It's the best of the 3D games. Gen 6 ruined this franchise but the way that LA and SV have turned out have me very hopeful for the future. Those two are fun games and I like that they're trying new things

You have 9 generations of essentially the same fricking game, getting a game that is actually different, improves on multiple things and became super fresh, tends to do that.
It helps that the game actually has content, and we got a free update that gave us even more shit to do.
Obviously it's still flawed, but unlike traditional Pokemon, it's worth it, compared to SWSH being basic games with all their problems
It's based on the period when Ezo got absorbed into Japan as Hokkaido, but they "gathered people from far and wide" so a bunch of the guys running the expedition are unambiguous Westerners (including a brown Galarian); the village is Japanese-looking but their HQ is built in Western style.
One of the not-Ainu characters is of unclear gender, but they're also a huge prick who causes trouble for everyone.
The not-Ainu are implied to be descended from an ancient civilisation of superhuman blond people who could communicate directly with God.
Akari is such a huge cumbawd she can almost rival Dawn in this regard.
