Why not make a new community series of codexes that's actually balanced, and use those in tournaments instead?

Why not make a new community series of codexes that's actually balanced, and use those in tournaments instead? Just cut GW out of their own game. They clearly can't run it right so why let them?

That would require The Nerds to put their energy into something productive

plenty of autists have done this sort of thing. the problem is circulation and adaption. a company is able to do that sort of thing. closest you'll ever get is one page rules and james has blatantly been trying to play catch up to that.

Well what edition should be made the legacy fan supported edition of 40k?
If I had to wager a guess it would be either fourth edition or index era 8th edition.

if youve ever read any of the Warhammer threads the people In it have no idea whats OP and for a good part of 8th thought the old "if you bring something OP ill just table you with superior tactics" would still work

    Why not just play OPR?

Because some people would rather die than play a game that's not Warhammer. A community codex would get around that irrational mental barrier. "It's still Warhammer, we just fixed the codex!"

Some people would rather have a crunchier version of a Warhammer 40k alternative.
No reason both fan editions can't coexist. With OPR being the shrimplified edition and whatever codex getting fan made support being the crunchier fan edition.

You have to understand anon, GW has spent decades (particularly the last decade) cultivating a following of consumerist midwits who are deathly afraid of falling off the "current thing" treadmill. We're talking the sort of people who would genuinely rather whine incessantly online, throw their minis in the trash and buy a new army instead of simply playing an older version they prefer with their friends, or even just look at alternates like OPR or Xenos Rampart.

      >Xenos rampant
Really how is that game and how does it take to handling vehicles?
      >t. guard treadhead.

You know what I really want? Something like OPR with streamlined base rules but semi-complex faction rules.

Because OPR is flavorless slop with dogshit melee and morale rules.

This. I really don't understand why people let GW mandate their fun. Nobody, unless you're a sweaty tournament homosexual, is forcing anyone to play current edition. It's the same with how GW paints their minis. 'Oh no, they painted a Black person, my world is crumbling apart'. It's like they belief whatever GW does THEY have to do also. It's fricking insane, I really don't get this 'please spoon-feed me, but I'll forever be butthurt because it will never be what I want' mindset. You know they won't change things into the way you'd want it to be, so why, like some masochist, do these people keep coming back for more? The greatest thing GW has ever pulled is cultivating a horde of braindead sheep. Who, no matter what, will always buy their products

This anon is spot on. GW is not the sum-total of 40K, and 40K is not the sum-total of the hobby.
If 40K is going to attract morons and degenerates and commercialist zombies, then why not move on from it, or evolve it?

Because then it wouldn't be 40k. These people don't want a hobby, they want 40k.

That's an entirely fair point, Anon.

To expand on it (and what I said before), though: I wonder if they perhaps *should*, given 40K's limitations and flaws.
And, hey - if the culture war continues hitting 40K with collateral damage as it is, those people/fans may soon find they don't have a choice.

It's not really GW. It's a product of social media and everyone being connected. The same has happened with TTRPGs with D&D.
That's why 2nd edition fans displeased with 3rd created their own Battle Bible PDF that is still being updated and played today by them. By the mid 2010s it was too late to create again those type of offshoot fan communities.

We called it the Warhammer armies project and it was pretty good all things considered. Undead were bullshit tho.

    >and use those in tournaments instead?
Because then you have to get some level of agreement out of a wide range of disparate spergs with clashing ideas on what makes for a good ruleset.

The community can't simultaneously play and design a game. Also they'll sue you if you do anything even remotely related to their intellectual property and make any money whatsoever.

So it's the same as open source software. No one has time or ability anymore. Everyone decent has a high paying high demand job. Everyone else is a transexual.
