I used to think it should be allowed, and I still do to a degree. But I had one guy literally track me down on other platforms with my username and harass me for around 6 months because I beat him repeatedly in fricking RDR1 online. Some people are just unhinged. I didn't even know he was doing it until recently when I accessed an old email of mine and it was filled with his hate mail. I can't imagine what your average normalgays have to go through since you can easily dox most people IRL nowadays with just a username.

I just called my teammate a moronic Black person and explained to him that the reason he was throwing a tantrum was because of his black genes and my account got chat banned for a temporary duration and only because the dude was actually a lefty that called me nazi and wrote a report, the rest of the team agreed with me because I was not inting like him
League mods know that if they hand out permanent bans too often they will lose their entire play base, the game is extremely stressful, all it takes is a below average IQ teammate to make the whole 40 minutes average match a pain so toxicity is unavoidable

Overwatch had a huge difference of handling toxicity between regions. EU Blizzard around 2016 literally gave ZERO shits, I must have literally threatened to kill hundreds of people playing Overwatch, calling them every insult under the sun and I never got as much as a warning. Meanwhile NA players got banned for typing kys once. I'm sure it's weenie hut jr nowadays though
