>Saw it on my local Target for 10 bux on clearance
First time I felt sorry for a video game.
B team were making it while the A team where taking a vacation.
I didn't even finish it. U right shit ain't even mid shits trash. Soul hackers 2? More like soul hackers MID
so it is mid?
Soul Hackers in name only and it's the same team as TMS.
TMS was more fun though, the combat system itself was pure SMT so why didn't they just keep it or expand on it?
not enough lewd scenes of Ringo
It was a prime example of a game that it was sent out to die
It was below average. The game felt like a low budget Vita game.
bruh vita was mid this shit ain't even that
>Mid
Get out of here child
SH1 was organic vaporwave that inspired the aesthetic 20 years later. 2 is a pastiche of that trend.
Atlus have yet to realize people only care about Persona
I'm an EO fan. I don't like Persona.
You, me, and the other 3 guys aren't enough to make the series profitable.
"Lets take a game based on 80s cyberpunk with a sprinkle of SMT occultism and make a sequel that has nothing to do with it."
Actually the school system has turned me off Persona since 3. I prefer mainline SMT.
Zoomers only care about Persona because they’re all lame bisexual little boys, mainline is way more sick, way better style and the music wrecks Persona. Persona is for little kids and lame late-bloomers, mainline is for edgy teens and it’s sick.
They're both for zoomers.
SMT Nocturne is the quintessential edgy zoomer experience.
Is it actually worth playing?
Might as well play Tokyo Mirage if you want to get the full experience from this team.
I played this shit on Gamepass and it's probably the most boring MegaTen game I've played so far.
I don't mind the jank and everything but the main issue is the main combat mechanic, that Sabbath shit. Basically it's kinda like a reverse Persona AOA. Every time you hit a weakness you get a stack, and at the end of the turn, those get resolved in an animation where all of your demons attack the enemies. It looks cool and all but the problem is that the damage is more or less just a bonus and it happens EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TURN. And it doesn't feel like it adds any sort of tactical depth. Like, Press Turn has the whole half turn management thing. Persona's One More wants you to hit every enemy with its weakness to quickly eliminate them. 3 and 4 also had the whole thing where you hit them again and they go dizzy giving you some breathing room. In SH2 the most depth you will get is "how do I spread around my damage so the Sabbath doesn't just do overkill damage". Maybe it opens up a bit later on but 15 hours in it was still a fucking bore.
And that is just purely regarding combat. There's like one music track for all the dungeons, it's all shipping yards and metros, "personal" dungeons are just a more boring final zone from IVA AND THEY ALL LOOK THE FUCKING SAME, dungeons are basically just empty mazes with no puzzles.
I could live with the jank but dear god there is nothing that stands out here. I played both Caligula games recently. They're also jank but at least they have some really fucking catchy music, the second one even more so, and the combat seems like a neat idea (but still needs refinement).
Also, I should probably say "low budget feeling" rather thank "jank", because the game actually doesn't feel like that outside a bit of menu navigation.
Caligula 2 music are god-tier
Caligula 1 is way more soulful though
play the first one instead
It's not even worth pirating, just like that fire emblem x SMT crossover on the WiiU.
Can it even be pirated? I thought it had Denuvo and it was never cracked.
You can play it on ps4 through piracy
I thought it was above average for a modern Megaten
>I thought it was above average for a modern Megaten
How? The only games to compare it to are P5 and SMTV, maybe IV/IVA depending on your definition of modern. I would take any of those games over SH2.
It wasn't made by TMS team it was made by contractors they brought in IIRC. That's why it's so cheap.
>the girls are hot
>the guys look like that dorito-face senpai meme
what is this art, man
That's Shirou Miwa's stuff in a nutshell.
Kek I forgot I own this game, can I play it without playing the first? I havent touched my PS5 in close to a year
It's not connected to SH1 at all outside of a couple of returning characters.
hopefully miwa was thrown into a volcano after this abortion
pikazo next
It feels like those Digimon games on the PS4 that were actually made for Vita, it's like you're playing something cheap as another anon said.
But, creatively cheap would be the appropriate word, I'm sure even with a low budget they could have taken better decisions to make it fun.
It's better to just pick up your 3ds and play Soul Hackers there, can't believe I was hyped about a sequel to my favorite entry and they do this shit. SH1 is one of the most atmospheric games ever
Cyber Sluts had a considered art stye and didn't look like the piece of Unity filth that SH2 is.
not like this megatenbros, this can't be the last game we get on the PS4
should have come out on the switch. i bought the game on xbox at launch but im barely in the ozaka towers dungeon. im like level 30. as much as i like the characters, this megaten game is taking me the longest to play simply because i just dont feel like playing it.
also i love ringo
I fapped to her a lot
I havent even played her game.
Is this a scene from the game, or is this just fanporn?
I love Ringo too!!
This apple girl is so cute.
Japanese game
It really just helped expose how shallow the megaten/persona combat system is. The combat in these games truly is just a matter of matching shapes and colors. There is almost never a reason not to just hit an enemy's weakness. This is one step more advanced than final fantasy turn based combat, where the enemies are so non lethal aht the games can practically be played through without ever needing to think critically in combat at all. This game really wasn't any worse than any other 3d megaten. But it was so bland and easy it made persona games look good.
