From what I remember, she was corrupted by the mother tree into trying to genocide all the other races. On my last playthrough I was going up to the Temple of Lucian in Arx and she came off a boat guns blazing trying to fight everyone in the town. The entire town ganged up on her and killed her. In that playthrough, I remember saving her from the lone wolves, but I also remember killing the mother tree as well. I think she just went nuts.

Ifan quite literally is defined by his overwhelming guilt at having done that in the past and explicitly is trying to fix that problem. In fact almost every character he actively antagonizes are humans.

Beast is extremely underwhelming.
Ifan has a cool storyline but it just adds on to the base storyline, very little extra.
Fane's story barely makes sense when you have him as a companion, but it's really good as the PC.
Sebille is surprisingly good.
Lohse is pretty good, much better as PC than companion.
Fane's questline is absolutely fantastic, especially if you go the """evil""" route

The actual characters/companions don't really matter since you can spec them however you like
I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much, you can more or less do what you want, within reason
Like you want a healer and having a warrior that can knock shit down is basically mandatory
From there, throw in whatever type of damage you want, spellcasters, archers, thiefs, some mix. Doesn't really matter. Ideally you choose to focus on physical or magical damage to some degree, but you want something of a mix anyway as most fights have enemies with a mix of low physical armor and high magical armor, and vise versa
As long as you got shit that can knock stuff down, and a healer/support character, you're probably fine

I can see why you might not like her at first, I think I had a bad impression, but her story ended up being one of the most satisfying for me (second to Ifan, but grizzed veteran with regrets trying to make amends - plus white male - is just top kino)
