Why is VR still so barebones? The only real game is Alyx, no AAA VR-exclusive games are coming out, even porn games are janky, disappointing and require shitton of work to get what you want. Where are the big projects, why is everything so weak and lazily done, it's not a technology that came out yesterday. It still feels like enthusiast hardware but with no enthusiast to be seen. Such wasted potential

>Alyx
>real game
Ummmm sweaty, that game doesnt even have melee combat, it's legit barebones garbage.
It even forces you to use teleportation.
It's a tech demo if anything.
>It's a tech demo if anything
So just as much a game as HL2?
it's an extended Aperture Lab only made for Index rather than the Vive.
Its interesting how people treat VR as if it were a gimmick, which is a shame.
VR undeniable improves every 1st person experience out there.
Its ridiculous how much untapped potential VR is.
Pretty much, Half life was always a garbage game.
It being the flagship for VR did it more harm than good honestly, since it didn't push VR forward whatsoever, all it did was go "OMG LOOK AT THE PURTY GRAPHICS" while being inferior to other VR games in terms of mechanics in every other way.
What's the alyx's modding scene like? Surely there's been at least one to implement melee combat. Literally just code it so enemies take damage when you swing objects into them.
>It even forces you to use teleportation
???
Wasn't that just one of the movement types you can choose? Or am I remembering wrong?
>It even forces you to use teleportation
Im pretty sure you could turn cuckmode off?
Maybe try playing the game before talking, retards.
Game has platforming that forces you to teleport, you can't actually grab ledges to lift yourself...etc
>mods will fix the game I swear!!!11
It has regular joystick movement too.
it doesn’t force you to teleport retard, there is a continuous movement option
It forces you to teleport to get through tight spaces and to "jump"
Alyx is litterally made to be baby's first VR game.
Also my fucking upcoming VR games wishlist is growing, my backlog never dries up
RE4’s VR is exclusive to PSVR2
flat gaming still proves superior in every way vr just cant compete
Flat games are only superior when there's no VR mode. Every single game which is playable both flat and in VR the VR version is the superior version
for about one hour
What happens after 1 hour?
it gets boring and you wish to go back to flat gaming, vr is for fags looking to get excited about something
you mean you don't have the hardware to run it without it being a jittery mess
Blocks your path
is it coming to PC?
You can mod any game made on the RE Engine to have all the VR functionalities for PC. I am playing RE2 with vr now. It works perfectly.
That VR mod is pretty good but doesn't compare to RE4 on Quest or PS5 vr mod...
I might get RE4Remake due to it going to have a VR mod quickly.
RE4 Quest is better but, I like playing PC nowadays due to having a KatWalkC2+
It's time to embrace console vr gaming for a generation or two. The industry needs it for the wider audience and cash flow. PC will always be superior and create the innovations but the reality is money drives further support and development. PC and Consoles have a reciprocal relationship and need each other in their own seperate ways.
>A VR update Capcom once again won't release on PC
For what fucking purpose?
I’m shocked at how well this game plays. I was skeptical because 7 VR was meh and I didn’t feel like replaying Village again, but now I can’t stop.
I thought it would be awkward and clumsy, but sometimes it feels like the game was made for VR.
Facebook bought up the lions share of VR devs and they've made fuckall from it, as well as limiting the space to only having things on the Quest
Because their ownership of zynga made them think that gamedev was a 3-6 month project when all their shit it's another farm ville clicker clone or poorly copying your fondly remembered flash games but with monetization jammed in.
It's now at the point where metas money isn't worth dealing with their unrealistic demands.
Is it even possible to make a VR gaa a me that isn’t a simplistic action-type game? Seems to me that VR is doomed to always have these type of games because you cannot see your keyboard/controller.
Not enough games -> Not enough market share -> Not enough profit incentive -> Repeat
>get past light VR motion sickness
>feel fine in game
>feel like absolute dogshit afterward
bros we're finally getting some good new games
thanks for the list!
>HL2VR episode 1
ooo nice
Episode 2 comes out early April too
HL2 VR mod?
HL2 has been in VR for about 8 years now hasn't it?
HL2VR is a mod that came out last year that's a proper implementation of the game in VR. It is, sadly, probably one of the best VR games you can play right now.
I played through HL:2 in VR. No mod. Official release on a DK2.
They've just added motion controllers and re-released it.
Not my vid:
>DK2
its just 3d viewer not vr.
