Why is the writing so bad?

>start new acclaimed role-playing game
>can't wait to get immersed into an interesting story and characters
>escaping from mind flayer ship with my 2 companions I just met
>find a wounded mind flayer on the ground, he tries to control me
>I'm mentally wrestling with him and deciding whether to let him live or die
>I wonder what my 2 companions who were also enslaved by these monsters will think I should do?
>they have no input at all into the encounter
>they both stand there silently waiting for the gameplay to resume
>naturally, I kill the illithid
>still no comment or response from my companions
>20 seconds later meet an elf
>one of the dialogue choices lets me tell him to go wait for me at my camp
>I don't even have a fricking camp yet

Do these people not understand how continuity works? Feels like I'm playing a fan-written mod of a real game.
This is what you guys are holding up as the pinnacle of CRPGs? Pathetic.

as we all know, those are both IMPOSSIBLE to falsify and the company has no vested interest in bloating up those metrics anyway

The only good part about BG3 is the part where it's literally just D&D.
Everything it does on its own is just garbage.

This is what I was afraid of. Larian shoe-horning their own shit ideas from DOS1 and 2 into the game.

Nobody cares about "writing" as long as they get to have romance scenes.

If you want better writing you have to play the Pathfinder games instead. Larian hire tween girls to do their writing apparently.

Haven't played the second one but Kingmaker's dialogue is ass, at least from what I saw of the first 5 hours.

pathfinder's dialogue made me quit the game 1 hour in. wrath of the righteous is better, although characters react nonsensically there as well. all crpgs like these have either bad/cringe or boring writing. for me so far BG3's writing is on par with WoTR, maybe with more swears than usual. no idea what people are making a fuss about as it' not really that unusual

It feels like a normal DnD campaign
Most of my DMs aren't that great at doing dialogue, same with most players
But that's what's sort of fun about it. The game feels true to life rather than trying to be cinematic and polished with its writing. Its flaws are what make it a bit endearing

No but I expect them to have an opinion on the monster who enslaved them, mind-raped them and inserted a living parasite into their brains thus condemning them to a painful death.

Yes let's add that to literally every single interaction in the game.
Never mind the fact that some of your companions will comment on him anyway and that they've gone out of their way to create unique scenarios and cutscenes depending on which companions are in your party when you enter new areas or speak with certain NPC's. Or how time actually progresses and content changes depending on the order in which you did things, or how easy-to-miss sidequests affect the main story, or how you can approach some quests in creative ways to completely change their outcomes.
homie you're not even an hour into the game, delete it and stop whining or play some more.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Divinity have that?
They wouldn't ritualistically say something to let you know they're there, but if the character's invested in something they would speak up.
This happens extremely rarely in BG3, and it's usually when it's part of a character's personal quest, like Shadowchud getting a line in when talking about the Selunites or when you find the Shar temple.
I don't think I've heard Gale say 1 word without being asked so far.

        Anonymous

Can't remember, but there is a part later where you meet a "good" mindflayer who tries to help you but none of the characters have any input. But there's a devil earlier where they're all like "don't deal with devils!"

It feels really unfinished and some parts feel like they forgot about them.

I keep forgetting just how low IQ a lot of you fricks are.

I don't even know too much about DnD at all, in fact i would say i don't know shit besides dice roll shit and thats it, and even I figured out stuff almost instantaneously.

The camp is a fricking mechanic in the game, and you'd figure that out near instantly if you fricked around with your UI. You'd also realize your companions have something to say with literally anything, but guess what? you have to le gasp click on them to talk to them afterward. seems like a realistic thing implemented pretty well into a video game.

The ONLY thing I didn't catch on to was just how much advantage is important in DnD rules. I kept going for damage spells and skills, talked to a coworker about how the game is pretty challenging, then since he was an actual DM he told me about advantage and what not. I've since respec't everyone (something i also found out on my own very quickly, just didn't know if i'd ever need to use it), and now it's a lot more fair in combat.

you homosexuals really need to open a book and train your fricking brain ffs. I'm a highschool dropout who doesn't even remember how to multiply or divide anymore and i count with my fricking fingers, yet i can instantly pick up this shit. I might be stupid but i'm not an idiot. I also don't throw tantrums on Ganker when I can't figure something out quickly either. It's such an easy thing to do since you are anonymous, but it says a lot about you and your mental state.

      >I'm a highschool dropout
im not a dropout but it seems like a lot are smarter than graduates, thats probably both a cause and a result of dropping out, school is really just meant to condition midwits and morons to work hard for the rest of their lives, smart people get no challenge unless they take the homosexual advanced classes full of insufferable nerd "autistic" morons so unless they do that they often end up flailing around helplessly after school because they've never had to try once in their lives and are suddenly thrown into a world of soulless wageslaving that only gets harder day by day as the economy and entire social fabric of the west shits the bed

sometimes they make media products controversial on purpose while trying to make it seem ambiguous about which way it goes politically, that way everyone can potentially begin to get hype for it and invest all these emotions or want to be proven wrong about something so that they can get hype for it too, and then everyone ends up arguing about the ambiguity which results in them advertising the product themselves for free all while still product retains as large a consumer base as possible

Companions do interject from time to time but it's not as much as it should be because RPGs insist on full voice acting now (except for the character you're controlling, even if it's a companion, which makes it even more moronic).
The camp is just a camp that any adventuring party has. There wasn't any need to draw attention to it.

What is this copypasta? At least talk about the barbarian mary sue character not some autistic criticism of the self-insert RPG gameplay.
