How so? It's a little out there but it's not complicated. It's actually pretty straightforward and simple but in a good way. >Jack and strangers get assigned to Cornelia with Astos as a guide >Job is to act as the warriors of light of Cornelia and 'defeat chaos' to save the world >Turns out Strangers were just glorified janitors and were helping Lufenians flush chaos onto an innocent world over and over again >Jack gradually realizes how fricked up the system actually is and decides he wants to break the system by setting things up so when the right circumstances happen he'll have a shot to pull it off with Astos's guidance >Doesn't go so hot for quite a few loops and he and the boys gradually lose more of their emotions initially due to each new loop >Astos gets sick of this shit after awhile and tries a more direct approach >Shit works >World begins to fall apart >Jack is forced to remember everything once the crystal he left on Sarah in the loop where he commenced his big plan to save Cornelia inevitably broke in her care >Friends force him to kill them to frick him up even more because he can't properly get corrupted with chaos unless he's fully emotionally distraught >works >confront Lufs >KILLS CHAOS >Absorbs his power >Abuses chaos's power to bring himself and all that darkness 2000 years to the start of everything where the Lufenian's timeloops cant touch him and the others and wait for the real warriors of light to be born so they can actually save the world he had nearly helped fricking up beyond repair
Fairly simple shit, really. I know most people lose track of the plot when time stuff gets involved but in this case it's really easy to follow.
It really is. The somewhat hammy dialogue garland spouts in FF1 is even more endearing to me now knowing it's good ol' Jack under that armor.
I don't mind the story, I enjoy the whole "chosen warriors became the villain" thing, but the story telling/execution is just very bad >You cannot interact with your friends outside mission >that cutscene when jack rescue the princess and leave them behind 2 sec they get massacred
>story telling/execution is just very bad
I wouldn't say it's bad but I can admit it could've been done much better. I honestly think the game could have benefited being open world so you can have more interactions between the party outside of missions along with being able to explore more of the areas freely. I would love to see Jack and the party just hanging out and unwinding after hunting down some legendary monster giving some village out there some trouble. That said there's a lot of little things I think it does extremely well like the gradual speech and emoting of the party becoming more and more 'human' as the game goes on and they remember more of who they are. Also Jack's refusing to remember being flipped on it's head in the near end where he's so broken he's BEGGING to be allowed to forget what he's done.
I don't mind the story, I enjoy the whole "chosen warriors became the villain" thing, but the story telling/execution is just very bad >You cannot interact with your friends outside mission >that cutscene when jack rescue the princess and leave them behind 2 sec they get massacred
As much as I love the game even I have to admit doing it that way is a little awkward. If there's any XV did right it was letting you travel freely and having certain things trigger conversation or little mundane events to participate in that feel completely natural.
The game probably had a pretty low budget by final fantasy standards

No there is absolutely passion coming from both of them, the game is nothing if not passionate and sincere in what it wants to be. Having a limited budget and strict deadline doesn't prevent that and if anything the past has shown the opposite to be true.
There are several points throughout the game where you get the chance to talk to your party about what is going on, and regardless they have several moments of conversations during missions anyway. Sophia made it happen to turn Jack into Chaos.
You keep asking this and the answer is always the same, because normies and journos are moronic and incapable of any level of investment or effort no matter how mild, and it's the cancer killing videogames.
Why Jack's game is so disliked by most people and the press?
Also DLCs fricking when?
I just want a fricking date already. Even if the first DLC comes out in like late 2023, I at least want to know the schedule.
Both Square Enix and Team Ninja have been radio silent about not just the DLC, but also the game. The last patch was 1.04 and that was in the middle of May.
>game memed into popularity >game turns out to be mediocre and doesnt actually have anything to back it up besides the cookie-cutter gameplay borrowed from Nioh

The people who hate Jack's game never played it
Even a good chunk of the reviews that speak ill of the game clearly show that they didn't actually engage with the game and its content at all, if even play it
In a way, it is poetic that Jack's game is buried under lies and misconceptions since his quest and goal too are veiled in falsehoods and misinformation, both before and after he becomes Chaos
I'm receiving the collector edition this week.
It notably includes a complete artbook (unlike the digital one), the script of the game and the storyboard of the cutscenes. i'll do my best scanning them.

