simple the new ARPGS are designed purely to keep you playing so you buy lootboxes. the "endgame" is what killed this genre. Diablo 2 had no endgame and is still loved even today. Now every RPG is just slop to keep you playing forever with constant vertical gearing
"endgame" is an inherently harmful concept, games were not meant to be played infinitely. Once you're done with the content just play another product instead of expecting it to have endless tedious mandatory chores, frick off
So we can finally admit Diablo 1 & 2 are only good for the atmosphere if it's not worth replaying beyond the first playthrough. It's not like the gameplay is deep. Copying builds online isn't deep. RNG placebo stat loot isn't deep. But at least the guitar strings when you're idling in town sound deep. Huh what do you know the games were mid all along.
>if it's not worth replaying beyond the first playthrough.
Sure if you mean >first playthrough on one build and then restarting the game with another build and playing through all of normal, nightmare and hell and repeating
>Diablo 1 & 2 are only good for the atmosphere if it's not worth replaying beyond the first playthrough
No game is ever worth replaying. I always uninstall any game I finish and refuse to ever touch it again. Backtracking is pure cancer on the deepest possible level, I never want to see any content more than once in any video game and that includes playing the game again even if it's 100 years later.
D2 was in my top 5 favorite games of all time. I replayed it few times when Resurrected was released. It's not even close to being as good as I remember.
I actually enjoyed D3 and still re-playing it once in 1-2 years, just create a season character, get some mindless dopamine fun, get bored in 30-50 hours, forget about it for another few years.
And it was fun on release, with all the broken inferno bullshit, you actually had to grind for any gear to sell it on AH, even yellow gear could be super good. Sure it wasn't a masterpiece, but it was engaging, it was virtually the last time any diablo-like game was hard.

even after the mess of 40,000% increased damage sets and legendary pinata I can play and have fun for a week or two on a new season but it doesn't have the long play time as vanilla D2 did for me where rares were the big thing

D3 combat with D2 loot system and D4 graphics and D1 atmosphere would be the perfect Diablo game. Never ever.

yeah the speed and fluidity of d3 felt really nice. I would be fine with d3 graphics but d4's light radius even. I've always played diablo with 3 really good friends and we've long since quit d4 because of how awful it feels.
Replaying games is degenerate
Desing games to be addicting is degenerate
Diablo 2 single player campaign was memorable and moving and nothing your gayot ass says will ever change that or its legacy
The story went from great in the base game to absolutely awful in the expansion. Some skills changed for the worse. Terrible quests (still have nightmares of that one puzzle quest). Actual plot holes - one major artifact is stolen in the original story and no explanation is given at all in the expansion, devs simply forgot about it. The whole thing just felt like padding.
he doesn't actually know because all of his opinions on that game are from a youtube video
Loot in D1 served a concise goal, that is being able to reach bottom of the dungeon and kill The Lord of Terror. In modern ARPGs loot exists as a goal in itself. You get loot so that you can clear a "map" faster and then you get more loot, ad nauseam. Activity only enjoyed by the chinese and spiritual chinese.

