Personally, to me it felt more unfinished than any other Xeno game, the equipment and skill system was very odd, no shops, etc. I thought most people hate it though because you have to utilize combat mechanics against trashmobs instead of press attack to win-shenanigans

More unfinished than the Blade trilogy?

I figure? I only played the first one and it felt a bit more finished in terms of content, though the combat left a lot to be desired

Gears and Saga are significantly more unfinished than Blade

True, the actually interesting games are unfinished. Including Blade X, the only interesting blade game. Everything that is finished is just nowhere near as interesting

What people need to understand is that there are a lot of people that create a game, not just 1 person.

In fact, the directors typically have very little to do with the actual quality of the game.

Nah, some games are a collective thing (Final Fantasy , Person, Obsidian)and others people following one Guy vision(Quest/most Matsuno games)
Kojima is a moron but you can see that even his mediocre unfinished games(PT and MGSV) and compare it with what Konami tried (that Silent Hill first person free Game , MGSurvive and Delta) that sometimes having a Team with Metal gear and PT guys is not enough.
Another example more in the RPG territory is seeing all those KH2 and FF8 Battle designer that Barry hyped on FFXV and Flopspoken

Kojima is the best example of a bad director hard carried by his team.
He has genuinely moronic ideas his team has to try to make work while Kojima's direct work on the narrative and writing is fricking terrible and insanely stupid. It's even worse when people pump up his already too big ego into thinking that he's some amazing auteur, picturing himself like David Lynch or something.

All games are a product of the collective of developers who make them. Look what at the absolute garbage Itagaki went on to make after getting fired from Team Ninja. It was the programmers and other designers who made Ninja Gaiden what it was, not the guy with the "ideas."

You're right, but at the same time I think NG and DOA went to shit after Itagaki left, even if they remained technically sound. It definitely wasn't all or mostly him, but I think he had a positive effect on the rest of Team Ninja for whatever reason.

the combat is shit and takes forever against trash mobs
the art style is ugly as frick (it was in the first game too but its even worse on the second one)
removing money and shops feels bad
story is mostly uninteresting aside from the albedo/rubedo stuff
    the ost sucks ass

I played the game for 80 hours and had just unlocked the 3rd level of combo attacks. I think there was 1 more to go too. I tapped out right there. I liked the story, I liked the minigames, but the combat is just a slog.

the combat mechanics in 2 are great for bosses, but it's an absolute chore to have to go through the same hoops for random encounters. every fight becomes this 5 minute ordeal.

Insulting change to the art direction in some shitty attempt to appeal to non-weebs. Otherwise it was fine, I *LIKED* that it kind of felt like a gaiden game and I wish the series itself got more entries to fiddle around with.

the game is just overall pretty bad
the story is the leftover content that was supposed to be the end of 1 before it got rushed out the door, so they needed to add filler to make it a full games length
the underlying stock/boost combo based combat is actually good but the hp/damage numbers are just poorly balanced and enemies toward the end of the game get to be damage sponges. Additionally enemy resistances are extremely polarizing and you can easily do 4x or 5x damage just by attacking with the right elements. But the in game scan only tells you if an element is weak or resisted, and doesn't differentiate a 1.5x damage weakness with a 2.5x or a 5x. So unless you look up what every enemy is weak to or try every element manually you can end up taking way longer on some encounters than you should be. But also if you do know the enemy's weakness and do a fully prepped combo on them you can often kill bosses in a single combo, which completely skips over all of their lower hp mechanics except for the ones that counter boost and interrupt your combo.

Every single trash mob has an insanely bloated hp pool because they want you to break and juggle them and shit, but it ends up just taking way longer than it should to plow through these guys, boss fights are interesting but the game is also so short the difficulty just suddenly spikes out of no where and you're likely not prepared for it at first.
VA and character design changes are horrendous, whoever thought Shion should lose her glasses is a moron, she looks terrible. The story is slightly redeeming the game at least because you learn more about Rubedo and Albedo but it might as well be it's only redeeming factor, that and the fact that it's short.

      >Shion should lose her glasses is a moron, she looks terrible
I agree, but it isn't even just the glasses. Everyone got a visual downgrade in 2, but Shion especially got utterly fricked. Someone at Namco must've fricking hated her.

    It was plain bad
    >combat was ridiculously bloated, making you waste turns to do some crazy combo on every random trash encounter, leading to upwards of 10 minute normal battles
    >Graphics got fricked over hard, character models look ugly
    >Is 20 hours long, despite that has like 8 hours of filler
    >ear grating music
    >godawful dungeon designs, have to go through the same place twice at some point
    >story that feels like nothing happened
    >cringe worthy cutscenes, such as Shion's breakdown after seeing Cecily and Cathe and when she reunites with Jin
I think that the gist of it, but it's not good

Why do people keep saying this game is short? Are you skipping all the cutscenes or what? Main story clocks in at like.. 80 -100 hours doesn't it? There was at least 10-20 hours of dialogue and cutscenes in Part 1

Wasn't skipping them at all, just didn't bother with the GS sidequests after being sent on some other wild goose chase to talk to unspecified NPCs.

Legit great opening, but then goes downhill with poorly paced combat and narrative.
Aesthetically the game was a downgrade and music was mostly hit or miss.

Most companies re-use assets across games. Even assets not from the same series or genre.
It cuts down on costs and players don't really notice it anyway.

    >Kaijuu Monogatari

Capcom and Konami also have that problem but they were moronic enough to throw their IP(Suikoden and BoF)

Abhorrent art style, and the combat system is a mess. You starte very fight by storing up 6 AP or whatever the frick the resource was called, then you air juggle the enemy until you're out of AP or the enemy is dead. Repeat. Non-cutscene music also sucks.
