>Good arstyle >Amazing music >Great gameplay and controls >Fun minigames
I cant really think of a flaw besides it needing needing the control sticks to be playable.
This fricker said it, this is one of those games that had graphics with aged gracefully due to the artstyle and aesthetic, sure there's pop-in and shit draw distance at times but otherwise it's peak 32-bit style, similar to Megaman Legends or Crash Bandicoot.
i feel like they always have some of the best setpieces in the games, especially when it's your first introduction to one >on top of a watchtower in 1, only one in the stage >playing the role of a bank robber in 3, also only one in the stage >absolutely littering casino city in 2, with one area having an easy way to stun two at once instead of getting shot at with use of the slingback shooter
why? I've been looking for more old games to get into but I can never tell with Ganker because they're so contrarian and whether they like or hate something, they can almost never explain in depth why.
this game gives me another one of those vibes from here of: "game is good because it's relatively niche and semi unique! and normal people don't think about or mention it too much! also it's got a quirky and atypical visual style" but I downloaded it anyway cuz I really need some shit to play in-between another set of games I'm playing, just don't know if I'll actually find the motivation to open it
Don't feed the contrarian zoomer moron, anon. Ape Escape is fun, comfy, and has great replay value to get the true 100% ending. Can come and go as you please as far as playing is concerned.
I like how you have all these gadgets and you can use them how you want and get creative with them
the animation when you catch a monke is very satisfying
did you buy all the songs? it should be one of them. it also plays right after specter's cutscene in the intro. banana heartbreak destroys it anyway but i know the european version keeps in line with pink's more softspoken voice which hinders the song as someone way too used to the USA version
Finished it last week. It's incredible how well it holds up. The abysmal draw distance it's the only thing that annoyed me but then again it was a psOne game. Even controlling the camera with the d pad didn't feel that bad
Controlling the camera is a largely boring task that distracts from actual gameplay anyway, so the slightly more annoying method of using a d-pad doesn't detract much, since it's just something we've been trained to forget. It's hard to imagine ever totally being rid of such a function, but I often use God Hand and Ape Escape as good examples of an alternative.
i wonder what it would take to make 2 on par with 1 and 3 (aside from make soichi terada the composer).
biggest fix to me is to make the exclusive gadgets not feel as one-note. >bananarang can be moved while putting off the stench so you can lure monkeys around to hit switches or something, possibly kinda like how the genie dancer in 3 can take monkeys off of buttons but mixed with sarusaru big mission's gimmick >water cannon can douse flaming monkeys like possibly having monkeys that go in cannons catch fire after they shoot themselves out, water wheels are basically a slightly different stun club wheel obstacle so just get rid of them >electromagnet and it's sections need to be faster, maybe also be able to bend the magnet so you can fling yourself potentially to another magnet to quickly grab onto (which won't work with the og's two seconds of windup)
Didn't play this game as a kid, but when it's late at night and there's nothing illuminating your room except this game displayed on a CRT through component accompanied by the void of silence being filled in by the hub area music...
It's truly a feeling like no other.
I sometimes like to imagine a timeline where the earth's entire Black person population was vanished and they were all eternally reincarnated into every monkey npc in every copy of Ape Escape currently in existence.
One can dream though...
Soul and good gameplay.
catchin monkeys is fun
>Good arstyle

sound and graphics are A+, gameplay's good too
i literally have the ape head tattoed to me
The apes with the shades are so fricking cool
catching apes and using gadgets is fun
i feel like they always have some of the best setpieces in the games, especially when it's your first introduction to one

Very 90s and boppy
monkes
Simplicity above all else.
It is not
how is it NOT simple?
you know simple isn't necessarily bad btw right?
You have a lot of gadgets and mechanics. Not simple. Mario 64 is simple.
Because the only way to escape is to ape
Stun club always goes on Triangle
for a long time i kept the stun club on circle and the radar on triangle
square will always be the free space for any other gadget button though
OK as long as nets on X we are good
It's not. Frick yourself.

I played Ape escape for the first time like 5 years ago and it was fun. No nostalgia to cloud judgement, it's just soulful PS1 era joy.
Genuinely my favorite game from PS1
bump
Why bump? The answer is clear. Catch monkey = fun. Not catch monkey = not fun.
Why won't Sony bring it back didn't even get a collection like Jak, Sly, Ratchet and Killzone.
Inspired colorful level design, up there with Mario 64 with best 3D platformer of the era
only thing that sucks is the movement is a little stiff today and the camera can get in the way
Black personmonke
catching money is so satisfying
>HIYA! GOTCHA!
>*sputtering phaser effect"
>YEEEEES!
>*gratifying melody plays*
I like how you have all these gadgets and you can use them how you want and get creative with them

Why did they remove Happy Sensation for the Europe release of 3?
they didn't though
?t=111
wtf how come I never heard it in my game then?

Peak PS1
forced soul
Only indietrash can be forced soul, moron
NINTENDO
artificial soul
>artificial soul
No one reply to it
Good Art = Good Game = Do Play
Ape Escape 3 is the best one in the series.
That's not Ape Escape 4
Holy shit what year are you from? I need to know if I'll still be alive
3005. You probably won't be alive but that song about that year by Childish Gambino is played constantly on neuralink brainstations
it wasn't
the controls are fun only in theory but in practice are god awful
The soundtrack is one of the best of all time. The remastered version is great too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UktXBWSU4k

>it's a nuGanker finally stops being lazy and plays an oldGanker game episode
>it's a tranimeposter makes a moronic post episode
I fricking hate these reruns
1 and 3 were good.
2 sucked monkey balls.

you catcha de monke
After listening to JP AE1 Spike for the first time in the WR speedrun I can see why US Spike is that much deeper
get back up there
you still have apes to catch
Didn't play this game as a kid, but when it's late at night and there's nothing illuminating your room except this game displayed on a CRT through component accompanied by the void of silence being filled in by the hub area music...
It's truly a feeling like no other.
Reminder that the version on PSN is a source port and you don't need that shitty subscription tier to buy it.
it is the natural instinct of the white man to want to catch and imprison 'monkeys'. everyone who enjoys this game is definitely a chud
I sometimes like to imagine a timeline where the earth's entire Black person population was vanished and they were all eternally reincarnated into every monkey npc in every copy of Ape Escape currently in existence.
One can dream though...
We all agree this is one of the best tracks right
it's like poetry, it rhymes
>final boss incorporates music from a previous game
specter's second battle theme in 3 being his theme from 1 is also kino
Why won't they make another? After playing Astro's Playroom I got the hunger for a new big budget adventure game like Ape Escape. I NEED MORE APES