It's because of that I unironically believe action rpgs like the Soulshit genre are truer genre evolutions and sequels to the spirit of Pre-Diablo 2.
Because they took the wrong lessons from it and inevitably try to push the genre into the direction of making a D2 but bigger with more enemies, more loot and more over the top skills and it quickly becomes a mindless slop.
They are too easy now. I played Diablo 3. It's even more braindead than Diablo 2. Literally just 'hold mouse button down to win'. Maybe it's just because I was a dumb kid, but I remember changing my strategies and tactics in Diablo 2 based on different situations.
D2 devs made the game they wanted. ARPGs after are made to appease the masses and end up being the worst of all worlds. This isn't unique to ARPGs though. PoE is perhaps an exception, but it has been ruined by moron homosexual chris and his discord troony RMT cartel fantasy, so Jonathan saving the franchise with PoE2 is their only hope.
Only Last Epoch and Diablo 3 are in the same ballpark as Diablo 2. Grim Dawn and Path of Exile are too busy trying to be Titan Quest, which makes them shit. They aren't better than Torchlight 2.
They seek to copy the underlying addictive engineering of what made Diablo 2 wickedly popular, the class-based overhead gameplay, levelling and skills, the loot system and randomisation, and the dark fantasy setting.
But they mostly fail to recognise and respect the exemplary quality of the game's art, sound design, music etc. that transform D2's pipes and gears into something outstanding. Even the narrative and characters, though evidently a lesser design goal as can be discovered by researching the game's development, are woven in such a brilliantly character-driven way.
I have faith that they have realized that PoE has become way too autistic, and they are now trying to tone down a lot of the autism for PoE2, while improving on everything else.
I set myself free from GGG's casino about 18 months ago and completely stopped paying attention to anything they have been doing since then. When I last looked, PoE2 looked pretty much like PoE1 with slightly better skill gem mechanics.
If you have a highlight reel of the big changes they are making, though, I'm all ears.
Why are they called Arpgs? It has to be the biggest misnomer in video games
There's no role playing and the only RPG elements are weapon and character stats, and maybe the camera view
It's like calling STALKER a FPS RPG because it has an inventory
When you think of an action game, it's basically the opposite of an RPG. So the "action" part of ARPG was added because the games played like an RPG, but without the RPG parts, which were replaced by action instead.
the people who make modern video games are here to kill and demoralize white men, rob the world of any quality and creativity, while flooding western countries with shitskin rapists
the western world is being destroyed
Early 2000s: >Killing demons feels good! >Time to save Sanctuary! >Nice music! >Cool spooky atmosphere! >The lore is really interesting! >Look at all these cool skills and spells I can use to defeat the forces of Diablo! >A unique item! Cool! >What a fun game!
201X+: >Gotta speedrun the main quest before the real game can begin >Gotta follow this build guide >Trash unique, doesn't fit my build >baalrun-143
New ARPGs are made by players that fell into the latter camp.
I think you need a fine balance of autist and casual without autist we wouldn't have ever gotten diablo but without casuals it would have been turn based
there is a difference
some autists want to create something because they wanna test their skills and then some artists polish it up and make it cool
then there are the autists that literally cant fathom doing something if its not the optimal way to do it ie meta Black folk
Diablo II wasn't good, it was just new and fresh
ARPGs are shit as a genre and it took a couple of decades to understand that it had long since peaked and now nothing could be done except to rehash the inherently limited ideas used in Diablo II in an attempt to create the most addictive bullshit possible. Nowhere does actual fun come into the equation.
Broken clocks.
But you might have a point. Perhaps my opinion on Diablo II has been tainted by the mindset fostered by all modern ARPGs wherein the only important thing is creating loot explosions as efficiently as possible. It might well be that the atmosphere and design were enough to make it a good game by itself, but any sense of nostalgia I ever had has long since been obliterated by modern ARPG sensibilities.
based sacred MAN
this game still rocks and i completely suck shit at it
give me some pointers on how to become successful at sacred gold
do you need to grind gear somewhere?
Sacred is a bullshit game with impossible hidden rules made to rip your dick off without warning you. There's some bullshit where the more skills you use, the less skills that drop, and thus you are rewarded for not upgrading skills. Absolute dogshit game, I get angry just thinking about Sacred.
Just play the game, enjoy the world and all the outdated easter eggs, try different abilities, if things are to hard just go to some other location, it's not a rocket science.
i was just wondering if i might have been missing some of the core mechanics of the game
i know there is the area boss where you have to kill about 2500 enemies for it to spawn but that doesn't seem feasible to do singleplayer
i also feel that my characters drop off at some point
Crazy how you can log thousands of hours and still not find some of super rare unique items in the game. Although the new Terror Zones does make it easier

unfathomably based
Diablo 1 is the only good one
Something being worth playing for art/atmosphere and music doesn't make it "mid" you insect.
>if it's not worth replaying beyond the first playthrough.
Sure if you mean

If you're not playing games for the gameplay, why not watch movies or read books instead?
>Copying builds online isn't deep.
idiot. that's like blaming the game for people using a walkthrough.
D2 was in my top 5 favorite games of all time. I replayed it few times when Resurrected was released. It's not even close to being as good as I remember.
lod and d3 and d4 all suffered by killing rares in some way
I actually enjoyed D3 and still re-playing it once in 1-2 years, just create a season character, get some mindless dopamine fun, get bored in 30-50 hours, forget about it for another few years.