On the contrary, it revealed how fucking brilliant press turn and one more are that just haphazardly trying to copy it to fit something else without understanding just bogs the whole thing down.
It doesn't matter whether you get an extra turn or you do a group attack, or you get to pass your turn to someone else, there's ultimately no reason not to fit the circle piece into the circle shaped hole in these games. It is always the optimal move. The only one that I've played with some strategy involved with weaknesses was strange journey, where you might not decide to use your best demons stat-wise as a trade off for using demons of all the same alignment.
git gud shitter
>get gud
Devil Survivor has the best combat. While obviously you want to hit the elemental weakness of the enemy, battles are a group of different demons and you can still get royally fucked because there's too many combinations
Devil survivor is a strategy game, it's a different beast from four bros in a row entirely. Srpgs are basically better than jrpgs on principle
Etrian odyssey games mog the shit out of any megaten/persona games, and are great examples of how great turn based "4 in a row" style jrpgs can be.
Etrian odyssey is five bros in two rows and isn't as combat focused as smt.
They're even more so combat focused than the smt games. There's almost no story at all in EO games, they're just pure exploration and combat. Having two rows adds to the complexity of the combat for sure but I would still argue it belongs in the category of "X characters in a row" style jrpgs.
The combat is mostly resource management and not actually figuring out how to beat the enemies, you just use your strongest attacks like in any braindead jrpg. The challenge comes from figuring out how to win while expending as little tp and items as possible so you can extend your dungeon dive. It's just an extension of the exploration. Bosses are obviously the exception but there are like 10 in each game.
What you just described is a combat centric rpg. Everything you say also applies to SMT combat, except that in EO there is much more nuance in party composition, combos, weaknesses and debuffs, on top of enemies generally just being more lethal.
While I pretty much agree with you in terms of the combat, most SMT games challenge isn't about playing inside of the actual fight, but rather the diligence of the team building. The battle begins before you show up for combat. Either through making a well balanced team with few weaknesses that can deal with as much as possible, or constructing a specialized team for mowing down that area/boss.
That being said, SMT sucks at that too and you're better off with Pokémon for that.
Ringo was the only good thing about the game
Remember when this game was touted as a great game solely because it wasn't on Nintendo consoles?
Why release a sequel when you know most people haven't played the first?
Actually, isn't Soul Hackers one of the most beloved SMT games? I know a lot of people played it on the 3ds as their first SMT.
Sure, it wasn't P5 levels but, i mean, waht fucking JRPG is on P5 tier? Regardless, SH1 had quite the cult following.
Ok, but how many people played it? How many more looked at the title on steam and skipped over it because they haven't played the first one?
Nemissa is the ultimate waifu, literally female Danny Phantom
>Actually, isn't Soul Hackers one of the most beloved SMT games?
God I genuinely hope not. Soul Hackers was absolute garbage, but unique. The reason that 2 sucks is that it's no longer unique. That just leaves the garbage.
The saddest thing about this game is it's still the only megaten game that I've actually somewhat enjoyed in almost ten years. Good lord what happened to this franchise?
Atlus is a gang of lazy bastards, some of the big names among them having left, and the shots are called by SEGA, perhaps the biggest retards in the business.
Game felt like a scam, or maybe more that they were testing the market outside of the Switch and specifically on Xbox. Didn’t feel even close to a full game, felt more like an SMT rip-off.
Just beat the game on very hard, liked it way more than I thought I would.
Best combat and boss mechanics in the series, better than SMT/Persona
The bosses have actual strategy, like building up stacks based on hitting adds weaknesses, changing weaknesses, and the DLC superboss gimmick of needing to take demons with specific weaknesses
It's not just "pick 4 characters with fire moves and blast the boss".
No one cares for your shitty attempt at shilling, your whole post reeks of disingenuous coping.
I just really loved the game.
I went in not liking the art style and thinking it was budget Persona, and came out loving the character customization and combat more than SMT V or Persona 5.
The game already failed and is the biggest flop Atlus has had in the past 20 years, you're not going to get paid anymore.
for me it was the gutted demon negotiation and the SMTIV tier dungeons
though i can't bring myself to hate it since the boss battles were good
hard was a little too easy and not being able to use items in very hard is super gay so i gave up on that after beating kaburagi
story and characters were decent i guess
i'm glad i got the true ending on my first try because i really don't feel like replaying it ever
What the fuck is 'mid'? What is this zoomer moron babble? The game sucks balls cause it's an ill conceived 'sequel' to a 20 year old saturn game. That's why it fucking blows, you shit for brains moron.
>Ringo doesn't shut the fuck up
>first boss she says "Take the L"
>all the party members are souless
>Ringo still talking about useless shit
Look, I am starting to thing that I'm misogynist now after playing this game.
Well the main problem with this game was the part where your mother is a fat whore, OP
zero variety, re-used the same 3 dungeon tilesets over and over, half the dialogue is dogshit at least in en, soul dungeons are literally empty voids, isn't soul hackers at all cause soul hackers was pretty good. combat is at least decent though
>Made with Unity
Atlus couldn't even be fucked paying to remove the fucking watermark. Would it kill these companies to not induce buyer's remorse the nanosecond I boot up the game? Thought I'd still give the game a chance and I actually like the characters but fuck me the graphics and artstyle are putrid Unity shit where even the demons look like smooth, undefined arse.
No fanservice
it sucks
