Shenmue is ten times more popular and well-known than any such piece of bad-but-interesting media would have any right to complain about.

Shenmue is to Yakuza what Wolfenstein 3D is to Doom. It set the groundwork and is playable, but you shouldn’t outside of getting historical curiosity.

lol what? this is easily the most OVERrated game on the dreamcast. yeah, in 1999 it was a novel concept and people were much more eager to lose themselves in what felt like a living world at the time. back then the game felt much greater than the sum of its parts. playing it now though, its just shitty qtes and minigames. no one wants to play it anymore unless they have nostalgia for it.

3 killed the series. They had a golden opportunity to to introduce shenmue to a new generation, and they blew it. I know shenmuedojo types say shenmue 3 is exactly like the others, but you had to pivot slightly when there was a fricking 20 year gap between games