New arpg designers think diablo 2 is only about doing baalruns and made the entire new game a baalrun.
They infused the game with black magic to make everyone addicted to it.
Because you can't improve perfection.
Salty
>typo
Sadly*
Already done, it's called Dungeon Siege 2 just avoid the expansion
Why? what did the expansion add?
he doesn't actually know because all of his opinions on that game are from a youtube video

I actually played it to the end. Get fricked
It was shit.
poe tard detected
They can't because Diablo 2 ruined the genre by making it about loot and farming (or rather the community did).
One of Diablo 1's (the creator of the genre) core design philosophies was loot.
And the loot used to be meaningful and a game changer instead of numbers mindlessly going up.
Numbers going up is quite literally what makes the loot a meaningful game changer.
Act 1 was pure kino.
It's because of that I unironically believe action rpgs like the Soulshit genre are truer genre evolutions and sequels to the spirit of Pre-Diablo 2.
Yes, but it was loot as a byproduct of you playing the game. D1's loot has a very very different feel to D2.
Nah homie. Single player was kino.
ARPG isn't a genre. It means "games that try to be like Diablo 2".
BAALRUN 123
BAALRUN 124
BAALRUN 125
Even if 2% of the playerbase bothered with Baal runs I would say that's a lot. Normal people just move on
Diablo 2 wasn't even that good, each act gets progressively worse
D2 devs made the game they wanted. ARPGs after are made to appease the masses and end up being the worst of all worlds. This isn't unique to ARPGs though. PoE is perhaps an exception, but it has been ruined by moron homosexual chris and his discord troony RMT cartel fantasy, so Jonathan saving the franchise with PoE2 is their only hope.
It's true, other than last epoch, path of exile, and grim dawn there isn't a better arpg than diablo 2
wbt titan quest
Only Last Epoch and Diablo 3 are in the same ballpark as Diablo 2. Grim Dawn and Path of Exile are too busy trying to be Titan Quest, which makes them shit. They aren't better than Torchlight 2.
>Diablo 3
That's enough Ganker for me today
Good, frick off.
>They seek to copy the underlying addictive engineering of what made Diablo 2 wickedly popular, t
They did all that with vanilla WoW already.
they have several times
you just like d2 more because it's easier
Literally the worst Diablo game praised only by nostalgiasoihomosexuals, even Diablo 3 completely shits on it.
Dark Souls 1 was released in 2011, "Though"
Because nobody has the balls to actually update and innovate on the formula and just tries to recapture Diablo II's lightning in a bottle.
Wait until June and PoE2 beta will start.
Chris Wilson is still in charge so it's going to be the same old story
I have faith that they have realized that PoE has become way too autistic, and they are now trying to tone down a lot of the autism for PoE2, while improving on everything else.
Doubt it
PoE is destined to become a pseudo-gacha that traps you on planet bullshit with overwhelming skinner box tactics.
>Doubt it
Have you actually seen videos of the stuff they are doing with PoE2 though?
I set myself free from GGG's casino about 18 months ago and completely stopped paying attention to anything they have been doing since then. When I last looked, PoE2 looked pretty much like PoE1 with slightly better skill gem mechanics.
If you have a highlight reel of the big changes they are making, though, I'm all ears.
>I have faith
Yep, that's a PoE player alright. Completely delusional and absolutely lacking any critical thinking.
Why are they called Arpgs? It has to be the biggest misnomer in video games
There's no role playing and the only RPG elements are weapon and character stats, and maybe the camera view
It's like calling STALKER a FPS RPG because it has an inventory
"FPS RPG" is a perfectly fair label for STALKER
Proof?
I prefer the term "diablo clone" or "hack n slash", ARPG makes me think of soulshit.
When you think of an action game, it's basically the opposite of an RPG. So the "action" part of ARPG was added because the games played like an RPG, but without the RPG parts, which were replaced by action instead.
stalker is quite literally an fps rpg what the frick are you talking about
I still recommend Throne of Darkness
trannies and progressives aren't here to make video games, they are here to poison your mind and make you throw away your humanity
the people who make modern video games are here to kill and demoralize white men, rob the world of any quality and creativity, while flooding western countries with shitskin rapists

because the genre is inherently shit if that is really supposed to be the best game
Diablo 1 is better
Because diablo is not a memorable name