Let me check. It's got Jack's concept and his concept in armour and all the bosses. I'll double check.
Update. Sadly no Jack design outside of the cover art. No version of Garland (true) concept art, probably cause the CGI stuff wasn't done until the art book was finished.
Of course but his death, at the hands of Jack who remembers him at the very last moment no less, definitely generated a whole lot of negative emotions so it turns out to be all according to keikaku I still do agree that Astos didn't deserve the suffering he got and felt but what's even worse is what the Lufenians did to him after Jack became Chaos. They stripped him of his memories and left him in Cornelia to be a gremlin elf as he appears in FF1
I once said in a SoP thread that Lufenians create these worlds, and forget them themselves, and that all FF games are them recreating FF1s world, then abandoning them. How Astos works, sounds a lot like how the black mages in FF9 work.
Also Jack's design similarities to Cloud, and FF8 being a reverse of what happens between Jack, Princess Sarah, and Garland/Chaos. There are more similarities too.
It's said by Astos the lufenians still originate from the FF1 world. They just achieved a power strong enough to leave it.
They didn't create the other FF world, they just observed them and made some kind of copies of them in the FF1 world (well, until Jack frick them over) as experiments. The only world where they had to directly take the darkness themselves instead of doing it secretly is the FF15 world because everything already was completely fricked by the darkness.
I'm only guessing at possibilities when I say the Lufenians create the FF worlds, and then forget them. They themselves aren't in control of everything, and are being lead. When you look at it, all FF worlds are similar. You even have to realize this game is essentially Kingdom Hearts, just for Final Fantasy.
That said, how do you think Final Fantasy XVI fits into this?

