Why there is no "showdown" version of the Contests. At least the GBA version should be easier to program than the DS version

too cerebral for comptards, which barely register as sapient, and are more akin to a biological markov chain
It's more difficult to gather 4 players at once than just 2
Why not just add computer opponents for the remaining slots?
1v1 contests could be interesting
the anime had them
They already have Free-for-all random battles, which gathers 4 players.
The problem is no one would fricking play it.
contests were rightfully seen as a complete waste of time up until last year or so
Objectively wrong, in depth side content like Contests is exactly what Pokemon needs right now more than ever.
What's wrong with 6's contests? I really enjoyed 3, 4 and 6.
contests have always been shitty bloat and you only want them back because you're desperate
>bloat
You want LESS content in your games? We don't even get battle towers anymore, ffs.
i want content that isn't pointless bullshit
if contests were added to a future game 99% of players would go back to ignoring them
>anon forgot fun is subjective
if this whole argument is subjective how can i be objectively wrong
What people find fun is subjective, but some people think contests are fun. Just because you think it's pointless, doesn't mean other people don't. Therefore: it's objectively wrong that contests aren't a waste of time.
Try to keep up.
>What's wrong with 6's contests?
Two things that come to mind are Sheen and Affection.
There's no effective Sheen stat in ORAS, which is good considering Sheen prior, but it also undermines some depth in the raising portion of Contests; why breed for natures, blend the rarest berries, etc. I'd rather deal with the old system as long as there's a way to lower and/or reset sheen and condition.
People rightfully criticize Affection for its effect in battles and in Gen 6, how it cannot be lowered. What were they thinking when they decided to have Contest participation raise Affection if the Pokémon's OT is you? The game is basically saying that if I want to keep the game's difficulty not at very easy, I have to ban my team from doing contests until the postgame, make a new team just for contests, or use only traded Pokémon.
Also Cosplay Pikachu being a "win button".
>until last year
what happened?
never mind, I remembered that BD/SP exists, though I didn't knew it changed people's perception of it.
The gen 3 contests were the only ones worth playing, frick all the bullshit added in the later games.
Gen 4 was still playable, if a downgrade
but it was all downhill from there
What I wouldn’t give to be a complete shitter in random online contests that gives no fricks about winning, only making everybody else’s performances tank as well
That would still make someone a winner, and the game itself is quite designed to enable that playstyle, so it's a completely valid way of play and doesn't necessarily ruins the experience as that behaviour should be expected from non-AI players
I mean. That's one way you could play.
Contests existed as emergency and convenient anime filler.
Prove me wrong
then why would they make it so in-depth?
>20 ribbons dedicated to contests
>Every move given contest types and effects
>Pokeblocks being so complex, even used in the safari zone
>Expanded on in the next generation, then perfected in gen6.
The only reason they killed it is because it would be too hard to keep adding contest stats to the moves, that or gen5 killed it's momentum as a side feature.
Gen 6 contests are terrible. They are nowhere near as good as 4. Even bdsp had better contests
bdsp contests are just a single button rhythm game you shitter.
Gen6 brought the visual flare that was always intended, while keeping the same mechanics and gameplay loop.
I'd rather do musicals in Gen5 than do another bdsp contest.
>They are nowhere near as good as 4. Even bdsp had better contests
Don't get me started on how bad gen 4's are even ORAS is better by virtue of having generally similar mechanics to the gen 3 version. Gen 4 is objectively worse given they cut out every ounce of depth the mini game had
>no move combos
>no jamming moves
>no status effects
Even if it did have these things, the highest scoring player goes last in gen 4 meaning there would be absolutely no danger anyway.
And to top it off no pokemon with only one move can enter contests so frick you if you wanted those ribbons on a ditto or something.
Not to mention it's so piss easy that you don't even need to invest poffins into it.
>objectively
kys yourself
He's right though, gen 4 downgraded a lot of shit.
As someone who actually plays DP contest, i gotta say the poffins are about 50% of the game. The dressing part alone gives HUGE momentum to the npcs if your pokémon doesnt have good traits and its respective scarf/band that increases its contests stats; doesnt matter if you had the most optimal dressing for the theme.
The dancing part is hard but can be solved with skill, but the poffins are impossible to get in their most optimal version if you play alone, as i do bc i play on emulator.
I havent played the gba contest in years but will try play them again
This explains what I don't like about gen 4 Pokémon Contests so well.
My least favorite part is having to pick between 3 judges when making an appeal and hoping my opponents don't pick the same judge.
Contests are for femoids
Femoids don't care for battles, that's why they tried musicals and contests
i think literally no one completely understands how contests and the moves work
tried looking into it and not a single source had even most of the required info
>https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Contest
Also the moves screen literally tells you what the moves do.
Also, the GBA version is the only one that should really be played, since I wasn't a fan of dumbing down some of the mechanics in favor of a rhythm mini-game. The flip side to this is that the GBA version is extremely difficult to master, and relies on a lot of luck. But it's cool how the Pokémon moves actually end up serving a secondary function.
I also love the contests because it shows the possibility of people perusing other careers with Pokémon that don't involve battling for once. Kinda makes me wish we could get more side-content like that. Remember the Machop in gen 1 helping flatten the ground for the foundation of a building? Maybe we could train a few Pokémon do some jobs like that, like cultivating a farm. Get your ground types to till the land, plant and flying types to spread seeds, water types to water the seeds, etc. I wouldn't even mind a Recettear-type mini-game where you're minding a shop and you can choose a Pokémon to help you stock or sell items.
>the GBA version should be easier to program than the DS version
>Obtain Claydol
>Cosmic Power
>Ancient Power
>Secret Power
>Explosion
Enjoy your 25 ribbons
I'd like it if we got a side series where we do Pokémon Contests as a Pokémon Coordinator instead of Pokémon Battles.
I like gen 3 Pokémon Contests the best. I want Pokémon Contests to be as in-depth as battles. I want Pokémon Contests to have a competitive scene with some kind of Smogon-like meta.
>I want Pokémon Contests to have a competitive scene with some kind of Smogon-like meta
I didn't think it was possible for me to dislike contests more but you managed that with one simplle sentence.
That doesn't really explain why you think that but OK.
I'm male.
These responses to my simple post are funny.
Also:
>Pokémon Contests are for girls.
Filtered.
shittered
breasts or gtfo
Contests are just not that interesting at the end of the day, and in the actual games they don't really provide much incentive to do them
>they don't really provide much incentive to do them
You don't need incentive, it's just fun.
Man, the younger generation is fricked up
>it's just fun
It's not though, it's baffling and then once you learn the mechanics it's trivial, there's zero skill curve with it whatsoever
Anon, you can just enjoy something without needing to dedicate a chunk of your life to learning how to do it.
Hell we're on a board about one of the most simplistic RPG series on the face of the planet.
>you can just enjoy something without needing to dedicate a chunk of your life to learning how to do it.
I guess that's the sperg in me, I like breaking things down in my brain. You have a good point though
>try hand at contests because hoenn shitters claim they are omg so fun and shit
>win all of them even with shit pokeblocks, in the hardest difficulty
Am I supposed to be impressed?
Did you do them in RSE or ORAS?
Emerald
Because contests are for girls you Troon.
Because the judges would be bias.
