Mario takes on bowsers new army as Bowser decides to go mad scientist and start giving all his troops the power-ups and starts mixing power ups together going to each area to create the ultimate powerup to finally defeat mario
Mario now has powerups as part of his moveset acting like costumes he can switch to at a moment's notice. Costumes can do shit like the spring suit or a mole suit or tanuki or some other new shit
Areas are filled with new enemies you can absorb costumes from and often have themes that clash together like a forest mixed with a commercialized theme park.
