Miranda's the only squadmate with plot armor. She can lead the second team and survive, even if she's disloyal. She can only be killed in the last segment.
Is Jacob the most boring Mass Effect character? Kaiden is dull but at least he has something to do in ME1 (die). The muscly Mexican in 3 has some pep too. Jacob has literally nothing. I don't even see why he's in the game apart from just filling a space before you recruit Mordin.
Yeah he's set up to be just a regular dude in a series full of memorable party members with complex and interesting backstories like Mordin and Wrex. Even when you try to get to know Jacob he usually deflects like EA is telling you to play the phone game if you really care enough about this guy to want to know him.
I don't care what people say, ME2 was my favorite purely as a game in the entire series. Yeah, 1 had the best overall story, but 2 felt the best in terms of actual gameplay, characters, and mission progression. Also Dickhead Renegade Shep is best in ME2.

Suicide mission is weird, I got Zaeed killed, despite him being supposed to be from the stronger ones

I dont think be made the suggestion in my pkaythrough, i sent katsumi anyway. Actually, i dont remember him AT ALL in the suicide mission
