I don't think TotK took six years. I think it started in earnest in early 2019, changed development focuses a few times, was barely worked on in 2020, then pushed to the end in 2021. It would have come out in 2022 if Elden Ring weren't the massive critical hit it was.

RPGs are almost universally mediocre, and Zelda is the one thing that actually does all the things RPGs should do but don't. Where are the RPGs with schedule systems that let me manipulate npcs by having conversations with them which differ and lead to different things depending on what I'm wearing, let me discover hidden sequences by playing music or choosing who I want to try to give a given item to etc. What RPG even has anything like the hookshot?

You can't go wrong with Super, Zero Mission (which is a remake of Metroid 1) 2D wise, or Prime 1. I consider those to be the pinnacle of the series. Prime 2 is also excellent, but it's a bit more difficult and can feel tedious if you're new to it. Prime 3 is a very streamlined and actiony 1st person shooter compared to it's predecessors while also being less difficult. It's still a good game but IMO the worst of the current trilogy, it also comes with the gimmicky motion controls for puzzles and shit.
The other 2D titles are all good with Metroid 2/Samus Returns being the weakest because of their world design (just going around to different layers of the planet killing Metroids). Fusion is great but is far more streamlined than the other 2D entries, but has pretty great atmosphere and Dread is probably the best gameplay feel of the 2D games with the best bosses but with somewhat mediocre world and disappointing music.

I enjoyed the game, but TOTK is not all that far removed from BOTW so I didn't get the same amount of enjoyment out of it as I did back then with BOTW. Also the shrine puzzles were not as good in TOTK in my opinion. Temples were an improvement but still could be much better. Underground area had a few cool things but over-all was kind of meh.

It all started going downhill with Wind Waker. A lot of the bullshit in Breath of the Wild started in Wind Waker, come to think of it. I also remember all the discourse about Ocarina of Time being "bad" coming after Wind Waker and that horseshit about OoT not being a "real" Zelda game (even though it's practically a 3D remake of Link to the Past).

You have the power to "build" a character that is really good at fighting, but really bad at bartering with shopkeepers. I think Zelda has so many hallmarks of what is typically considered an RPG that none of this matters. It’s more of an RPG than a lot of JRPGs that don’t have any role playing at all, and feature stats that are window dressing with no meaning or choice involved. You play a role as an unnamed silent protagonist that represents (you), buy/find items and equipment to become stronger, explore dungeons, and do side quests. It’s a fricking role playing game.

Action-Adventure, that simply leans harder into the Adventure part in the same way DMC is Action-Adventure but simply leans harder into the Action part. There are no RPG elements in Zelda, the stats in II don't even matter since you can beat the whole game at base.

Super Metroid, it's the pinnacle of the genre. It's also a good lesson to see how bad 3D Zelda is.
You can't go wrong with Super, Zero Mission (which is a remake of Metroid 1) 2D wise, or Prime 1. I consider those to be the pinnacle of the series. Prime 2 is also excellent, but it's a bit more difficult and can feel tedious if you're new to it. Prime 3 is a very streamlined and actiony 1st person shooter compared to it's predecessors while also being less difficult. It's still a good game but IMO the worst of the current trilogy, it also comes with the gimmicky motion controls for puzzles and shit.
The other 2D titles are all good with Metroid 2/Samus Returns being the weakest because of their world design (just going around to different layers of the planet killing Metroids). Fusion is great but is far more streamlined than the other 2D entries, but has pretty great atmosphere and Dread is probably the best gameplay feel of the 2D games with the best bosses but with somewhat mediocre world and disappointing music.

Because it was just a little more of BotW, any discussion that was there to be had about that game was already discussed years ago and what was there to be talked about in terms of what was added amounted to just little over a month. It just proves that this is overpriced DLC that doesn't justify its dev time of 6 years.
I enjoyed the game, but TOTK is not all that far removed from BOTW so I didn't get the same amount of enjoyment out of it as I did back then with BOTW. Also the shrine puzzles were not as good in TOTK in my opinion. Temples were an improvement but still could be much better. Underground area had a few cool things but over-all was kind of meh.
TotK and BotW are not Zelda games.

What the frick were they doing. Im the biggest Zelda gay and I remember defending this shit because I was assuming they were hiding everything and being secretive. Fuse is terrible and shit to use mid combat, all of it's wacky effects are just from tools in botw. Don't need to mention arrow fusing. BOTW already had a content problem, but did they really think adding another map was necessary. Imagine having 1 boss unique to an entire map. What a fricking nothing burger of a game. Also

I don't really consider lookout landing a town, but it's a good addition. A good hub area and that's all. It's just strange to me that so much time has passed in that world and they've done nothing to rebuild

It all started going downhill with Wind Waker. A lot of the bullshit in Breath of the Wild started in Wind Waker, come to think of it. I also remember all the discourse about Ocarina of Time being "bad" coming after Wind Waker and that horseshit about OoT not being a "real" Zelda game (even though it's practically a 3D remake of Link to the Past).
