What sort of trouble are you having Anon? I use the DS4 controller for all my controller-based PC gaming. Steam Input handles it without issue.

If a game isn't on Steam and I want to use my controller to play it, I add it as a "non-Steam Game" to my Steam library. If I launch the game through Steam, I then can use Steam Input to handle the support for my DS4 controller. I did the same thing if I happened to emulate games as well.

                >ds4windows doesn't do shit unless the program is running.
Wrong. It overwrites the default drivers DS4 controllers.
A simple search for "how to uninstall ds4w drivers" will shows you that.
Hell it says so on their fricking github that it install it's own drivers

                >It overwrites the default drivers DS4 controllers
Because the stock windows drivers do literally nothing, but when ds4w is closed it won't interfere with steam input at all
Hell you can technically use both at the same time, and it'll work if the bindings are identical. Some games might throw a shitfit but it's not an issue with either steam input or ds4w.

Dont listen to the morons above me, DS4 on PC fricking blows if you use it for more than a single platform. The solution, if you really want to use DS4, is to use an adapter that will make windows treat it as a xbox controller.

Do you have Steam open while you are trying to use ds4windows in desktop mode? If so, try completely turning off the Steam application. Steam has a "desktop mode" for controllers where they change the controller inputs to mouse inputs (e.g. analog stick acts as mouse movement and the trigger buttons act as left/right click). You can go into Steam settings to turn off controller desktop mode, or you can just exit out of the Steam application all together. I know I ran into the exact same problem when I was playing emulated Playstation games on my desktop with ds4windows while Steam was running.
