I don’t know what the frick is the problem. It’s not me. It’s not that I’m depressed, hell I’m happiest I’ve been in recent history. Anyone else experiencing this?

Wtf is wrong with Control. I enjoyed it. Never finished it, but it wasn't a bad game at all. Maybe a little repetitive but all modern single player games are these days.

Theres a tiny handful of non-euclidean wacko stuff but overall its pretty generic for its premise and the whole wrap around story feels kinda weak and nonsensical. its like a bunch of potentially interesting elements floating in space miles apart with no good connecting tissue.
And they wait way too long to give you the ability to fly, which is the only thing that slightly elevates the gameplay from generic tps.

Control isn't the worst game but it is pretty goddamn mediocre. Try a game with some depth more than run around and shoot. I'd suggest Death Stranding, looks real good on PS5 and has some open world and problem solving. Just don't take the story too seriously, it'd Kojima nonsense but it can be fun if you can laugh at the cringe moments.

Yep it's this. Games today suck ass. Just play older games and you'll feel the same fun excitement you had playing classic games during your youth. I'm 35 and playing old games I missed for the first time recently gives me the exact same feelings as other classics when I was a kid. Most recent example is Super Metroid. I never had an SNES and missed the entire library, and never cared for the series. Well holy shit this game pulled me in and wouldn't let go until I completed it. What a masterpiece.

control is one of the most average and totally just okay games this gen. it does everything competently but nothing well or outstanding. the movement and abilities are fine albeit really underwhelming, the story is boring, the protag is alright, and the shooting is acceptable but never becomes anything but that. its a good like $10 game but a sequel seriously needs to improve on a lot of stuff.
I can't count how many people I know that own consoles but don't play video games. My cousin bought a PS5 for like $800 and probably played it for the first day he owned it.

I had the same problem OP. then I bought a hacked wii that has thousands of games on it and I've been having a blast playing my old favorites from ages past. I really think the industry just sucks now. go replay some games from a decade ago and you'll get your love of vidya back.

Ganes today are unironically incapable of capturing the attention of boomers. They are not made for you.
The games you grew up playing were all mostly complete packages with a few cutscenes and gameplay that challenged you. They only held your hand so far and mostly made you figure out the controls and just let you play on your own. They had a clear sense of progression that challenged you to improve. You got to the end of the game because you became good at playing it. This is why boomers love games like Dark Souls, because they're pretty much the old style of games.
Games today are either full of cutscenes to appeal to the Netflix audience, and the gameplay is easy, flashy, and holds your hand so that you can easily move to the next cutscene. These games are largely incomplete so that you can buy the next movie ticket DLC so you can post pics about how much fun you're having watching the games on r/Gaming.
Or, games are filled with mechanics that are designed to deliver dopamine hits to children with constant item upgrades and the ability to "own" your opponents with microtransactions.
This generation is just not for you.

I've kind of got decision paralysis as a result of concerns around value proposition and the fact that video games are too fricking long now. It used to be it didn't matter if you picked Mega Man 2 or Contra because chances are even if you didn't just run out of lives you could finish both in a few hours max. Now when I start a game, I feel like I'm signing up to undertake an Odyssey. So I end up picking nothing. I miss being able to just say "I'm gonna play this for the morning and then I'm gonna get on with the rest of my day."
I have a 3080 and i just finished marathoning Wizardry 6-8, Modern gaming is an absolute joke. It boggles my mind how a 30 year old game can be more immersive and challenging then even the hardest games of today. I wasted 1200 dollars on this card as well.