doubtful, Yoshida is a huge Ivalicegay (as is much of CB3, they came from the FF12 team) so if it's connected to anything, it's either that or a shard from XIV it would be chunni as frick but I really want them to at least make an attempt at referencing back to the other FF games/connecting them now that SoP is a thing
Having the realization that all of the FF games, which I once thought were just different titles with the same world building tropes, are actually just different timelines born from FF1 blew my fricking mind and made me love the series more.
Sadly unlike the fiends, the "new" Astos won't have any memory, or even the same look or personallity, as it never got abducted by the Lufenians.
Astos plan never had time travel in mine. He wanted Jack to go to Lufenia and frick them up directly, so that he could still survive.
If a new FFO is made I would actually prefer it to be standalone. Jack is good because his story has a clear ending. FFO2 won't happen though...I would have loved the Emperor to have a cool story though
It also mostly works with Jack as it's revealed Garland actually was a good guy all along in a way back in FF1 and ushers the party into fighting Chaos himself.
If they ever did, modern FF would be easier to make stories from. That said, they could also be accounts of what happens from the villains side from others who witness the stories, not just from the villains themselves.
I genuinely feel like SoP might actually be the single most underrated game of the past decade. I can't actually remember the last time I saw a game get such completely unearned negativity. Jackbros got done dirty.
It's certainly up there, it even outdoes Nioh 1 and 2 on that front. The few issues that are in the game are so heavily overstated and all the massive strengths of the game are either completely glossed over (because they require someone to actually care about videogames beyond bland surface-level observations to delve into them) or flipped entirely on their head and heavily misunderstood to be then used as a "problem" with the game.
I had no big issue playing on 1.04. 1080p with 6600xt. Only lagging when there is too many particle effect which is jack dusting enemy close up. Other than that gameplay and cutscene is smooth
One thing I don't get - are the four fiends at the end actually his friends, or did Jack go full chaos schitzo and imagine they were his friends talking to him?
Pretty sure they're from past timelines originally, (they'd have to be to be able to appear in the timeline when Jack finally turns Chaos), but the darkness being present and taken back means they'd all remember everything that happened and are essentially the same ones from the last timeline as well. That's how Jack can ask them about the plan to turn him into Chaos and the events on that last timeline and they understand what he's on about. But that makes me realize that Jack and the party might still exist in human form and be sent to Cornelia 2000 years after in that Chaos timeline.
The log describing Tiamat mentions that after Sophia originally became a fiend, the Lufenians didn't recover her before wiping the timeline and in the game's loop, she appears after Tiamat is killed so she's effectively the original incarnation of herself. And the only reason why Jed and Ash get to be recycled is because Astos kept it secret that fiend versions of them existed. As such, since Jack and co.'s plan has come to fruition and everything, Lufenia probably won't send another batch of them out of fear they'll be used to double the amount of fiends and capital C Chaos out for their blood
The four fiends are the four friends but they most likely look 100% like their fiend forms and Jack is just imagining them, and himself, in their human forms
I really wish they hadnt rushed it with shoestring budget. Its the fricking nioh devs and graphics are worse, movement sucks, level sucks. I wanna cry rn
Just go to google images and search for 'stranger of paradise sophia'
The few non-lewd pics and official renders should be enough for you to get off. Or do you not think that Sophia is hot enough on her own?
>Hate Prompto in XV but unironically love Jed in SoP despite being pretty much the same character and having significantly less screentime
How did they do it?
because the plot is fricking moronic
Frick off Lufenian
How so? It's a little out there but it's not complicated. It's actually pretty straightforward and simple but in a good way.
>Jack and strangers get assigned to Cornelia with Astos as a guide
>Job is to act as the warriors of light of Cornelia and 'defeat chaos' to save the world
>Turns out Strangers were just glorified janitors and were helping Lufenians flush chaos onto an innocent world over and over again
>Jack gradually realizes how fricked up the system actually is and decides he wants to break the system by setting things up so when the right circumstances happen he'll have a shot to pull it off with Astos's guidance
>Doesn't go so hot for quite a few loops and he and the boys gradually lose more of their emotions initially due to each new loop
>Astos gets sick of this shit after awhile and tries a more direct approach
>Shit works
>World begins to fall apart
>Jack is forced to remember everything once the crystal he left on Sarah in the loop where he commenced his big plan to save Cornelia inevitably broke in her care
>Friends force him to kill them to frick him up even more because he can't properly get corrupted with chaos unless he's fully emotionally distraught
>works
>confront Lufs
>KILLS CHAOS
>Absorbs his power
>Abuses chaos's power to bring himself and all that darkness 2000 years to the start of everything where the Lufenian's timeloops cant touch him and the others and wait for the real warriors of light to be born so they can actually save the world he had nearly helped fricking up beyond repair
Fairly simple shit, really. I know most people lose track of the plot when time stuff gets involved but in this case it's really easy to follow.
I like how neatly this game fits as a prequel to FF1. It's incredibly easy to see the Garland in the og game being Jack.
It really is. The somewhat hammy dialogue garland spouts in FF1 is even more endearing to me now knowing it's good ol' Jack under that armor.

>You cannot interact with your friends outside mission

you can, it's an option in the menu. You can talk to people of Cornelia too.
As much as I love the game even I have to admit doing it that way is a little awkward. If there's any XV did right it was letting you travel freely and having certain things trigger conversation or little mundane events to participate in that feel completely natural.

This just reeks of a cut HUB or otherwise cutting corners to push the game out.

tfw Astos died in regret, even if the plan worked, he never got over Jack forgetting him.
To be fair, Jack forgetting him allowed for Astos to become overwhelmed with despair and darkness which gave Jack even more Chaos juice to absorb
It's actually said in one of his writing he was desperatly hoping Jack to remembers him until it is too late. He didn't wanted to die.
Of course but his death, at the hands of Jack who remembers him at the very last moment no less, definitely generated a whole lot of negative emotions so it turns out to be all according to keikaku

How long will this stay on epic?
this, I'd play it if it was on Steam. shame they brought 7R before this game, should've brought them both at once at the very least.
No idea. Hoping less than 2 years. Square said nothing on this.
Nightmare scenario: it stays on epic due to lack of players
I bough it on console to not support epic.
FF7 remake was December epic June steam so six months seems safe
Neo TWEWY is still on Epic and it's been 9 months. I think Epic didn't want to pay for 12 months of FF7R because SE might have asked for too much.
Sex with Neon
I brought Jack's game 3 times, just to support him.

Jack is pure fun. Journalists hate fun, it's too unstructured and chaotic. They HATES CHAOS.
