The desert needed more enemy's / variants and bullet sponge baddies are some of its weaker poi ts the story and writing is better that the rest of the franchise save 1/2

There was an entire debate arroudn the tone shift of fallout 2, with plenty of fans of the first entry hating the second. You will now always see those game lumped together as the good old ones because said youtube essay did not cherry pick those opinions to broadcast to 10 millions.

No, it in fact did not.
Fallout 3 was hated on niche forums on the basis of its simplification of RPG systems, as part of a wider trend in RPGs. New Vegas is a campaign for Fallout 3. It's the same game. Nobody cared. These community went on to make systems centric RPGS like age of decadence, and they mostly failed at reviving the genre.
New Vegas was a disaster at launch, a borderline unplayable mess. The target audience for that game was fans of fallout 3, and most of them found the game horrible. And if you played it back then you can hardly blame them.
Now that it's playable, it is retroactively lauded for the writing and open ended quests, which is deserved sure. It is also pushed as a lot of things it is not, most of which originates from points being parroted ad nauseam from one moron to the other for the better part of the last decade.
It's a revival of the classic design, when it pushes down your throat the main quest where the originals where open ended with zero hand holding. The strip was impressive for the time, when it was a technical disaster that looked laughably bad in 2010.
Stick around this moronic fanbase long enough, and you can't unsee it.
