      >1. they did
Not; name one (1) fricking example—no, name several (many), actually. Bet you can't, loser. And I'll pre-empt you on one of them, at least: "muh Squall doesn't rly say whatever hurrr durr" uh homie, that's one of the things the localization team nailed right out of the park. In the original, Squall truly was ellipsis man and was even more autismo. The localization bros knew what they were doing and made him even better.

      >2. budget
...was bigger than any title before, save for 7's moronic superfluous marketing budget. But in terms of overall budget for the ACTUAL game? Yeah, no; FF8 was given top priority. And it shows: beautiful FMVs, beautiful graphics (at the time) and beautiful characters, both male and female, with minimal fanservice. It's a true love story that actually takes itself fairly seriously with just the right amount of silliness.

Also, it shits on trannies, lol. There's a literal gay in Dollet that Squall can make fun of. It's pretty sweet.

Also, best music in the series and actually has a couple that gets together, undeniably, unlike 9's bullshit or 7's pseudo-dating sim mechanics. And say what you want about Rinoa, you're probably just a virgin. IRL, she'd be quite a fricking catch, but I think she makes a perfect match with Squall.

go grind out more trophies on FF7R, zoom-zoom. Then fap to jessie webms because we both know that's what you do.

No localization is bad as long as you pretend that bad localization is good.

You should have deleted this image after autizmo-anon pointed out these were 2 different dialogue paths and not a difference in localization.

They aren't two different dialogue paths though. You were lied to.

Localization was the biggest headache in all of this. It would take up to a year (sometimes longer) to get a game once it's released in its native region. I think Xenosaga took two years to get localized and released, and Star Ocean 3 took 3 years.

She's the equivalent of a rich girl out on the streets playing ANTIFA because it's dirty and pisses off her family.

SO3 took a year and a half, some of which was due to them having to switch over to the new version of the game (Director's Cut) released in Japan due to how completely broken the original release was.

FF8 is my favorite in the series but every time I go through a thread on this fricking board, I like it less. A game I've ran through at least 10 times. Schizo anon and whatever the frick is. Jesus Christ. Localization was obviously as issue, along with the script in inception - there's so much cut content it seemed like separate regions were left to fill in gaps with whatever they intoned.

German and French translations lean into the R=U romantic angle. Squalls' 'Whatever...'s. IIRC Irvine and Quistis have more authority in their lines through the Jap version vs. US, shit like that. The game has its flaws and to pretend it doesn't feels like purposeful troll parody.

          >IIRC Irvine and Quistis have more authority in their lines
Not at all, Irvine is a complete goof in Japanese. Even when he puts on a serious face, he'll find a way to make it turn lighthearted in the end.
I don't really remember how Quistis talks because Quistis is a completely insignificant non-character in any language.

Quistis makes me cum buckets, tho.

I'm a fan of 8 and I'm not localisation autist but even I know of the "whatever..." debacle.
So my conclusion is you're a moron.

FF8 and FF9 have translations that change crucial parts of the dialogue but read well so most people don't notice
FF7's translation doesn't have any rewrites but has typos and some confusing ESL phrasing like "Sephiroth Clones" but is closer to the original game than the latter two games
At least none of them got completely fricked over in translation like the 13 series did

Hmmm... they finally had budget and some form of relevance in the market? I guess they could afford a proper localization, and with FF7's success, they were the hot topic at the time. Also, absolutely love FFVIII, truly unique game.

9 had an even better localization. 9's characters were fully realized by the dialogue, the story was mostly comprehensible, and all the jokes were funny

Because Kuja does by killing everyone and everything on Terra.

Then play it in Japanese. You can't spell translation without trans.

I guess you could hire a slave to read to you and translate in real time, you're still just getting an interpretation though. Weird kink, I won't judge

Plenty of games already have fan translations. I'd be happy to throw money towards a Patreon like that if they want to be compensated, is my point.

              Anonymous

That only flies if your goal is specifically to avoid political correctness (and even then it's not 100% with fan translations). If your goal is overall accuracy you're certainly not going to get a better experience on average with fan translations.

Oh then too bad, guess I'll just have to read these threads to find out how the games were supposed to be translated.

What I'm NOT going to do is waste hundreds of hours studying asiaticrunes kek. No wonder so many of you homies are broke lol.
