Didn't care for The Pitt. I liked Zeta's atmosphere and cool set pieces like the death ray being able to blow up a huge chunk of the Earth. I don't remember anything about Pitt except that there was some disease and a baby and oh no moral choice at the end. Maybe just a difference in aesthetic preference between you and I, but I'd need to replay them both since it's been ages.
Zeta is a really, really painful combat gauntlet/slog that just isn't fun. There are some wacky/cool ideas that are memorable, but they're a comparatively minor part of the whole experience, which is mostly dull corridor shooting.
I forgot about the snot filter and the thumbnail genuinely looked like a river.

I played 1 and 2, they're good, it's just that they are 25 years old so there's nothing left to discuss. New Vegas stayed relevant because of muh politics and Fallout 3 and 4 stayed relevant because they are the most brainless and accessible.

Gameplay wise, yes, it is pretty brainless and accessible, but it has a high word count and a somewhat more involved story/plot/setting, which is why it was so popular with pseuds. That's not to say NV is some incredible work of literary genius, it's just that FO3 is the product of Emil Paglialurororo, a man who takes pride in his own stupidity and ineptitude, which makes NV (the writing equivalent of a college essay or English assignment) seem like high art in comparison.

It has been more than a decade since I've played it but I don't remember there being that much reading, even compared to 3. When I think of wordy rpgs I think of Torment and its spiritual sequel, not NV.

It's popular with pseuds because every bethesda game is popular, but NV is the only you're allowed to like in certain crowds.
NV has a super high word count, like 3x as much dialogue as Fallout 3 recorded. It only requires you to turn your brain on a little to engage with it, but that's still too much for thirdies and 8 year olds. Again, it's not that NV is particularly amazing, it's that FO3 is that bad and brainless in every single way imaginable. FO3 is basically written by a mental 13 year old, and NV is written by the equivalent of a first year university student.
New Vegas is not and was never good or smart, it was just a bethesda game not written by subhumans

gayout nv is a literal baby "rollercoaster" that loops on itself and has "many" things to see from this loop.
Fallout 4 has good enough exploration elements but the fact that it railroads you by the first part of the game until it opens up around the university area. Then it's kino exploration despite the main quest not being good

It's zoomers who played Fallout 3 when they were 8 years old and third worlders who got filtered by NV having too many words. Fallout 3 was praised on release and subsequently shit on by Ganker for being a watered down Elder Scrolls with guns that lacked good role playing and destroyed the original lore. I would really struggle to call Fallout 3 or 4 fun. Fallout 3 is extremely dull mechanically, and Fallout 4 is a game primarily designed for short, 1 hour bursts after work or school. It's the most bare-bones possible shooter with an unimpressive and tedious crafting/settlement system. Neither game has interesting characters, or stories, or ideas, so they can only be engaged with at a basic mechanical level, and both games are extremely antiquated in that regard, even for their era. Some contemporary shooters from Fallout 4's time were Wolfenstein: The New Order, Titanfall 1, Far Cry 3/4, Rainbow Six: Siege, and Call of Juarez: Gunslinger (Titanfall 2 and Doom 2016 came out the year after), and a contemporary shooter from 3's time was... it's actually hard to pin one down because SO many shooters came out in the early-mid 2000s that were vastly superior in every way.
TL;DR I guess they're fun if you like VATS and the Bloody Mess perk.

I played the shit out of F3, NV, Oblivion and Skyrim when they came out, but I absolutely can't play any of them for more than an hour or two now. I have more fun imagining a modded playthrough and looking at mods more than actually playing them

It's complicated. See, people really want to like New Vegas. But they can't admit they like it here because they'll get called a troony. So they go, ok, let's say we like Fallout 3 instead. But they can't like that either because some youtuber they don't like made a video talking about how it's ok to like Fallout 3. But *another* youtuber they don't like also made a video shitting on 3 and praising New Vegas, so they're back to square one - can't say they like New Vegas but also can't say they like/dislike 3. So hey, there's still Fallout 4, right? Well, now that's an objectively bad game, so it hurts to pretend they like it. And the same youtuber who said it's ok to like 3 also made a video saying it's ok to like 4, so that works out - naturally they can't like 4. But they also really, really, really don't want to be called a troony for liking the one game they actually deep down adore. And that alone is enough to push a man to trash New Vegas and praise 3/4, if only for appearances. On their second monitor they're starting their new playthrough of NV.