And you're just a gay and not a real person.
if you see no difference between low res, not even tracked properly hmd and modern vr hmd with vr controllers with full 6dof roomscale tracking you have no brain
replay it in proper vr to compare, not shitty mouse and keyboard "vr"
>not swinging your arms around like a mong makes it not vr
nobody "swings their hands like a mong" in vr
They do if they’re playing gorilla tag
ye
no. but the mod is the best way to play half life
we are? could you try posting some?
>shitty wii waggle mod for half life
>real game
The only real game vr has is fucking vr chat and you can play that without VR anyway.
There is not much good VR games, but flatscreen to VR mods make up the difference
Grimlord VR is in development and looks pretty good honestly, especially for all you nerdy Soulsgame "enjoyers"
Because who wants to design a "AAA" priced title for a community thats a fraction of PC users only?
Valve did Alyx because its valve so autistic dev-team finally wanted to release something and it also was the loss-leader for Index in general.
Probably because VR is a shitty gimmick
deus ex vr mod
A MOD!
VR is generally a waste of time. I use it for driving sims and the occasional short-form arcadey experience, like playing Time Crisis in a shitty emulator, or H3VR.
My VR setup fails to detect the lighthouses every other morning and requires a reset, which isn't too much of a hassle but it's still mindboggling that the software is this shit after 6 years.
After getting VR I've stopped playing flat games, except maybe city builders, which don't translate into vr that well
>Why is VR still so barebones?
because it was never "Virtual Reality" to begin with
it's a fucking monitor strapped to your dumb idiot head with dogshit motion-tracking controllers, every single product made for it has been pajeet-tier vaporware to reflect the quality of the platform they exist in
i genuinely enjoy my vr headset
i spend upwards of 3 hours in games like skyrim vr and ancient dungeon frequently
im sorry for anyone who can't appreciate it
Dont care, had sex on VR last night
Anyone want to party up and play some VR come on here:
https://www.guilded.gg/i/E0LneMnE
Pic related is some of my VR games.
Pulsar Colony is flatscreen and VR and is my personal most hidden of hidden gems. Super fucking fun.
I will be streaming and playing right now something I just discovered and am having a great time with which is: Breachers
Literally R6S mixed with Counter Strike VR but a lot more fun with no hero charactes or fag shit.
There are good, full games but no one’s played them.
>Astro Bot
>Moss
>Deracine
>Blood and Truth
Some of these are on the shorter side, which sucks
>Why is VR still so barebones?
what game?
RE8
PSVR only....
I love how you can do this silly shit in VR games. If it was "technology" thread everyone would be pissing their pants, but if it's vr it's "swinging your arms around like a mong"
i like vr, it’s just a task to set it up. and i had to get used to the motion sickness but thats fine now. i also feel like i can’t be properly mobile, like picking stuff up off the floor cos im paranoid i’ll bump into stuff
>it’s just a task to set it up
get a more modern headset without external trackers
You litterally put lighthouses once on the wall or furniture, and forget about them forever. For most gaming situations camera based tracking is fine. Unless you try to throw a grenade, grab a backpack, play in the dark or play pool.
Idk man, I’m enjoying it
Its pretty obvious PSVR is where all the future movement will be. Sony is waiting for Quest 3 to drop before going all out
>PSVR has the games
>PCVR has the porn
This is literally worse than Sophie’s Choice
PCVR has way more games, but they are not advertised by a giant corporation. You need to look for diamonds in the Steam VR list. THere is MANY good VR games, you just need to bother a bit.
Quest 2 for pc porn
Psvr2 for games
I don't know how you could not have or want them both. They are different headsets with diffrent pros and cons. I've had a quest 2 for over 2 years now. I have had a psvr2 for 3 weeks. They are both great for different things. I'll still play more casual games and porn on the quest 2, I like the portability. The psvr2 has given me the best experiences by far already as far as games go.
My biggest gripe is Horizon on the psvr2 though. I wish it had more challenging modes for the climbing like a grip fatigue mechanic since most of the game is climbing. It also felt like it was over by the time it really started to get going as far as climbing tools. It also needed more vr af things like loosing the menu to select tools and attaching them to your body like re8 vr did. Climbing axes attached at the knees, grapple at the waist and instead of two different grapples have one grapple which you could modify by twisting or similar mechanic to change the function and bow over the shoulder with quiver over the other would have been great.
Quest was a giant step back for VR as a whole. PSVR2 is a nice step forward. I hope sony will also publish PSVR2 stuff on PC, were VR belongs.
RE8 VR lookin litty
ordered a chink VR headset today
I'm so excited to finally try it out
I hope you mean Pico 4 or pimax.
yep, Pico 4
almost ordered Quest 2 not knowing there was an alternative
Pico 4 is great, only downside - you can't play Quest exclusives...
