It's fine unless you play AAA trash with it.
>It's fine unless you play AAA trash with it.
What's the alternative? Overpriced indie shit?
The only AAA I played was P5R and Civilization. Other than that I played:
Into the Breach
Binding of Isaac
Hollow Knight
Into the Breach
Ender Lillies
Baba is You
And a ton of emulated games.
If you think all of these are trash then you should look for another hobby.
oh wow overrated indie trash who'd have ever guessed
How predictable of a response. Why don't you post some of the AAA you want to play on the Deck? I promise I won't call them all shit, go on. Pinky promise.
>AAA games are NOT overrated
>Indie games without a hint of the same exposure are
na man I only play AAA games. games that were made in the stone age make my eyes bleed.
Post a racing game that isn't. Go ahead.
F-Zero GX.
Trackmania
Sonic All Stars Racing
Other emulated stuff like Micro Machines and Rock and Roll Racing
These are AA at most and run for hours on the deck.
Gran Turismo 4
I'm playing Retroarch on the OLED and the battery seems fine to me. Although, I don't really have much to compare it to since this is my first handheld since the original Gameboy Advance. But I was playing 1080 and Star Fox 64 the other night and I was surprised by how not shit it is. Dreamcast is good too. Gunna try some Saturn later on.
AMD user spotted
Unironically, the Steam Deck is extremely efficient at 10-15W, more so than any other chips.
are you talking about total power or TDP? because it's got pretty big diminishing returns past ~11W TDP
its not, its quite good. the oled is just a bit better.
you should not compare the battery life of x86 devices to the battery life of arm decices.
Nah it's pretty shit. It's the only device I own whose battery will drain (within just a couple weeks at most) even when turned OFF
Do you turn it off by tapping the power button? Thats not turned off, thats sleep, which on PCs keeps the RAM powered.
To turn it off, you have to hold it and select Shutdown.
What exactly are you expecting from a handheld when you're running modern AAA on it?
thank you for beta testing our product!
It's only trash if you don't play at 40fps and 7 watts
It's fine if you're playing anything but newer more demanding games. Or Okami, for some reason. I can play something like Etrian Odyssey for quite some time on one charge and not even be half way through my battery on my LCD unit.
I know nothing about this but I do think OLED is slightly more power efficient and that adds up with the bigger battery for more play time.
Because it's better.
OLED is thrash.
OLED has handheld-tier battery life at that point. Completely mogs eveything else especially all the other x86 shit.
Got the OLED today and I'm hearing a buzzing sound on my IEMs. I've seen that this issue is quite widespread. What's the point in having 3.5mm port if it's defective. None of the reviewers I looked out pointed this out too.
>None of the reviewers I looked out pointed this out too.
you mean the very organic marketing didn't point out a flaw/
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow
I just swapped to a pair of earphones that weren't affected by it tbh.
There is actually a fix discovered for this
The cause is that the daughterboard with the audio jack is grounded both via exposed ground on the board itself and its screws, creating a ground loop
To fix it, insulate these two screws from touching the board by putting kapton tape between it and the board
Supposedly, steam support says they are offering a mail in fix, though it is unclear what the fix is yet (I bet its the same thing)
Not to mention the purple ghosting whenever a black object moves around the screen
I thought you were a schizo but I played signalis today and the purple smearing on it was pretty bad
Sorry anon. You won't be able to un-notice it now.
is this a panel lottery thing?
People say yes and say theirs isnt affected, but I have yet to see any of them post a video of the same scene in portal 2 or any other game with black objects in grey rooms to prove it
Im gonna contact steam support about mine and ask them whether its up to their standards or not.
if this is considered normal and not a defect then I am sticking with my LCDeck
If that happens I think Ill keep my oled and hope sometime in the future a regular 90hz LCD screen replacement comes out
It's standard for OLED. Just google oled purple smear. It's not a recent thing.
Part of me doesn't believe you and I'm left thinking "surely something this glaringly obvious and annoying doesn't effect all oled displays" but the lack of shitposting from tendies about oled deck smearing is deafening so now I don't know what to believe.
