because they are moronic progressive trash that are incredibly easy to manipulate against the long term interest of their line, as well as their society.

But I am afraid I must be going. The court viziers and scientists of King We Wuz XIII are to meet today to discuss the construction of the Giza interdimensional transport array. There are fears that, were it to go wrong, it could have disastrous consequences, perhaps ripping the fabric of time and causality and reversing the evolution of all those around the site. Imagine! If that were to occur we would become even more base than your folk, pure brutes.

Thankfully, one of the luminaries of the Hebrews, or Dûnyain, those you call the "Long Nose Tribe," purports to have a solution for our faliures to date. Valve hires people all the time but they are extremely picky with who they hire and they don't always stick around even if they do get picked. It's a company where you basically have to be motivated all the time to do things rather than the company motivating you.

You don't need 100% of a marketshare to be a monopoly. Microsoft was considered a monopoly and was sued by the US Government for such despite Mac and Linux existing. It's a famous case.

Valve won't ever be confronted as a monopoly because they don't force exclusivity agreements on anybody. Even many Valve developed games are available on other digital store fronts.
On top of that Valve doesn't force you to use Steam even on their own hardware (the Steam Deck), which is even one step further than the big three console manufacturers go.

Valve is just dominating the market because it's an extremely polished platform whereas EGS and other PC storefronts are not.

Very odd way of wording that for something like PC gaming. There hundreds, if not thousands of games that are only available on steam due to the steam greenlighting process (now steam direct), yes they are "exclusives", but they gave some games a chance they would literally never get anywhere else.
The only "exclusive" on steam that is entirely at the will of valve is their own games (and even some are on consoles too) but thats like complaining Two competing chefs dont use their rivals recipes

There is zero reason for devs not to opt into multiple store fronts. In fact many do, by going with EGS as an exclusivity deal then going to steam after, or going on both at the same time.
Dont blame steam because other storefronts are so shit that devs dont want their games on there.

                >exclude competitors.
Tell me how steam is somehow excluding competitors? Especially when EGS literally rose from nothing (yes I know its failing, but thats mostly because its shit and steam is superior, not because of any choking by Valve)
I find it hilarious that youre using a defition that is explaining a monopoly equates to high market power, being able to push anyone else out of the market, when its simply not even true of Valve, who give zero shits about EGS giving massively favourable deals to devs

Valve is just dominating the market because it's an extremely polished platform whereas EGS and other PC storefronts are not.

steam is definitely a monopoly in the sense they are able to exert market power.
it's one of the rare situations where they haven't been completely anti-consumer.
          probably because it's still private.

corps that have to answer to shareholders invariably go down the brutal as all frick mantra of
          >never leave money on the table
and that's when it truly becomes a problem.

the other storefronts you mentioned do a fraction of the volume and have comparably limited games for sale. the MS example is apropos though, DOJ got on their ass over bundling IE and locking out other browser makers in the 90's; macOS, unix/linux existed, but didn't have enough market share for apple or gnu to exert any kind of anti-consumer/anti competitive pressure.

            > the MS example is apropos though, DOJ got on their ass over bundling IE and locking out other browser makers in the 90's;
I always thought that was weird. They didn't lock out anything. I used windows and netscape, it worked just fine. On a new clean install you had to endure IE only for as long as it took to download another browser.
Actually the current situation where windows insists on putting a shortcut to Edge on the desktop every time it updates is much worse.

Valve are known scammers who commit false advertising and fraud and deserve to be prosecuted by the Federal Trade Commission.

Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.

I was in a startup just for the money and had to endure some of the most moronic people and every single one of their "different idea", that was just some random shit from where they came from or their race culture, and everyone else was supposed to be happy for them because of it, and they always wanted to stick their shitty ideas to our product and since everyone always agreed, we had to, even if it didn't made any sense to have it, they said it would be "more friendly" or other buzzword

Valve built a money printer with Steam so they don't really have to give many fricks. I imagine the day to day for most employees is performative larping.
But they do hire smart people and basically let them do what they want. Eventually you get good ideas bubble up when you have that environment.
If you actually review their game releases, Valve's track record is not so great. But the winners overwhelmingly make up for the losers so in people's perception it seems like they have this perfect track record.
At this point there basically isn't a game Valve could make that would make more money than Steam, so their games are mostly investments to set industry trends and chart out a path for other developers to follow in. HL:Alyx is a good example, it wasn't a huge financial success, but they used it to try to push VR forward.

In March 2018, Gabe Newell held a presentation on Artifact claiming there would be regular expansions, an eventual mobile release, and a $1 million tournament, all of which ultimately failed to materialize.

In August of that year, Gabe Newell repeated the claim of an Artifact tournament during the opening of The International: https://youtube.com/watch?v=X4xYOmUwad0

On March 30, 2020, Valve announced Artifact Beta 2.0, stating they planned for a closed beta (which happened), transitioning to an open beta and later full release (which didn’t).

    https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/583950/view/2102558993190369210

On December 17, 2020, Valve stated they would allow users to invite friends to the Artifact 2.0 beta in January.

    https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1269260/view/2951510987408670526

On March 4, 2021, Valve formally abandoned Artifact. No expansions, no mobile version, no million-dollar tournament, not even something as basic as allowing users to invite friends to the beta like they said they would.
