what we had right before that it's a bit hard for me to not cynically think this is a "We want the Sonic audience" situation.
Very happy they brought back the original in all its glory for PR though, the very few times they acknowledged Klonoa's original design before that it always looked more like the MM design.

Namco's trying hard to push the that Klonoa is Japanese Pac-Man World, and Pac-Man World is American Klonoa. Thus why no physicals for Japan for PMW, and no physicals for America for Klonoa PRS.
But I like both, and cucking me out of one or the other is a dick move, Namco...
