To make you question their utility 30 years later on an anonymous image board, sega devs were truly visionary.

As I remember, you could only find that in Mushroom Hill.
    Or am I mistaken?

Well in the very least there's that hidden crevice above Hidden Palace with every single monitor type in the game (except the Eggman) but you can only get there with Tails (meaning you need Sonic 3 locked on).

So you could bounce-jump and breath underwater.

OP is saying there were no underwater seconds in Sonic and Knuckles. They were all in the Sonic 3 half of the game.

anon, sonic and knuckles has no underwater segments.

        For bounce jumping then.

unless you're tails or knuckles. so they must've added it in there because it can deflect projectiles the fire and lightning shield can't. right? am i wrong?

Lightning double jump is more useful and lets you attract rings as well.

Is it only the Water Shield that deflects bullets? I thought they all did.

did a little research and i think they all deflect "weak projectiles".

JUST GOES TO SHOW SONIC WAS NEVER GOOD

              >did a little research and i think they all deflect "weak projectiles".
Needed for the people used to Mario and Kirby tier games, they need to focus all their energy on avoiding spike pits and surprise enemies because the game moves too fast for them

All of the shields in Sonic 3 are kinda useless. Protecting your rings means practically nothing, since there is no requirement to enter special stages this time.

              >Protecting your rings means practically nothing
Aside from you know, building up lives. If I had a gold ring for everytime someone didn't bother to collect rings and got a game over and b***hed I'd have a lot of extra lives myself

Though to be fair the save feature does help with this as well but neglecting rings is yet another common "your own fault" problem when you see babies b***h about not beating Sonic

Consider this.......they made it a weaker powerup on purpose so the game would be harder.
            >why are shields in S2 they could have made 10000 invincibility powerups instead

But it's useful, just not in any way that applies to the game it appears in.

Any shield in any game protects your rings if you get hit once?? It's useful?

for its special ability, and because S&K had its levels re-arranged mid development, and because of that all the water levels got shifted into the first half of the game.

Even if you shuffled Flying Battery into Sonic 3 between Carnival Night and IceCap like was intended that would just add one water-less level to Sonic 3 (which otherwise only has Marble Garden). Everything past Launch Base still doesn't have any water.

yes, but now post launch base is just 1/3rd of the game, not an entire half of it.

because its basically just the regular classic bubble from the first games. having extra properties sometimes was just a neat bonus. electric and fire shield were objectively better.

It makes the barrel challenge in Carnival Zone a LOT easier since you have to jump on it so much to get it low enough to progress. Honestly if I don't get there with the water bubble I just restart the level.

are you too moronic to press and hold up and down?

      1. You're doing it wrong.

      2. That's a Sonic 3 level, there's water in Carnival Night (at least with Sonic -- not with Knuckles).

No water negating its main function. All Sonic can do is bounce with it, which isn't particularly practical.

    >Making game
    >Split it into two in the middle
    >Decide that you have better things to do than arbitrarily remove a shield that has less use than in the first half (or maybe leave it in because bouncing is fun or something).

You can also use the bounce ability, it doesn't just protect from water

  15. 6 months ago

You can still bounce with it, even if there's no water in the 2nd half.

Because it's less desired than the fire and electric shield and has almost no purpose compared to them. When you get the bubble shield, just think of it as getting a "normal" shield.

Normal shield doesn't let you bounce
