Business cycles. Businesses have no savings, they spend it all hiring employees so they can make more money next quarter and when they aren't making money anymore they cut costs to not go into debt
I watched a vid explaining it's . Investors are gigantic morons who think hire = growth and game companies/corps take advantage of that like the tech industry to milk them until it's unsustainable and they have to slash and burn.
Industry correction trimming off the fat from over hiring midwits normies during the last 5 years and trimming off fat also allows to reduce overhead cost to increase profit for stonk only losers are the incompetent fired workers and winners are shareholders for increased stock price
These devs had it coming after making shit games with ugly characters
based
woke economics have no inherent business or economic value only value it had was bubble and social value aka parasite value
Seems like the common denominator between all these companies that are still hiring is that they all make games that people like. Maybe it has nothing to do with the inherent evils of capitalism then
>overwatch 2 >unfun "sequel" to an already unfun game >do nothing >don't listen to players >when you do something it's never something anyone asked for >sometimes the complete opposite of what people want >"dream job"
good riddance stupid b***h
>quit job in a messy way by saying "i fricking quit" to my manager, after he's displayed INSANE amounts of arrogant ignorance about policy changes that affect the employees >they frick up their response to this so badly the union lands me a month of severance pay >during this whole thing, I repeatedly ask what will be done to shield my ex-coworkers from this store manager and his rabid refusal to keep up on what's happening in HIS store >every fricking time they instantly deflect with "what do you care, it has nothing to do with you" as if I didn't work alongside and form bonds with these people for a year and a half
Years of diversity and mass hiring to compensate for talent bleed, inflated budgets focusing on realism and marketing, and ESG like practices are finally catching up to the industry.
A general contraction in the tech-industry, primarily software, and entertainment in general.
Companies were basically getting thrown money just prior to covid and it went into overdrive during the lockdowns. Staff size was seen as an aspect of company growth, despite it largely not increasing scope of projects, quality of service or efficiency and it just increasing overhead.
Jump forward to now, large amounts of layoffs are aimed to decrease overhead, investors are pulling money due to lack of returns and companies are still hemorrhaging money.
While it sucks people are losing their jobs, this entire boom was a fool's paradise and the results were predictable.
Jonathan Blow, protagonist of the film Indie Game: The Movie, has shared his astute opinion on the matter. He blames Bidenomics, diversity hires, and remote work to name a few.

How come eastern developers are not suffering the same layoffs?
Because they deserve it
Burn the whole industry to the ground. Let them all suffer and starve.

it accelerated
Tech industry went into a hiring rush due to COVID. Now they're shedding jobs and MS is eliminating redundancies after acquisitions.
sucks for the white men who have talent but at least they have at least some chance of working again because they actually worked
the trannies and dangerhairs who did nothing on the other hand, never fricking working in the industry again and that is a blessing.
