Should I even be listening to FLAC files if I have my 100 dollar headphones connected directly to the tower? I random mix of mp3 and flac, whatever happens to be at the top of SLSKs search query, but that shit is quickly taking up a lot of space.
kinda sorta
There's a few reasons but it's definitely an optimization thing.
Lets say you have separate objects in the world, each both static unmoving, and they side by side, each object has to be indexed to display them in the world, each with its own separate perforamnce hit.
But, if you combine both objects in the 3d mech and textures asset as one single object, you now only have to render one asset instead of using 2.
This now also has the problem of balooning game size, so instead of having the assets of 2 objects, you now have the 2 assets + the combined assets. And imagine doing this hundreds and thousands of times for multiple different objectrs and entire buildings.
For example, instead of a building + each and every object, you now have those assets + an entire building combined with each objects assets to count as one indexed objects.
This doesnt even get into audio and compression itself, each of which has its own hurdles I dont even know about since I've only done asset "optimizations."
modern games literally do this to take up the valuable real estate on consoles
if you can only have 3 games installed at a time, you are more likely to pick a single game per genre instead of playing it's competitors
ergo, more likely to participate in it's ecosystem and buy mtx
it's literally israeli tricks but yeah let's blame trannies for bad optimization
we really should have the fricking option to only download a game in a single fricking language in this day and age
it's amazing how much space that shit takes
Its a marketing tactic to make games take up space on your hard drive because its not "space" to them, it's "real estate". The less space you have for other games, the more time you spend playing theirs. If its a live service, all the more reason for you to spend money potentially.
Thank unabated free trade for that, efficiency doesnt always make the most profit, but manipulating your consumers does.
expect the trend to get worse as storage space becomes more commonly accessible
I loved Shadow of mordor but homie it's 150GB.
It runs amazing and had competent devs but no texture even with the HQ texture pack looks even close to being worthy of 150GB, maybe 30GB at most with the multiple maps
>the pc market used to be "hey, your x years old hardware could still get on max setting with a minor tweaks, no worries :)" >now turn into "oh, you don't had the latest flagship? goodluck running this shit, no refunds"
why pc suddenly turn into console?(if its now the newest thing, you're fricked)
Devs just dont give a shit anymore, they expect the latest version of engine will do all the heavy lifting.
When it doesnt they think "well its PC they can just power through it with better hardware"
Then they frickin complain when their games fail and dont sell and keep getting refunded.
Miss autists like John Carmack being pure schizos when it came to optmizing the most insanely miniscule of details so their team can do things they never thought possible.
We really lost something special with the exodus of white software engineers.
ah hitman 2
>hitman 3 also includes hitman 2 AND 1 and is 50% the size
how the FRICK does that happen?
Thats why i only play japanese games

no reason not to remove any snags in the chain
if you can't hear a difference then it's just wasted hard drive space
If you have decent ears you can hear the difference between average mp3 and flac. You're unlikely to hear the difference between m4a and flac, though.
v0 and FLAC are indistinguishable for 99.9% of setups. FLAC is not used because it sounds really good--it's used because it's lossless
192 bitrate is good enough for me with my IEM earbuds. Good sound with a small file size.
>t. 23k songs in my music library
You know it's worth the money the more space it takes up.
are we supposed to guess the game?
im guessing bg3?
>consoles suck at reading compressed information
>devs uncompress everything for consoles
>this means 200 gb games
Games are absolutely not this big on console storage
source?

I said this in a previous thread and people and was ignored
>and people and was ignored
I see why you were ignored
As much as troony pajeet optimization makes sense, taking up all the space on a console makes more sense.
Or I pick none of them and continue not playing anything so bloated
The cuckoo trick. Take up so much space other games can't fit so you have to play their game
Thats a good name for it, storage cuckolding. I thinking using the word
>cuckold
helps illustrate the image of an egg falling out of the nest.
audio files for every languages, that's why
fricking esls
we really should have the fricking option to only download a game in a single fricking language in this day and age
it's amazing how much space that shit takes
You're like a little baby, you should install FS2020 with all the free world updates, the azure cache and the constant 50mbps internet requirements
>go to reinstall that the other day
>had to fricking let it run overnight bc of how shit their installer is
I had almost forgotten about that
Even if you have top tier internet it doesn’t save you from that game
That or sometimes installer get stuck and you need to re-launch it to continue downloading shit
Its a marketing tactic to make games take up space on your hard drive because its not "space" to them, it's "real estate". The less space you have for other games, the more time you spend playing theirs. If its a live service, all the more reason for you to spend money potentially.

expect the trend to get worse as storage space becomes more commonly accessible
>just installed a new 4TB drive
>can now install as many as several videogames at once
get the frick out the way, casual
do people really
>25gb are uncompressed movie for end game credits
It doesn't matter how many tb my hard drive has if your game is bigger than 20gb I won't even look at it.
i like how much warframe has decreased in size over the years
Warframe is coded by autists like Steve that actually care about optimization
They reduced the game size down to what, 30 gigs?
Because you don't play good games.
The largest game worth playing is just over 16 GB.
I loved Shadow of mordor but homie it's 150GB.
It runs amazing and had competent devs but no texture even with the HQ texture pack looks even close to being worthy of 150GB, maybe 30GB at most with the multiple maps
>Shadow of mordor
meant Shadow of War
i remember the first time i played shogun 2 and saw it was like 25gbs. nearly shit my pants
Because optimization is no longer valued with development
>the pc market used to be "hey, your x years old hardware could still get on max setting with a minor tweaks, no worries :)"

Who cares? It's 2024, there's no excuse not to have multiple terabytes in your system.
