    Freeze Dry

Its return to Generation 8 through Pokémon HOME changed many things for Kyurem, as it received numerous incredible gifts that addressed some of its most inhibiting factors. Freeze-Dry, amidst these, was a complete gamechanger, as Kyurem finally had a legitimately strong option to not just pressure, but outright beat standard, reliable Ice Beam checks that once blocked it from making consistent progress. Thanks to Freeze-Dry and other great bonus options in Heavy-Duty Boots and Dragon Dance, its other phenomenal attributes were further augmented, making it a bonafide, highly viable threat throughout SS OU's development which eventually led to a ban to Ubers.

It got Dragon Dance and Icicle Spear

Kyurem got some buffs and isn't a shitmon anymore, but it's still not really Uber-worthy.
The real reason it got banned was because the OU council leader got outplayed and 6-0'd by it and utterly humiliated.

Was there anything this guy could have done to kill it? It does look like the Kyurem would have just fricked his whole team even if he hadn't gotten his switches predicted so often

Not playing on autopilot, for one.
Swapping into a dragon right after melmetal was moronic, he could have swapped into his moronic magma frog, used magma storm and be done with him.

That's probably the most moronic play you can do. You switch it, and gets hit, gets OHKO by Earth Power. Roost next turn.

Sack lando and switch in melmetal, Forcing the kyurem player to switch it out which could easily be predicted around. He also could've not made an obvious switch into dragapult either. He just made plays that the Kyurem player could easily predict.

Once Dragapult died, not really. He could have maybe clicked a Fairy move with Fini to put Kyurem into Magma Storm range, except Draining Kiss probably doesn’t do enough even with max special attack and no bulk on Kyurem:
        >252 SpA Tapu Fini Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Kyurem: 146-174 (37.3 - 44.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Really once BIHI read the Melmetal switch turn 1 he needed to preserve Dragapult to revenge kill, meaning realistically from that point on Kyurem just gets a kill every time it comes in. It’s an understandable play though, you’re already down with an offensive team so you take a risk and hope he’s too scared of you clicking Double Iron Bash to click an Ice move.

Kyurem got some buffs and isn't a shitmon anymore, but it's still not really Uber-worthy.

You realize that will never work. Fini is slower and can literally just tank and roost up. If you can't 2KO or OHKO it, you're good as dead.

Sack Lando and at least try to do some chip or get up stealth rocks. When it gets KO'd, send in either Melmetal to DIB or Dragapult to Draco Meteor. Both of them at least guarantee damage, since BIHI didn't have a fairy type.
In hindsight, we know that would've saved Lando and Finch would've been in an even better position, but even based on the knowledge he had, leaving Lando in was the best option.
Keep in mind that the set BIHI was using was a sample set. Earth Power Kyurem is not some crazy innovative build and it was something to be expected. Sending in Melmetal was very risky.

Alternatively, he could've built a better team. Easier said than done, I know, but Kyurem was a prevalent meta threat. Blissey and Glowking wall the shit out of it, and Ferrothorn also does an adequate job. Building a team where every single mon is weak to the combination of Earth Power and Freeze Dry is silly.

Try playing with a rain team against it. That thing OHKO everything and your saving grace is SuperPower MegaSwampert (in the rain) and close combat Barraskewda. It has a nice speed tier to shit on Rillaboom, Landorus, Fini. Couple with absurd powerl level such as BTFO out of would be walks such as Heatran, Taxpex, and Slowtwins

Despite the memes Ice types are rather good in Gen VIII, there's talk of suspect testing Weavile (and this after G-Darm, KB, and Kyurem were all banned).
When you remove Stealth Rock and other hazards you remove the biggest impediment to spamming Ice moves

95 speed absolutely beats most of checks. I use him in NatDex SwSh and he threatens more mons than even Garchomp and Greninja

that stat spread is literally the worst one you could have for a 660+ BST legendary, it's SFMA by Uber standards
Xerneas fits into many of the same issues as Kyurem, but has Fairy Aura and Geomancy. If you remove Geomancy and Moonblast, leaving Xerneas with just Dazzling Gleam or something, it could be worth a suspect in OU.

How is this getting outplayed? Kyurem is sent out and makes 1 obvious prediction, then wins the while game off that alone.

        Anonymous

Actually he made multiple predictions. Including sending in melmetal when the best option was sacking Landorus and trying to get up rocks on the chance that they attempted a prediction, Trying to save melmetal by switching into dragapult which could've revenge killed kyurem. Running an entire team that was literally kyurem bait to begin with. He had no one to blame but himself for that absolute butchering he received.

Kyuren is just a loaded shotgun. The more you try to mediate the damage, the worse it gets. Switch to this, gets guaranteed OHKO next turn, switch into that, you die, the only option was sacking a team member

            Anonymous

Not entirely true. Corviknight while not hard countering it was at least a somewhat decent check if you ran a sp def variant. Might sound dumb but air balloon could've mitigated earth power from Kyurem and allowed a safe switch for melmetal. Besides your opponent has to be skilled enough to get Kyurem into a position where it can be a loaded shotgun. because plenty of pokemon can take a hit and retaliate in kind. Just because it can force you into a bad situation doesn't mean it's broken.
