Why is there a narrative that Nintendo was better than Sega for RPGs?

Why is there a narrative that Nintendo was better than Sega for RPGs? Sega had the Phantasy Star series, Ultima IV, Golden Axe Warrior, Golvellius, several Ys games, two versions of Shadowrun, the Shining Force series, Landstalker, and plenty of others that all hold their own against Nintendo's offerings.

Not only do they hold their own, they are actually far better in many cases, along with the awesome selection of JRPG's on the PC Engine and PC-98 and incredible CRPG's and strategy games on the Amiga. All the SNES had were Squaresoft's RPG Maker shit from before they reached their actual peak on the PlayStation, the "SNES JRPG powerhouse" meme is a cope that does not hold up to scrutiny.

Genesis is my favorite console, but it cannot butt heads with the SNES when it comes to RPGs. Something like Romancing SaGa 2 easily trounced the Shining series and Phantasy Star.

I will keep it. Multiple generations, choices that can have nations and their specific classes join or not join your empire, six bosses that you can tackle in what ever order you want and they can change depending upon when you face them in the game, innovative skill mechanics with tons of skills for weapon classes and how you learn skills, impactful formations for speed, to have certain positions targeted, or to avoid row or column based attacks, and amazing music.

because japs don't care about half the games you listed

lack of RPGs was a real issue for Sega. they even started "sega falcom" to resolve the issue, but most of those announced games were cancelled

There are lots of great RPGs on Sega consoles, but SNES alone probably has more good RPGs than all of them put together.

The genesis had some good RPGs but was limited when compared to the snes.

It's a MS spammer disguising contrarian posts to annoy people as legit discussions. It's sad to see.

Because the Mega Drive had less than 20 RPGs but the SNES had like 200. And the MS only existed in europe and brasil.

If you get somebody saying that he loves nintendo but hates RPGs he grew with a N64.

Probably because Nintendo had both Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest

Which is funny, because both of those series only really became good and popular on the PlayStation.

DQ VII is not one of the fan favs and Famicom/SFC have most of the beloved ones.
Give up auster. Make SMS threads without your usual console/brand war bait and try again.

          >DQ VII is not one of the fan favs
Unfairly so, but even still, VIII is a fan favourite, and that is a PlayStation 2 title, hence my point remains. It's funny how you didn't even attempt to rebuke my statement regarding Final Fantasy, I guess even for Nintendo die-hards it's pretty undeniable that the series really began with VII. Also, I am not Australian, and this is not my thread, and I have seen enough other people sharing my sentiment about JRPG's on the SNES being highly overrated to know that it is gaining in popularity. Cope.

FF IV is one of the favorites.
DQ VIII is also a fav but not the only one, and majority of most well liked DQ games were originally on Nintendo systems.
            It's over auster.

It might legitimately be not auster. It's likely him, but I've seen people who obsess over the Master System and try to paint it as some secretely successful console with a million great games while Nintendo was never that good. Some SEGA fans are just this obsessed, for whatever reason.

I prefer the SNES RPGs generally but Shining Force 1 and 2 MOG Fire Emblem

Ys is not SEGA and Shadowrun is also on SNES. They're probably referring to obvious games like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Dragon Warrior, Earthbound, Shin Megami Tensei and Secret of Mana which were hugely popular on SNES.

I will admit though I still need to try the Phantasy Star and Shining game. Also Shining is different from Shining Force, the latter is a strategy game probably closer to Fire Emblem or Famicom Wars.