People have commented on the smearing since the fricking vita
But we're talking about this effecting oled as a technology overall. I've never seen anyone mention a smearing problem with the switch oled, so is it just a thing with some oled panels but not other or not?
Oleds in general are more prone to smear at low brightness and pure black image
I see it at full brightness.
The only cause is black pixels turning on into grey pixels. It's too slow which causes the smear effect as those pixels slowly turn on.
Unfortunately, games quite often have dark areas.
Screen brightness, refresh rate, etc, none of that shit matters.
Even super 'premium' shit like iphones have it.

If apple thinks its tolerable you can bet its all oleds.
>If apple thinks its tolerable
Thats not a high bar anon
don't remember this being a thing on my vita
I got it a little bit, but nowhere near that bad, don't know what its about.
panel lottery
Well if its not the standard, then
can just RMA since it's obviously uniquely worse.
Does it get worse if you turn down the brightness?
lmao dang yeah, you made me check, turning it down does makes it much more worse, but it's only distractingly bad at such a low brightness that I would never actually use during normal gameplay.
Call me coping, but it's not enough of an issue I regret the purchase since I like the benefits of OLED over LCD. Playing Tetris Effect has been a treat.
Thanks anon, not to be an ass though but the video might look a lot better if you made it 720p instead, it would allow it to be a much higher bitrate
it's cause you have the LE
Im the original portal vid poster and mines an le too
That's a BOE panel for you.
Should have gotten the regular model with the Samsung panels.
Nah, samsung panels have a grain you don't get on BOE.
Anything OLED=Thrash
the amount of options you have the option of messing with to improve battery performance is the kind of consumer-friendly thinking that you barely see from other companies.
It literally plays witcher 3 and risk of rain 2 longer than switch can
Idk I usually get 6-7 hours out of mine but I don't play new games.
That's just x86 devices in general. The fact the LCDeck had the best battery life before is just a testament to how absurd these line of devices were.
Thankfully the OLEDeck has way better battery. To the point that I don't need to charge it everyday.
>sort emulation out on the deck
>try some PS2 outrun c2c
>start playing, sound immediately distorted and terrible slow down
>both cpu and gpu levels barely at 20% usage
>fricking what
Seriously what a huge pile of steaming shit. Really? What the flying frick is the deal with this thing
Just limit everything to 40 fps and watch the magic
The battery is fine, it's the shitty fan that keeps revving up for two seconds then powering down that's awful. The switch can play pikmin 4 for an hour and a half with no sound and barely any heat but the Steam Deck can't play fricking dave the diver for 20 minutes without revving up the fans and being hot as an oven
I don't have this problem. Are you using the old fan curve?
Are you letting the game run at 600fps or something? Thats the only times I ever hear the fan going
People got fricked hardcore by the OLED model lmao
How so?
homie scroll up, 3 people have reported screen ghosting issues, several others have talked about hearing static when using the headphone jack
And people who use devices with IPS screens complain about glowing blacks and backlight uniformity issues. Guess everyone is fricked if they buy imperfect technology.
The headphone jack thing on the other hand is an actual dumb design error. I'm not surprised nobody noticed it before the deck went into the wild, though. Who the frick uses 3.5mm anymore.
This. LCD got problems. OLED got problems. There's no perfect display technology, it doesn't exist.
Getting into fights over which better is mad gay. Let's be honest, we'll all getting cucked. Trying to make the other guy feel bad about his choice is just you coping.
Why are these screenshots 144p
how much playtime does an lcd vs oled get for elden ring?
>backlight uniformity issue
Oled instead has the upgrade of...
Pixel uniformity issues regardless of backlight
Look up mura
This is all the same rgb color
>mura
Holy shit oleds still havent solved that shit?
I remember people comparing their fricking vita screens for this reason
reminds me of the ps vita
soul
I listened to fricking years of tendies calling the deck a piece of shit because no oled. Of fricking course it turns out to be a giant meme.
Its endless cope from LCD cucks.
What are you emulatin'?
A bit of everything
