Ranjit is an expert at fighting Sin Eaters, and a lot of the WoL's strength is light associated. It isn't until we've become a WoD later in the expansion that we put him down.

The problem with pa'jeet was it was never explicitly explained why he was as strong as he was. You have to basically fill in the blanks with what little backstory the game gives you of him. And even then you just draw a very broad conclusion of, well he's strong because he spent his life fighting the sin eaters until vauthry.

My WoL spent his life in Northern Thavnair as a Farmer and somewhat of a priest to the local gods. One day a traveling stranger ropes him into saving people from being held hostage by a bandit-gang. That stranger is actually a WoL from a different shard and during the rescue the stranger accidentally shows his powerlevel regarding fighting. My WoL, inspired by this show of Heroism then travels the world, eventually ending up in a carriage bound for Ul'dah. He now fights to get stronger, in hopes of finding the stranger again, and defeat him in a friendly duel.

No, there was more going on. I didn't play DRG but I played MNK and you had the six standard attacks we have now, plus a GCD DoT called Touch of Death, and another GCD DoT crossclassed from WAR called Fracture. You had to manually refresh your Greased Lightning with the third step of your combo, while also maintaining Touch of Death at all times, and Fracture at certain points as long as TP allowed it because TP management was still a thing. MNK's Arm of the Destroyer also had a silence effect on it so if you knew your rotation properly you could align it to silence stuff, mainly I remember doing it on the ADS in Turn 1.
I can't remember much outside of WHM being all about squeezing Clerics on to toss out two dots and using fluid aura as an ogcd (or to frick with people).
DRG was a job you knew meant a slower dungeon run though, MNK to a lesser degree was the same.
WAR, WHM, BLM, SMN was smooth as butter dungeons.

That dude's full of shit. Dragoon had two AoEs (Ring of Thorns and Doom Spike, technically Dragonfire Dive but it had a long cooldown), it's just that ARR was much less AoE-focused in general. Jobs in ARR were, in some regards, more basic than jobs now, but it's generally not a 1:1 comparison. Dragoon didn't have Blood of the Dragon in ARR, but they had upkeep on their Heavy Thrust, Disembowel, and Chaos Thrust, and had a shitload more offensive cooldowns because of cross-class. The animation lock was also pretty punishing.
I attached a screenshot of my WAR hotbar from early HW, before they did any pruning of the job. So other than Deliverance, Fell Cleave, Demolish, Equilibrium, and Raw Intuition, that's all the abilities WAR had at level 50 in ARR.
the number of buttons was almost the same. HW added more buttons, but every expansion after that had the devs delete buttons to make space for new, shiny buttons. The reason the kits at 50 are so fricking now is because they deleted 9000 abilities.
People say it was during his stay at the Crystal Tower but the truth is he was already fanboying over WoL in the first meeting, with those "I can't believe I'm meeting a hero :D" dialogues and games. The difference is that back then his effort was to try and look cool too, later he got flanderized into just being a total fan who thinks he could never be worthy of kissing our boots.

It's a little bit banal going through the whole "what are friends? what is trust?" song and dance over these patch stories but it's not the worst thing there is. The worst thing is trying to imagine how all this will tie into the other big current plot threads of trying to defeat Golbez/Zeromus and rescue Azdaja, because I can't think of a scenario where it won't be the cheesiest thing ever.

I've been assuming that Zero will remind Golbez of the entire reason he started on this journey with his friend, and the meaning of trust and friendship and everything. The idea that Original Golbez wouldn't want to doom another planet to save his own. And it'll make Golbez realize that he's ruined his friend's legacy, so he'll help defeat Zeromus. Not ludicrously cheesy, even if it is on the nose.

if you're thinking of just starting, it's too soon to think about raids. you have like 400 hours of story ahead of you, and everything including those raids is locked behind it.
Use party finder to get groups for the relevant 8-man raids. Or join a static that is recruiting.
Gear is handled a bit differently in 14, it's only two uses are making the current raid tier easier and at times it's used for ultimates (harder content that is ilvl synced). Each time a new raid tier is released they also put out crafted gear that is better than the previous raid tier gear so everyone can gear themselves to meet the base requirements for the new content. There's no way you can judge how many reincarnations have occurred because they've said many times that the passage of time on the Shards is completely arbitrary and untethered.
I think Morwen and Grendolt are so similar entirely because of memes and not for any actual lore reasoning. They're also drastically different, personality-wise (isn't Morwen ACTUALLY a good and generous businesswoman and Grendolt has hair and is a complete hermit that actually enjoys his craft?), so it indicates that shards aren't actually even similar at all, if they even ARE shards of Rowena and Gerolt.

I'm not sure if it is ever stated outright, but we know that the Ixion are Allagan creations and Amon is their mad-scientist-in-chief. I'm pretty sure I recall there being a bunch of lore about the specific scientist who created the Ixion and wound up being the person that inspired the Ixali belief in Garuda. It was a woman.
