Why keep up with modern games?

Old games are easier to run, smaller, fully featured and at most you gotta patch it up to work.
All I've seen in newshit (especially AAA) is that it's cancerous industry, and sure, there's couple of indies that are new that are good like zachtronic's games or Olli Olli but most of the time, I rahter just play something old that I know is a good time, like Need for Speed or X-Com

I still have CRT monitor but I rarely use it because I prefer playing on a bigger screen with high brightness. But low resolution games look better on the tube, aliasing isn't as pronounced.

I see where you're coming from but I struggle with finding old games that are remotely good. I browse GOG (as an example) and my eyes glaze over and most of the games genuinely look shit. Don't get me wrong, I can still enjoy old-ass games from the 90s but I struggle in finding shit I haven't played before. The latest old game I really enjoyed was I Have No Mouth, great aesthetics and sounds. Any of you able to suggest a way to find old/er games? Could be more of a 'me' problem as I don't even like most newer games that try to 'look' old (but some are amazing at least)

      define old.
      before 2020? before 2010? before 2000? before 1990?

also literally just play some. anyone's eyes will glaze over when they're looking at a list of 2000 games to pick from. just commit to one and see if it's any good.
giving recs would at least require you to name some games or genres you like.

      >. Any of you able to suggest a way to find old/er games
I just use charts, what gog recommends, and digging in a company. Example
      >play Doom
      >go to /vr/'s FPS section
      >see download of games
      >see one called Marathon
      >play that
      >learn it's from Bungie
      >look up other works
      >Myth/Oni
      >play those two
In the other example, I would just browse on gog but keep the release tag to be within my threshold https://www.gog.com/en/games?genres=strategy&releaseDateRange=1983,2005, as well as abandonware sites.
Still if you're like me, you're easy to please. A D game that has some soul/quality to it is more than enough to make it worth your while.

    I don't.
If anything worthwhile does come out people will still be talking about it a few years from now after it has lost the luster of being "new". It's like having an organic filter for games.

Once in a blue moon a game comes out, that forces me to upgrade my fricking PC just to play it for hundred of hours.
Last time it was Nioh 2.
    Now it's Armored Core 6.
But mostly I play old shit and indies, yeah.

AC6 will probably be better a year from now once all the updates are out.

It'll get one DLC if we lucky.
The only source of new possible content is realistically mods.

every game gets patches to polish things up, balance the numbers, work out bugs etc. even if there's no major content releases.
that's the thing really. it's not that good games never get released. it's that even when they do, they're better when they aren't new anymore.

There is already a bunch of balance mods for AC6 while devs sit on their ass.

      AC6 runs on a potato.

        define potato
        also define "runs"
I supports 120 fps, so I wanted to play at 120 fps
30 fps is not "runs" for me

By that logic you should also define the resolution and settings.
          1080p low 120FPS vs 4K high 120FPS for example.
1660S should run 1080P max 70-90 FPS, I don't know how CPUs are scaling.

            Anonymous

1080p@120 fps maxed settings is what I aim for. I don't need 4k.

            >I supports 120 fps, so I wanted to play at 120 fps
Didnt know you were autistic, my bad.

I believe I did mention Nioh 2 and AC6 in one post, of course I'm fricking autistic lmao.

That's what I liked about computers. You could get one at any price and still have plenty of gaming options. That's less viable now that legacy systems are being phased out.

i've literally played every old game I would want to play. "old games" aren't some evergreen wellspring of artistry. at this point I can only move forward

This year, 80% of the game I played were older games.
I only tried AC6 and Cyberpunk this year. Maybe Baldur gate 3 because everyone talked about it like the second coming of christ, but it will probably be a 6-7/10 like Cyberpunk.
